Ingers signs on at VXR/Driver support Deal signed.

Not 48 hours after it was announced that Gary Spencer would move to Snake Motorsports on a one year loan deal Christel VXR boss Chris Copeman has announced what he called "the next phase" of the teams off-season development. AMR Boss Stuart Ingers and Chris Copeman stood side-by-side as it was announced that Ingers would test for Christel VXR in season 8. However as Copeman pointed out; The deal doesn't end there, "This is part of a mutually beneficial arrangement between Christel and AMR." beamed Copeman. "We knew that if we were to let Gary and Connor go then we would need backup and this deal provides us with just that. Stuart will test for us and bring his wealth of experience, and in the very unlikely case that we find ourselves short of race drivers he has agreed for the AMR test drivers to step in and take a temporary seat." Copeman went onto say how excited he was about season 8 and the potential that the teams new car could have, "we've seen some models and run some numbers and it looks good at the moment. Of course, any team will tell you that but it is important for us to hit the ground running in season 8. I want to avoid S7 being a one-hit-wonder."

Stuart Ingers spoke briefly at the press conference as well and added, "I'm really excited about joining the Christel test team and I really hope I can help move this promising youg team even further forward. As part of my test deal, our teams have also entered into a driver partnership. Aston Martin's test drivers will also act as reserves for Christel's race team as well as AMR's. They will still remain AMR drivers even if this does happen however.

I want to thank Chris and the rest of the Christel team for this fantastic opportunity"

Chris Copeman concluded the press conference by saying that this confirmed he would not be returning to the cockpit in the near future, and that the team were still in the hunt for another test driver, although he did concede that this deal gave the team the time to find the right candidate for the position.

GPGSL Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Support Race

Welcome everyone to Yas Marina and the end of season non-championship racing weekend.
The team owners have made their driver choices, so we have a really mixed up grid for the support race.

Minardi team owner Ricardo van Smirren is on pole in the MPR.

And we are off!

Brunner gets a good start and passes four cars right from the off.

Its looking a bit crowded in the midfield.

Van Smirren has got his skates on up front.

Nell runs into Rodríguez.

Rodríguez drops to 11th and is danger of losing that place too.

Van Smirren still leads as he nears the end of lap 1.

Mal Stoddart in the TNR is under pressure from Gareth McCarthy in the second MPR.

Standings after lap 1.

Both TNR's defend from cars close behind.

Rodríguez now has to defend from Scala.

Van Smirren takes fastest lap at the end of lap 2.

Only to be beaten by Nell in the Christel a few moments later.

Pellatt with de Boer close behind.

Van Smirren takes fastest lap once again.

Pellatt getting defensive.

Van Smirren still leading and still pulling away.

Nell is making fantastic progress, here he passes Mills for 8th.

Brunner locks up.

Must be catching in the AMR team as Pellatt follows suit.

Into lap 6 and van Smirren is stretching out quite a sizeable lead.

Rodríguez loses another spot as Ingers overtakes.

Hinz also takes the Uruguayan.

15 laps to go.

Van Renselaar passes Rodríguez for 17th.

Carlos is really having a bad race, here he is challenged by Brunner.

Silvestre makes a mistake in the MAC.

The pit stops begin.

The race is for 2nd place, as van Smirren disappears up front.

Talk of the devil, the leader pits.

Van Renselaar locks up.

Van Smirren rejoins in 13th, but is being held up by Rodríguez.

Copeman 3rd and Pellatt 4th.

Van Renselaar flat spots his tyres yet again.

Worseling now in 2nd in the TSS.

Stoddart in 1st, yet to pit.

The Aussie gets the call to box.

Worseling also in.

10 laps to go.

Two Minardis, two MACs and two Snakes.

Stoddart passes Somogyi.

A problem must have befallen Copeman as he is suddenly in 21st.

Silvestre outbrakes himself.

Brunner moves up to 15th.

Pellatt challenges for 5th.

McCarthy has also had some difficulty, he has dropped from 3rd to 14th.

Stoddart has now stopped the gap growing, but can he catch the leader in the 6 laps remaining? Doubtful!

A rare occurance of Rodríguez passing someone.

Scala and Ingers now past Silvestre.

5 laps to go.

Scala is overtaken by Ingers.

McCarthy takes Gilson.

Gilson now under pressure from Brunner.

Still hectic in the midfield even this late on in the race.

Brunner now in front of Gilson as van Renselaar also takes the TSS.

Pellatt still trying to take 5th from de Boer.

Stoddart has got the gap to van Smirren down to 5.5 seconds, but it must be too late to challenge for the win.

Still busy.

Silvestre still testing the limits of his tyres grip.

Last lap.

Van Smirren wins the Abu Dhabi support race.

Stoddart 2nd.

Worseling 3rd.

Nell 4th.

Pellatt 5th.

Result screen to follow.

Mal's pace is encouraging for Ross and myself in the next race...I really hope I can do well.

Waiting for official results to comment, but given my last race results this should be good wherever I finished.

When I was reading, I was like "WOOT, what the hell am I overtaking". Then "Why am I 12th suddenly". Right now my only problem is that this was a non-championship race ^^
9th is good,considering my qualify :-)

My GPGSL Career
Too bad I couldn't hold on to 5th - still 6th is great for me personally! The Minardi was pretty good ;) ;)

For Snake Motorsport, not too bad actually - front midfield!

From a Demon Racing perspective, very pleased to see Sebastian Nell have a fantastic 4th place. Not overly excited about Somogyi and his 21st place finish though....??!! lol

A double points finish for MAC is fantastic. Shows that the car has potential in the right hands.

For me personally, not a great race.

Last, 12 seconds adrift. What was i doing, having a tea party?? Absolute waste of time, not totally sure why i bothered turning up. Was a chance to showcase what i could do, but really screwed that up!

What a disappointment to drop from a podium to the back of the field, but pleasing to make a few spots back up. The MPR certainly has the pace which is very encouraging for the coming season proper. Bring on the main race!
