I fixed the tarmac problem by doing what Ruboy (I think it was Ruboy) said on page 2 or 3.
Exporting data as .3ds then removing everything but the track tarmac, exporting as gp4 and then importing that into a1ring2001.gp4 in scene 4.
It's a little bit worrying no one has mentioned this but I guess I will..
Firstly I realise this is a beta but this doesn't seem to be something that can be fixed overnight, unlike textures or other things.
What I am talking about is elevations. The grandstands look lovely but some elevations are a bit of a concern. On a few of the corners it all seems a bit flat and others seems just wrong. The layout itself is flawless. But the elevation changes make it not feel so much like Bahrain.
Namely.. Turn 10.. which is a steep DOWNhill corner not uphill. As you hit the apex the car should almost bottom out as the car meets the lower flat part that leads onto the straight. It gradually steepens from turn 9 and gets quite steep right at the end as you turn in. You might notice on TV during the practices that alot of drivers lockup there. It's one of the hardest braking zones in F1.
There are also some bumps which seem exaggerated. I don't mind this, it's just unusual since other default tracks don't have these. I actually like the bumps but maybe a tiny bit less exaggerated so that driving this track doesn't feel so much different from driving the others.
Turn 12 and 13 seem pretty good elevation wise, a good job was done there. If I am going to criticise I at least have to pay respect where it is due.
If the authors haven't seen these, Allianz race previews for Williams showcase the tracks pretty well. Here is a link to the Bahrain one.

I know it's a beta the only reason I mention these things is that they seem hard to fix and it seems like this could be the finished version for elevations. If it's not and they will get a reworking after new footage from the 2006 race.. forgive me and ignore everything I have said.
I have to say though, that you can see all the work that has gone into it and it's an amazing job so far. The attenion to detail in the modelling is very good. I think we all appreciate that a beta was released early for us all to use. Thank you for that, and remember my comments are only trying to make the track better.
Cheers
