Very nice job by Alex, putting our car on the front row, which means that we have a good change of scoring points. Charrel is also in a good position to get a few points, so bring on the race ;)

John Maverick spoke to german tv station RTL directly after the qualifying

Reporter: Hello John. Time for a few questions?
JM: Sure. Go ahead!

Reporter: In general, what do you say to this qualifying?
JM: Well, unfortunately we weren't able to improve the car, so that - in the end - we have one solid and one horrible result.

Reporter: I suppose you mean 19th place of Adam Davies?
JM: Yes exactly. Nick was able to get - at least - one solid round and took 5th place. That's not what the team was hoping for, but it's a good position to attack for a podium. Adam wasn't able to get this one quick round and so he ended in 19th. But that's definitely not was he is able to show.

Reporter: The drivers are very very close to each other here in Melbourne. What can you say to that?
JM: Yes, that's really fascinating. The first and the last driver are only 8 tenth away of each other. I would have expected that being a bit more. Nevertheless all teams seem to have done a real good job to get very solid cars on the grid.

Reporter: There are also some teams in positions which couldn't have been expected there before.
JM: Absolutely. Alpha shows that they've done an incredible job. I supposed them to be strong, but not that strong. SCR is doing great as well. Not to forget BFM - who have a nice car by the way - and SMS. The latter is a real surprise in my opinion. To be able to show such performance without any data from former races proves big quality in the team management.

Reporter: Your expectations for the race and the next races
JM: I'm sure that Nick might be able to get a podium, and if something happens in front of him even more. For Adam it'll become hard to get some points. It's his first race in his young career, he'll improve definitely during the season. I'm looking forward to next weeks FP-driver event. I hope we'll improve soon and then will be able to fight for wins.

If it is oil or any other nasty substance, you can get a penalty.

Ah ha. Just installed the track pack and overlays for the tv, and CSM hits me with this error. Anyone know if its a common one? 1995 trackpack works, I am sure it is the GPGSL trackpack...

CSM and TSM always give me errors...

Unfortunate the contact by my 2 drivers, happily they were experienced enough to keep the cars undamaged so we could continue. 8th and 15th is very good to start with, we have said we would be right there from round one, and we are! ;-) Good chance to score the first points for the SMS team, goal for the race will be to get both of them in the top10!

If you are racing, keep on racing and get some points!

Yep, confirmed it is definitely the GPGSL trackpack causing grief.

Can anyone on the directors board please check the latest one out and tell me if there are errors?

Very nice qualy from Alexandre! This could very well be a podium for the team!
For my first race this season, my goal is a points finish..

My GPGSL Career
I loaded Petit Sarthe without errors from the trackpack. Does it crash?

Terrible qualifying session to start the season. 15th and 7 places down on my teammate is simply unacceptable. hopefully an improvement will come in the race - I'll keep my hopes high, as race pace should be better.
GPGSL Round 1 Australian Grand Prix

Here we are for the main event, the season opener at the Albert Park track in sunny downtown Melbourne.
The weather radar predicts rain towards the end of the race, but it just might hold off for a dry race.
Jethro Walters is on pole, but there's 39 laps and anything could happen, and it usually does.
The GPGTV console has been repaired overnight, the RD has a fresh cup of tea and a plate of doughnuts at the ready!

One light, two lights, three lights, four lights, five lights....

It's GO GO GO GO GO in Melbourne!

It's a clean start, and Walters jinks right to block Santilal, Horvath sees an opening and dives up the inside on the way into turn one!

Horvath sprints into the lead with clean air ahead, and Koemmerer has got past Walters as well.

Koemmerer in second place.

Timing after one lap.

Santilal in fifth place.

Cartwright tangles with Grant!

The lucky SCR driver escapes unscathed!

Not so lucky for Grant, the first DNF due to an accident for Season 5.

Davies and Santilal.

Houston down in eighteenth.

Cartwright now running last. The medical centre has cleared Keeley Grant, she's ok after that terrific shunt. Keeley is already in the Paddock Bar working on getting seriously drunk!

Norbert Horvath still at the pointy end of the race.

Onboard with Vilela, as van Dijck puts in a fastest lap.

Karjalainen in sixth goes quicker!

The lap times are tumbling as the track grip improves.

Santilal up into third place.

A look at the times after twelve laps.

Aleksander first to pit.

Race leader into the pits.

And back out in front.

Karjalainen in third.

Woops! That's not good!

Two laps to go!

We have a winner! Norbert Horvath TNR wins the Australian Grand Prix!

That endeth the coverage for Round 1. Stay tuned for the official results from the GPGSlL
