You could make the calipers much smaller, regardless of material.

While the tracks are designed for overtaking, they are too polished, too clean, too smooth, too wide, too perfect. They need to be more difficult and then you'll see overtaking.

As for Alonso being unable to pass Kubica, as Smedley said on the BBC Forum, the Renaults were far faster on the straights than the Ferrari. Alonso did have a go at Petrov and nearly made it. It's not like he was happy sitting behind him. The guy was driving his nuts out, as could be seen from his frustration at the end of the race.

Unfortunately the case with new tracks, you can never build in the imperfections. Silverstones modification is pure luck with that bump.

You're definitely right, Ed. But then it's the job of the driver and the team to stay in front of slower guys after the pitstop. That's what I wanted to say with my sentence. As mentioned earlier by someone here, Ferrari made a mistake by only concentrating on Webber. Everyone knew that it would be difficult to overtake and therefore you have to calculate with these options. Also Alonso was way too passive after Button passed him in the first corner. He could have put pressure on him after that but didn't because he didn't go any risk. That's what put him into this situation in the end.

Very good by Vettel at the last.

Who was dropping all the Trips in the Ferrari garage???? Montezemelo forgot about his curse of attending the finale!

Why on earth did they bring Alonso in? Was it his call or the team? Very silly.

Just Drive ... a @#$%& piece of music. BBC have been using a lot of generic lame-ass tosh for their coverage, as have Codemasters.

By the way, with regards to the Kubica white line saga, it wasn't the line which separated the pit lane from the track it was the line which led to the runoff of the pitlane, see below:

This was definitely the best season in years. It had everything!

Vettel was awesome today, he finally got what he lost last year. I feel sorry for Webber, but if the RB7 is good enough, he'll be back on the fight next year.

The two Renaults had an unexpected protagonism today, with Petrov finally showing some talent. Alonso got mad with him at the end (LOL, did you see him?) although that was really unnecessary and proved that Alonso is not a good loser. Then there was good old Kubica, helding Hamilton. He did his job, and provided an excellent spectacle.

Don't forget Kobayashi, who made up to 3rd for some laps.

To sum up, a fantastic season, and let's hope next year will be the same. Maybe we could start a thread about the best and the worst things of the season, what do you think?

Stats: 139 Starts / 7 Wins / 9 Poles / 5 Fastest laps

Then Rosberg shouldn't have had a penalty in Singapore in 2008. ;-)

Kubica should be penalised, and may still be.

Indeed! I guess it depends on the stewards and how consistent they want to be.

Rosberg ended up on the track though didn't he? With Kubica there was a wall between then, and a run off zone. If the white line is enforced like that, then all those moves in the Chinese GPs are illegal too.

Rosberg deserved to be penalised for @#$%& up every second stint that season anyway. Ruined so many races.

But Rosberg went over onto the track itself, Kubica didn't. It looked dodgy at face value the line he took, but by the stage the line alone was separating the pit lane from the track he was on the right side of it.
I think that in this situation a penalty should be given based on whether a car has actually wandered onto the track itself, not if the car has gone wide but stayed within the confines of the pit lane.

Brazilian tv commentators said today that if Maldonado doesn't perform well at the coming tests, he will go to Hispania "on loan" as part of the deal between the teams, and Hulk will retain his seat.

How much truth is in there, we'll know in 2011.

This race shows up Bernie's medal system as the piece of @#$%& it was always going to be.

The theory behind that was that it would reward wins more (which the current system also does) and that it would provide more incentives for drivers to overtake and try to win.

Alonso today had the biggest incentive he could possibly have had, yet for the drivers championship, he couldn't overtake a driver 13th in the standings.

Bernie, if you haven't already put that idea to bed, today was the clearest indication yet that it needs to be.

just watched a slow mo replay of the incident, i tought Michael lost the car on his won, and he did too from his comments, but Rosberg did touch him.... not the tyre, but the floor of the car

it was a bad year anyway for him but he was doing good lately, a shame it ended like this

Was a good race well done to vettel.

I love the way MS fans are claimed Rubens moved 3 times, I have watched it back and can only see the one move.

Ferrari totally cocked that one up they should have forgot Webber and raced the 3 infront, they done the same thing Mclaren did in 2008 only mclaren got away with it.

Tbh I sort of feel Vettel deserves it, yes he cocked up many times this year but lets face it the car let him down more than he let himself down.

Kubica was lucky to get away with the pit lane exit and Vettel could well have got a drive through for the safety car thing when he sped up and then slowed down, lewis done well to avoid that. It looked like vettel was going and then just backed off.

Alonso though at the end of the race with Petrov was a bit rude, but petrov was having none of it he drove a good race.

A good year roll on next year.

What a great season!
Can't say I am thrilled by the title winner, but he is a star in his own right. Fast, consistent, but still erratic. Take out his famous contreversial incidents this year (Turkey and Spa specifically), and had he finished those two races, he could have claimed the title a race or two ago! Well done to Seb. Somehow you get the feeling, if he stays in the right car for the next few years, he could well be a multi-time champ!

Sadly for us patriotic Aussies, it just wasnt too be for Webber. The poor qualifying, then the seemingly non existent pace through the race, the result was looking bad early on. And it stayed that way. He still had a great season, by far his best ever, so quite happy for him.

Bring on 2012.
