GPGSL Rd14 Monaco GP - Race Day

Part 2

We are back.

Onboard with Scala, and he has hit the wall!

Scala is still on the raceline, which means everyone behind must move to avoid his car, while at the same time avoiding the torn off wheel.

Scala finally brings his car to a stop, and is out of the race from 2nd place. VSM must now put their faith in Chris Warrington to bring home a good result.

Edwards goes by as Scala's VSM is pushed out of the way.

Gilson down in 15th as he heads through the tunnel.

MAC's Gianluigi Silvestre heads out of the chicane past a few yachts.

Ross Cartwright heads the train of cars.

Jalving in his MPR down in 13th. For the championship battle, this is not where he would want to be.

Zsigmond Somogyi in his Demon is ahead of Jalving, and the MAC and SCR behind are ready to pounce should the opportunity presents itself.

Warrington sets another fastest lap.

Only to lose it as Maverick sets the fastest lap.

Horvath still leading 8 laps into the race.

The gap back to Warrington in 2nd.

Pedersen ahead of Kederer.

The view from behind Pedersen's Christel.

Van Renselaar in 4th, but has Greenhalgh and Greidanus behind him.

Onboard with Stefen, as the gap shows that Maverick is over 4 seconds ahead.

Elleker looks close enough to Hinz to have a attempt at passing.

But decides it's not worth making a risky move and stays behind Hinz.

Onboard with Maverick.

The top 3 are in a class of their own.

Legge in his Demon ahead of Cartwright in his SCR. Legge is currently in 7th.

Closeup of Van Renselaar's ONE as he continues to stay ahead of Greenhalgh's AMR.

Cartwright locks up his brakes.

And he has managed to keep the car going.

Carlos Rodriguez in his ONE sits in 9th, and is 1.5s ahead of Pedersen's Christel.

Onboard with Pedersen, as we check out the current positions.

There's a TNR that has hit the wall, and it appears to be Owen Edwards.

It is Edwards, and he has gone into the wall the same way that Scala had.

And it results in a retirement.

Gilson closing in on Silvestre through the Loews hairpin.

Closeup of Cartwright's SCR.

Legge in his Demon trying his best to catch up to the back of Greidanus's Shadow.

Snake's Dominic Brunner now sits in last place. This has been a miserable race so far for the Snake team.

Onboard with Maverick, and the split shows he is 6 seconds clear of Van Renselaar.

But it is still the TNR of Horvath that leads.

Pedersen holding down a top 10 position.

Onboard with Horvath as we check out the current standings.

We must take another short break. Don't go anywhere as we'll be back very soon.

GPGSL Rd14 Monaco GP - Race Day

Part 3

We are back once again.

Van Renselaar still holding back Greenhalgh as they head through the Loews hairpin.

Jalving still stuck behind Somogyi's Demon in 13th, but has a gap of over 1 second back to Silvestre.

The pitstop action has finally started as Horvath is the first of the front runners to make his stop.

As does Van Renselaar and Greenhalgh.

Jalving Pits as well.

Horvath down in 10th after taking his stop.

After taking his stop, Jalving is found near the rear of the field.

More pitstop action.

With Horvath having taken his stop, that leaves Warrington and Maverick in the top 2 placings.

Pedersen and Kederer still going at it.

Greenhalgh having a decent race so far.

Legge takes to the pits from 4th place.

And Kederer pits as well from 9th.

Somogyi holding off Jalving.

The race leader takes to the pits for his stop.

As does Maverick from 2nd.

Greidanus, having moved up to 2nd, now heads into the pits.

Cartwright heads into the pits for his stop.

Onboard with Jalving, and it seems the Demon made a small mistake as Jalving lines up his attempt to overtake.

But couldn't get close enough to make the pass work and stayed behind the Demon.

Pedersen currently in 2nd and ahead of Horvath.

As Pedersen enters the pitlane, Rodriguez is already in for his stop.

Hinz makes his stop as well.

Horvath has managed to retain the lead ahead of Warrington who has retained 2nd. Behind them, Maverick is stuck behind traffic.

Kederer shows that his car has pace as he takes the fastest lap.

Pedersen exits the pits, and Jalving goes past.

But being 15th will not help Jalving in the battle for the championship.

Onboard with Horvath, and it seems that Silvestre, Gilson and Hunsley still need to take their pitstop.

Warrington is really getting closer to Horvath.

The last 3 drivers finally head into pitlane for their stops.

No sign of 3rd place, as Horvath and Warrington push on.

Maverick has secured 3rd place, but has to set very fast laps to have a chance to battle for 2nd.

Cartwright, Rodriguez and Kederer holding down the final placings in the top 10.

Jalving now up to 12th.

Behind him are both Christels and a SCR.

On lap 21, and here are the current standings.

One final break to make before we crown our winner. Don't go anywhere.

Great job by Tobi to jump into the top ten. Now just gotta keep it clean and bring it home

Maverick team radio

Maverick: "What a crappy pitstop was that?
Engineer: "Sorry mate, we had a problem with one of the wheels. You're secure, but it took a second longer."

Maverick: "Okay, but that's it with 2nd. I'll concentrate on securing P3."
Engineer: "Copy, secure P3"

May as well retire the cars the way it's going.

Totally with you there, Dan. Let's cross fingers that this time it was boring enough to make people learn their lesson. However, the coverage is still great, considering it's Monaco.

I'll join the chorus on Monaco. I love racing there myself, as i know i can pass the AI cars, but... when it is AI vs AI, it is laughable. As a team owner, i had ZERO intention of using any team boost there, as it stands too much chance of just being wasted. Monaco certainly won't be getting my vote for S9.

Heading for a good result at Monaco.

People who were responsible for voting Monaco on the calendar should be chased down with burning sticks.

All aboard the Jolly Todger!

A little mid-race report just in that various extravagant Z-list celebrities have been spotted in their masses boarding HMS Jolly Todger (the Official TNR Monaco Boat).

Docked next to what is this years third annual 'Richard Branson Lookalike' contest boat party, the Virgin and TNR gents seem to be working together on something.

Lets hope its not a jinx! More later, as it seems a giant inflatable Mr Staypuft from Ghostbusters is rising from the starboard side and reporters are being ushered away frantically.

For our Aussie members of the GPGSL, just wanted to throw this "joke" out there....
Seems that the gpgtv.org coverage has been taken over by the Seven Network : commercial free pre race for 25 minutes, talking bullsh1t then as soon as the actual racing starts, ad break, ad break, ad break.....LOL
Did anyone watch the Townsville race yesterday???!!!! Terrible coverage, destroyed with commercials and missing key moments....

It was unwatchable. I gave up on it, no idea what was going on.

It's not necessary to be aussie. I had an online stream and thought the same. Additionally I had to put up with a strangely slow connection, so all in all, I got to watch many of your commercials LOL.

If you wanna know, many stuff there is waaay cheaper than here, starting with Internet Connection, heh.

Same. I flicked over to the footy, and fell asleep.... Seven have totally ruined the enjoyment of watching V8SC.... GPGtv.org is streets ahead in it's coverage! (H)

I don't have any problem with Seven's commentary, as long as you take it with a bit of humour it's quite funny to listen to and I find it quite enjoyable. Of course ad breaks are annoying but I didn't find the races hard to follow at all.

GPGSL Rd14 Monaco GP - Race Day

Part 4

This is it. Time to see how the final part of the race turns out.

Maverick is slowly starting to catch the cars in front as they can be seen in the distance.

Meanwhile, Warrington is getting closer to Horvath.

And it shows as Warrington is .6s behind.

Legge having a good race so far, and has the SCR of Cartwright behind him.

Meanwhile, his teammate is at the head of the queue, outside of the top 10.

Snake's Brunner has his work cut out having to hold back both MAC's.

Seems Legge could be struggling. He has allowed the SCR and ONE to close in on the back of his Demon.

Warrington still catching Horvath, but he may want to watch his mirrors soon as the split back to Maverick shows a 2 second difference.

Van Renselaar and Greenhalgh still racing each other.

Behind them, Greidanus in his Shadow is slowly catching up.

Maverick is on fire. He has finally gotten closer to Warrington, but still not close enough to mount a challenge for 2nd.

Seems whatever the problem Legge may have had before is no longer a problem, as he is now pulling away from Cartwright.

Kederer has 3.8s back to Somogyi, so his 10th is all but secured.

At the rear, Brunner still heads the MAC's.

Maverick is getting much closer to the back of Warrington.

Here are the standings as of lap 26.

Maverick heads pass a few yachts as he continues to reel in the VSM.

Elleker in his Christel is ahead of Gilson in his SCR.

Onboard with Maverick, and he has clean air behind him as the ONE of Van Renselaar is over 6 seconds behind.

There's trouble with one of the cars. Smoke or water is pouring out the back.

And it's Kederer! Kederer's Shadow has suffered what looks like a Water Leak. This is not good for the Shadow driver who was looking set to secure 10th.

Somogyi goes past in his Demon to make it two Demons in the top 10.

As Kederer pulls off to the side, Jalving goes past and now leads a line of cars. He must have got held up by the Shadow.

Kederer is now out of the race with a broken front wing, and a broken car.

With Kederer's retirement, here is the standings as they stand.

And how the top 10 drivers have moved since the start of the race.

Somogyi in 10th has a 2 second advantage over Jalving.

The view looking from the rear of Elleker's Christel shows how close Gilson is to the rear.

9th place Rodriguez having a quiet race as there is no sign of 10th place Somogyi.

The MAC's are slowly catching up to the back of Brunner's Snake.

Standings on lap 30. Getting closer to the finish.

While the top 3 battle, another battle goes on behind for 4th to 6th.

And even further back, a battle for 7th to 9th is taking place.

Maverick is still pushing his AMR as he tries to get close enough to Warrington's VSM.

Hardly anything in it as the battle for the podium continues.

Somogyi heads on through, as Jalving is seen in the distance.

Hunsley has been having a quiet race.

4th to 7th.

Horvath still leading as we head into the final 2 laps.

Jalving trails the Demon of Somogyi by 1 second, but is running out of laps to try and get into the top 10.

Near the rear of the field, Elleker is still holding Gilson behind him.

While Brunner still remains in front of both MAC's.

Onboard with Warrington.

The difference is 0.4s between Horvath and Warrington as we head towards the final lap.

The battle for 4th to 6th is still going on, and Legge is 1 second behind Greidanus.

Only 1 lap to go.

Van Renselaar holding on to 4th.

While Cartwright and Rodriguez hold on to 8th and 9th.

Behind them, still holding on to 10th, is Somogyi. Jalving is still 1 second behind.

Looking back from Horvath's TNR, and Warrington and Maverick are still close.

At the rear of the field and we have a battle for 13th to 15th.

But at the front, Warrington is so close to the back of Horvath with only one corner remaining.

Norbert Horvath wins the Monaco GP.

Warrington finishes 2nd.

And Maverick finishes 3rd. A massive effort from the AMR driver to have made up the ground to get back in the fight for 2nd, but just couldn't get there.

Horvath will be wanting to celebrate this victory.

Congratulations to Norbert Horvath and TNR. Winner of the Monaco GP.

Stay tuned for official results.
