The Prime Minister and his wife are fine. The president and his wife are dead. I arrived at the University of Warsaw yesterday around 9:00 am of local time to attend the lectures and I actually eyewitnessed all the tragedy. I saw all the people coming round as the university is located only a few-minute walk away from the President's Palace.
Strangely, I found out about the crash from a Nepalese friend of my friend who sent her a text. I thought to myself "Yeah, that's another of those bad jokes about our president. How could anyone have come up with something so terribly nasty and disgusting?" A few minutes later, during the lecture on fantasy literature, we all started checking the news with our mobile phones....unfortunately, whichever news service we entered, the news was the same. After all the lectures finished we came to the Palace to pay the tribute. I didn't actually wholeheartedly support the deceased president's policy but when I look at the headline: "The coffin with the remains of Lech Kaczynski brought back to Warsaw" I feel as if I'm watching a really sad movie. I share the grief but I still can't believe it...It's just like a motion picture to me. What I'm looking for are the credits after the final scene...unfortunately, the only names which I see after the final scene are the names of 96 people who died in the crash.
That's one of those fateful days, when asked about it in 40 years, I will forever remember what I actually was doing and where I was when I found out about it.
Of course, John Paul II died, too. But he was old an terminally ill - a few days before his death everyone knew it'd happen...
Here, the crash took the lives of the president, his wife, all the leaders of the Polish Army and dozens of politicians (I still remember one of them, Mr Gosiewski, whom I passed on the street some two months from now when he was on a walk with his three small children, who are now half-orphans)
Sorry for that off-topic...I'm Polish and I had to say that.
Well, Kubica didn't have much of luck in the previous season. BMW wasn't a great team. I think that he'd really do well in Ferrari but, as you guys say, it's not likely for him to get transferred to Ferrari now. However, the season has just started and we don't know whether he's going to keep his shape up or not. At the point Kubica might be the champion as well as the mid-grid driver. Time will show whether he's worth of driving for Ferrari.
