GPG Nations Cup Rd15 British GP – Qualifying

Hello and welcome to Silverstone, the host for Rd15 of the GPG Nations Cup. The last time we were racing, Jean Girard of France was victorious at the Zandvoort circuit. Can Girard and France repeat their race winning performance once again? We’ll have to wait and see. Anyways, it’s time to see how the qualifying session turned out for the drivers. With a massive 75% chance of rain, the drivers can only hope that the rain doesn’t fall. But no one can control the unpredictable weather.

Weather Report: Rain

22nd - Monaco: (1st Run: 14th, 2nd Run: 14th, 3rd Run: 17th, Final Run: 22nd)
Not a good session from the Monaco team. Grimaldi was the first driver out onto the track at the start of the session, and managed to set a time that was good enough for 14th. But as the conditions improved, it was clear that the car wasn’t setup to Grimaldi’s liking as he couldn’t really improve on his time, and was left watching everyone else improve on their times.

21st - Germany: (1st Run: 21st, 2nd Run: 21st, 3rd Run: 22nd, Final Run: 21st)
Championship leader Tobias Kederer in the Germany car just couldn’t get the maximum speed out of the car. His first run left him down in 21st, and from there, there were no further improvements. It’s going to be a tough race for the German as he looks to hold onto the championship lead.

20th - Australia: (1st Run: 11th, 2nd Run: 18th, 3rd Run: 12th, Final Run: 20th)
A decent lap from McGregor in the Australia car in his first run saw him sitting in 11th, but lost a bunch of places during the second runs. A better lap saw the Australian climb back up to 12th in the third run, but it was not to be as everyone managed to improve on their times in the final runs, leaving McGregor near the back of the grid.

19th - Canada: (1st Run: 10th, 2nd Run: 17th, 3rd Run: 18th, Final Run: 19th)
Copeman’s first run was looking good for a top 10 result, but later on he couldn’t improve on his time as everyone else was able to improve, dropping the Canada team down the order. Canada will be hoping for some luck to go there way if they want to have a chance at scoring points.

18th - San Marino: (1st Run: 18th, 2nd Run: 15th, 3rd Run: 16th, Final Run: 18th)
For Silvestre in the San Marino car, this qualifying session would need to be a good one. But only managing to set the 18th fastest time in the first run was a sign that this race weekend was going to be a tough one. Only one improvement was made in the second run which moved Silvestre up to 16th, but that was as far as they went before losing out in the last two runs.

17th - Netherlands: (1st Run: 3rd, 2nd Run: 8th, 3rd Run: 3rd, Final Run: 17th)
The session started off brilliantly for De Boer, as he set a time that saw him sitting in 3rd after the first runs. He managed to retake 3rd in the third run, but was soon pushed down the order in the final run as nearly everyone managed to improve on their time as the weather improved. It’s going to be a tough race for sure for the Netherlands team.

16th - Italy: (1st Run: 15th, 2nd Run: 19th, 3rd Run: 20th, Final Run: 16th)
Setting a time that was only good enough for 15th in the first run was not how Tafuro would’ve wanted to start the session. And with no improvements seen until the final run, this may be a sign that this weekend is not going to plan for the Italy team.

15th - Japan: (1st Run: 16th, 2nd Run: 16th, 3rd Run: 21st, Final Run: 15th)
Kamakazi could only set a time good enough for 16th in his first run. Not the best start for the Japan team, and the only improvement was seen in the final run. Kamakazi and the Japan team are going to need all the luck they can get should they hope for a decent result this weekend.

14th - Philippines: (1st Run: 13th, 2nd Run: 9th, 3rd Run: 8th, Final Run: 14th)
For Sarosa and the Philippines team, a high qualifying position would be a great way to bounce back from the unfortunate retirement at the previous race. Sarosa managed to set the 13th fastest time in the first run, and then managed to improve on that position in both the second and third runs. But as the weather improved, so did the other drivers, and ultimately the Philippines team dropped back down the order.

13th - Spain: (1st Run: 17th, 2nd Run: 11th, 3rd Run: 13th, Final Run: 13th)
Alvarez didn’t get a good start to his qualifying session, as he only managed to set the 17th fastest time. He did manage to improve up to 11th in the second run, but that was the only improvement of the entire session.

12th - Mexico: (1st Run: 6th, 2nd Run: 7th, 3rd Run: 6th, Final Run: 12th)
A great first lap from Cremasco saw the Mexican set the 6th fastest time. He only lost one position during the second runs, and then managed to get 6th back in the third run. But in the final runs as the weather improved, 6th was soon out of Mexico’s reach as they were pushed down the order.

11th - China: (1st Run: 9th, 2nd Run: 14th, 3rd Run: 11th, Final Run: 1th)
The last time it was raining during qualifying, Tung didn’t manage to set a decent time due to inexperience in wet weather conditions. This time around, he managed to set the 9th fastest time in the first run. But it didn’t last for long as the China team were pushed down the order a few positions in the second runs. An improvement in the third run would be the only one of the session, which sees the China team start just outside the top 10.

10th - Portugal: (1st Run: 19th, 2nd Run: 3rd, 3rd Run: 4th, Final Run: 10th)
The Portugal team didn’t seem to get a good start to the session, as Silva only managed to set the 19th fastest time. But Silva soon put that behind him as he proceeded to set the 3rd fastest time in the second run. Unfortunately, the improving weather conditions in the final run saw Silva’s top 5 grid position gone as the other drivers managed to improve on their times.

9th - Montenegro: (1st Run: 1st, 2nd Run: 5th, 3rd Run: 1st, Final Run: 9th)
Vukcevic had the best start to qualifying by taking provisional pole. He lost it during the second runs, then managed to retake provisional pole again in the third runs. But as the weather improved in the final runs, Vukcevic’s fantastic time was soon overtaken by other drivers, and the Montenegro driver was pushed down the order to the back of the top 10. It may be qualifying, but it looks like Montenegro has speed to burn. They may very well be a force to be reckoned with in the race.

8th - USA: (1st Run: 7th, 2nd Run: 2nd, 3rd Run: 7th, Final Run: 8th)
Austin in the USA car made a decent start in qualifying, by setting the 7th fastest time. He soon managed to improve again up to 2nd in the second run, but this wouldn’t stay for long. As the weather improved, so did everyone’s laptimes, and the USA team were dropped down the order.

7th - France: (1st Run: 5th, 2nd Run: 12th, 3rd Run: 9th, Final Run: 7th)
The winner of the previous race, Jean Girard, was looking to get the best possible start to qualifying. He managed to set the 5th fastest time in the first run, but the second run didn’t work out well for the French driver as he slipped back to 12th. He managed to get two improvements prior to the end of qualifying, and will start the race from inside the top 10.

6th - Ireland: (1st Run: 22nd, 2nd Run: 4th, 3rd Run: 5th, Final Run: 6th)
It was a disastrous start to qualifying for Taytoh in the Ireland car. He ran off the circuit on his first run, effectively ruining his first chance at setting a good laptime. But it didn’t seem to faze Taytoh as on his next run, he managed to set the 4th fastest time. His time would not last for long, as in both the third and final runs he was pushed down a place. But Taytoh will be happy knowing he is starting from just outside the top 5.

5th - Great Britain: (1st Run: 4th, 2nd Run: 1st, 3rd Run: 2nd, Final Run: 5th)
The team that everyone came to see here in Silverstone, Team Great Britain, will be hoping for a great qualifying position. Paddock didn’t disappoint as he set the 4th fastest time on his first run, and then followed that up by taking provisional pole in his second run. He managed to hold onto a front row start position in the third run, but was unable to hold onto the position as a few drivers managed to set a faster time in the final run.

4th - Argentina: (1st Run: 8th, 2nd Run: 10th, 3rd Run: 10th, Final Run: 4th)
The Argentina team didn’t get the best start to the session, as Domenech was only fast enough for 8th in the first run. No improvements were seen in the second and third runs, but as the weather improved in the final run Domenech soon found himself at the top of the timesheet. But unfortunately his time wasn’t fast enough as it was soon beaten by the top 3, leaving the Argentina driver starting inside the top 5.

3rd - South Korea: (1st Run: 12th, 2nd Run: 20th, 3rd Run: 14th, Final Run: 3rd)
Mi Pio Kung in the South Korea car, who debuted in the previous race, has high hopes of a good qualifying position. But he didn’t quite get a good start to the session, and soon found himself in 12th after the first run. The session got even worse for the South Korea team as they were pushed down to 20th after the seconds run were completed. But all hope wasn’t lost, as Kung managed to improve up to 14th in the third run. As the weather improved, he soon found himself with speed to burn, and managed to set a time that saw him jump straight to the top of the timesheet on his final run. But the time was beaten by the last two drivers to set their last lap, and the South Korea driver will start the race from the second row of the grid. Not bad for a team that is competing in their second race.

2nd - Bulgaria: (1st Run: 20th, 2nd Run: 22nd, 3rd Run: 15th, Final Run: 2nd)
Nikolov didn’t have a good start to his qualifying session. His first run was only fast enough for 20th. Things didn’t improve for the second run, and he soon found himself in 22nd. Then the weather started improving, and the Bulgaria team soon found some extra speed. Nikolov only managed to improve up to 15th in the third run, but then pulled out a fantastic lap that saw him sit near the top of the timesheet in his final run. But his time wasn’t fast enough to take the pole position, leaving the Bulgarian starting the race from the front row of the grid.

Pole - Fiji: (1st Run: 2nd, 2nd Run: 6th, 3rd Run: 19th, Final Run: 1st)
The only thing that can be said about the final run from Cauncaunibuca is that it was perhaps one of the best laps ever seen. He set the 2nd fastest time in his first run, but then it started to go downhill as the Fiji driver soon found himself falling down the order in the second and third runs. Then the weather improved, and Cauncaunibuca proceeded to deliver a stunning lap that saw him jump to the top of the timesheet in his final run. And the time was good. So good that it was .7s faster than 2nd place. Team Fiji has sent a warning to the other nations, and will be hoping to finish in a good position in the race.

Team China

Looks like Cheng is starting from 11th. Once again, inexperience was the biggest disadvantage. I'm sure he'll eventually understand how to get to grips with the wet weather eventually when it's a wet qualifying session, which hopefully will allow him to go faster. Our goal for the race? Simply try and survive and finish inside the top 10. But with the impending threat of rain for the race, that may be easier said than done.

Team South korea

Kung did a excellent work, no boost and a 3rd place in the starting line, i'm hoping the race to be as rainy as possible, then we could have a chance of winning this
Dammit and this is why using boost at Silverstone is such a gamble, it was all looking so good and then the weather just turned. Hopefully something fairly consistent will come tomorrow and we can power through to field to take some points.

Sorry Tobi but good to see Germany down in 21st, the championship is going to get quite tight coming in to the last 2 races!

Cheers Greg for running this, great job as always! :)

We were looking good but luck wasn't kind to us.
Kinda sums up our whole season, really.

We are reasonably happy with 6th on the grid. Ideally it would have been better to be ahead of Team GB, but considering our off on the first run, we settle for what we have.

Crappy qualifying :(

If only I was one of those 3 who did their runs in the final seconds of the session, seems that that was the best time to be on the track ;)

Team Fiji
Oh yeeeeaaaahhhh! There's the performance we've known has been in there somewhere! Really pleased to take pole by a whopping seven tenths, that was a spectacular lap. Conditions were tricky, but Caucau judged it to perfection.

Hoping for a clean start, a good race and another strong points finish!

Great coverage by the way Greg
Taking into account the amount of boost spent on qualification, this results comes from nowhere for Bulgaria. Beautiful drive by Nikolov that stunned everyone around and he deserved his front row position.

Podium finish in the race is possible, and our aim will be to finish at least in top 5.
Incredible dissapointing result in this qualification ... race can only be better!

If you are racing, keep on racing and get some points!

Girard in 7th is not too bad. Was hoping for more, given the boost we ran, but... seems we, and others struggled in the challenging weather conditions...

GPG Nations Cup Rd 15 British GP – Race Day

Part 1

Welcome back to Silverstone, as we get ready for the start of the race. Cauncaunibuca was the fastest man in qualifying yesterday, and will start from pole position. Alongside him is Nikolov in the Bulgaria car, while Kung and Domenech make up the 2nd row. We had a wet qualifying yesterday, and it seems we are in for a wet race. Weather report shows that heavy rain is due, and will be sticking around for the entire race. I’m hearing that the race director is eager to get this race underway, so let’s head down to the grid as we get set for the start of the British GP.

Weather Report: Rain

Here we go. Cauncaunibuca is on pole. Nikolov is next to him. When the lights go out, it’s on.

They are off! Cauncaunibuca takes the lead heading into the first corner.

Meanwhile, Girard is on the back of Taytoh, while in front of them Nikolov is trying his best to hold back Paddock.

Cremasco looks to be in trouble and facing the wrong way. What happened?

It looks like Saraso had hit the side of Cremasco, but it seems that it was because of Kederer running into the back of Sarosa that caused the incident, resulting in Cremasco being turned around.

Cremasaco gets going again, but is now in last place.

Paddock is putting pressure on Kung.

There seems to be a train starting to form behind Paddock.

Looks like Domenech and Vukcevic are going to have a battle with each other. Vukcevic goes by on the outside.

Oh no! There’s contact between the two, and Domenech is up on two wheels.

This results in the Argentina car rolling over and losing a rear wheel.

As the replay shows, it was quite a rollover for Domenech.

Onboard with Vukcevic shows that there was hardly any space between the two.

The view of Domenech’s rollover from onboard Vukcevic’s car.

Sarosa was most unlucky. He arrives on the scene and has nowhere to go but straight into the broken front wing from the Argentina car. He loses his own front wing, and thankfully he is able to dive straight into the pits for repairs.

Kederer passes both Alvarez and De Boer, but the pass was made under yellow flag conditions. The stewards won’t be too keen on that.

Team Fiji takes the first fastest lap of the race.

Kung under pressure from Paddock once again.

Nikolov holding down 4th, but Taytoh is closing in.

It appears that Girard has managed to get by Taytoh.

This isn’t going to end well. Austin looks up the inside.

And he manages to get by. Meanwhile, Cauncaunibuca sets yet another fastest lap.

Tung looks to be trouble. He has run wide, and Kederer takes the advantage and gets by the China car.

Leaving Tung to fend off De Boer in the Netherlands car.

Grimaldi up to 17th.

At the back of the field, Sarosa is putting pressure on Kamakazi.

Kung has been passed by Paddock. How did this happen?

Replay shows that Paddock went up the inside of Kung to take 2nd place.

But the pass was made under yellow flag conditions. How will the stewards react to this?

Back to the action, and we are under yellow flag conditions once again.

And here’s the reason why. Austin has been hit by someone and lost his front wheel. But who was responsible?

Silva has lost part of his front wing. Perhaps it was the Portugal car who hit the USA car.

This explains everything. Austin had ran wide, and was rejoining the track.

And Silva was left with nowhere to go but straight into the USA car. That causes the damage to the Portugal car, and puts the USA car out of the race.

Kamakazi is off as well.

At least he is able to rejoin with no problems. Meanwhile, Fiji takes the fastest lap once again.

Paddock is off the track.

He rejoins, but has lost 2nd to Kung.

And the replay shows that he ran off all on his own.

Kederer is looking for his chance to get past Tung. He goes to the inside.

But Tung succeeds in holding onto his position.

Another fastest lap to Fiji.

As we ride onboard with Cauncaunibuca, let’s take a look at the current standings as of lap 5.

Tung in trouble once again. He has gone off the track.

The way he is going, he may end up hitting Kederer.

Fortunately, there is no contact. But Kederer is forced wide while trying to stay out of Tung’s way.

Kederer rejoins, and straight away has to defend from Alvarez.

Tung rejoins, but he’ll most likely be angry with himself for making the error.

Fiji takes yet another fastest lap, as Copeman attempts to pass Kederer.

This is a situation that no one wants to be in. Copeman goes up the inside, while Alvarez goes around on the outside, which leaves Kederer in the middle.

Kederer holds his position, while Alvarez has lost out in the move and was passed by by both McGregor and Silvestre, with Tung looking for his chance to get by as well.

Alvarez managed to hold his position, but Tung is still lurking behind.

Tung is in trouble yet again. He has run wide.

And is hit by Grilmaldi while rejoining the track.

This results in a retirement for Tung.

And an unscheduled stop for Grimaldi to get his front wing fixed.

Cauncaunibuca is enjoying his time out in front.

Tafuro and Copeman go side by side, while McGregor looks on.

Copeman won that battle, and McGregor also managed to get by Tafuro.

Looks like a train is starting to form behind Copeman.

McGregor has run wide, and loses not only his position back to Tafuro, but to Kederer and Silvestre as well.

He rejoins behind Alvarez.

Onboard with Taytoh, and to his left is Kung in the South Korea car. Looks like Kung has run wide.

Kung rejoins behind Taytoh.

It’s been a very interesting start to the race, and there’s still more action to unfold. But for now, we must take a break.

Another dreadful race as it seems.

My Grand Prix 4 Files

I'm a total dick. How many people can say that?
Seems to be a hard race for Bulgaria team as we expected to be a little drier. However now we can see if Nikolov deserves the title. Top 5 is still our aim.
