lol, that second picture could be anything. ;)

The new layout is not crappy. The racing there is a thousand times better than it was on the old circuit. Throw away those rose-tinted glasses, they are obviously starting to affect your common sense.

Man those photos are depressing.

Basically, idiocy resulted in the castration, nay, mutilation of this unique circuit. Fair enough , cars blasting along a fairly narrow track at 220 mph, only feet away from the trees, could be considered dangerous. Let the drivers play tiddlywinks so. It wasn't great spectator-wise either though, as there wasn't much they could do in the forest to improve spectating facilities because they couldn't knock the trees, and because the track was so long, the cars only went round so many laps (around 45) so the spectators in the motordrome wouldn't see as much as at other races.

None of that justified digging the old circuit up and preventing more sensible racing series from using it.

/edit I see Toby does not agree with me! ;) We all have our preferences I guess! :)

Speak for yourself. The new circuit is certainly one of the better creations made/revised in modern years, but it pales into insignificance to what was a classic track, or even most of the other tracks which preceded it.

Hockenheim may have been primarily flat-out, but so is the Indy 500 and Le Mans. It and Monza were special. They're now both just castrated members, living on memories. At least the Italians have refused to raze theirs yet.

The racing at the new Hockenheim isn't what it was. It's pretty much just another circuit. It won't host a 2000 or 1994. It's only good when circumstance intervenes - it just happens more often than at other tracks.

Isn't there a Jim Clark memorial out there somewhere?

Wonder what happened to that?

I'd love the older Monza to still be around. Those Lesmo corners really made your bowels move, especially the second one which was absolutely flat.

It was relocated after the old track was ripped up, but it's still there as far as I know.

The old Parabolica disappeared many decades ago.

The old Hockenheim didn't produce awesome racing, just like the new one doesn't either. Fact is that the old Hockenheim was special, like Spa and Monza. At least the race was moderately good because you'd have special circumstances, and the racing itself wasn't special. Now the track is boring and the racing still isn't special.

I didn't like the old Hockenheim for whether or not the racing was good. It was a circuit in the mould of Monza and Spa, classic and iconic. Now I'd rather it wasn't on the calendar at all. Nor the Nürburgring, that new first sector is terrible.

What / when did they change (to) parabolica? I thought it looked different nowadays and in newer games but I always assumed that was because of the completely changing the width and all of the start finish straight. I really hate the first chicane though.
