GPGSL S6, R11 - PiranemaHello and welcome from a bright and Sunny Piranema circuit here in Brazil for live coverage of the test session that will preceed this weekends race. As the teams and drivers move to Piranema all three championships are hotly contested. Indeed after finishing first last time out TSS' Somogyi takes a three point lead into this event and will be hoping to outpace AMR's Ingers. Anyway, without further ado, guest race director Chris Copeman has declared the track green for testing and the session is underway.
Nathan Mcgregor of MAC Racing is first out...and duly sets the fastest lap...
DeBoer is close...but not close enough
Its the same story for Davies...Tafuro and Thomas
Mills goes 4th
The ART cars lineup 4th and 5ht provisionally
Gilson is 7th
And Edwards just goes 2nd...ohhh...that is close
Unfortunately Connor Steer doesnt trouble the front runners...
And his testing teammate Van Smirren confirms Christel VXR's lack of pace here...
Legge puts the other Tafuro car inside the top 10...
And Kederer immediately deposes him...
Hunsley continues his fine testing form for VSM...he pops up 3rd
The championship leader goes 2nd! That could prove crucial in the championship fight!
The Snake cars are up next and Stokel appears to have the legs on his teammate
Although she has moved up to a race seat the Pink Stig still turns out in free practice too...
Mr Paddock slots in in 6th.
Here's a brief glimpse of the field as Mcgregor goes for a second timed lap...
And ACES IT...1st positon for the MAC Racing team boss.
With the next few drivers failing to improve Paulo Tafuro is the next to climb...albeit only up to 11th...
He is followed by Thomas who improves to 5th..
VanSmirren manages to work his way up to 18th...but it will be little reward...
Legge is still flirting with the idea of top 10 finish...
Kederer has more than that in his sights!!! A Great lap puts him 2nd!!
Stokel now into 10th...
With the first runs complete here is how the field has shaken out...
Fastest man Mcgregor starts the next batch of runs...but runs into traffic at the start of his flying lap...which hampers his efforts somewhat...
With track conditions now quite busy few drivers are managing to find the space to improve their lap time...Thomas has managed it though...and too good effect
AS HAS INGERS!!! 3RD!!! How he needed that...
Worseling improves to 12th
Gilson, up to 14th, and VanSmirren(18th) follow suit...
WHATS THIS?! Van Renselaar has thrown the preverbial cat amongst the pigeons! 1st PLACE!!!
Davies joins in reshaping the top half of the field.
As does Stokel...who it has to be said, is looking very quick here...
The same cannot be said for Chris Copeman
Ingers then joins his AMR teammate and goes 3rd as well...
Mills pops up to 13th...unlucky for some...
Van Smirren up another place..
Van Renselaar is really on fire here...not content with being 1st...HE BETTERS HIS TIME!!!
And then from nowhere Dan Paddock joins the ART driver on the front row...
Half the session gone...here are the standings...
Tafuro pops into 3rd place.
AND QUITE AMAZINGLY VAN RENSELAAR IMPROVES AGAIN...He looks untouchable here this afternoon...
Gilson improves his earlier time to go 7th
With an amazing lap Connor Steer has gone from plum last to 9th...he found a clear track and hooked everything up brilliantly...
Tafuro's not doing too badly either...
Ingers is now back into 4th
And just to underline his superiority here today Van Renselaar takes another chunk out of his own benchmark...truly spectacular...he has improved on pretty much everylap..
Gilson has been going about his work quietly this afternoon but has now crept up to 5th...
Here's how the field looks with 8minutes, and surely only one more run left each...
The next runs have begun and Connor Steer has managed to improve his time slightly...further cementing his 9th place...
Kederer goes into 2nd...but still someway off Van Renselaar...
In an attempt to salvage what has so far proved a dire weekend for him Chris Copeman goes 12th...
Mcgregor might have felt he could have done more today, but 7th it is at the moment
With very few people managing to improve their times DeBoer and Mills do their bit to shake up the order...
So here are the final results. Well done to Stefan Van Renselaar for a truly dominant win here today. Ingers finishes 5th, and crucially ahead of Somogyi to keep things nicely interesting....
Thats all from Piranema for now. Join us later in the week for live coverage of the Qualifying session.
