Originally the Parabolica was a more constant radius banked corner. In the 30's it changed to twin right-handers, then in 1955 (as Frantic said) it became the corner we know now.

What was it like before then then? :P

And anyway, even the "unchanged" parabolica was changed, as I was assuming you were meaning in between 1967 and present day.

I think you've got the first 2 the wrong way around Frantic. The original had the banked Parabolica with the original oval, and the Vedano circuit replaced the road track in '38.

The old Vedano corners still exist, just past the south banking.

Aye, I remember that thread, or more correctly I remember my dismay when I realised for the first time that they'd dug up the old circuit.

I think Hockenheim had to rip up the old track. Because I think they had to clear a fair amount of tress for the venue overhaul. In which case they had to destroy the old "ring" and plant new trees.

I loved the old Hockenheim, but it's gone and theres now no use bleating about it.

i went there about a year and a half ago. it was mid-week so just had a look round. (btw if you go, i wouldn't bother with the museum its pretty rubbish)

we went up to the point where the new track turns away from the forest. they've moved the jim clark memorial to there now.

It is really weird scene as its only slightly overgrown so you can still see the line the track took through the trees.

Gosh, it's really nondescript really. I kinda expected a bigger memorial.

You should have seen the way it looked a couple of years after the circuit's butchering, it was completely abandoned by some bushes and trees.

Nah, it's about appropriate. Remember Jim Clark was fairly quiet and unassuming, he'd probably be quite embarrassed if it was a extravagant memorial.

Well no, I wouldn't expect anything extravagant, it just surprised me that the slab is that small. It's nice though having looked at it again.

Sorry if I had missed the point, but why is his memorial not placed where exactly he died on track?

Like Sennas statue behind Tamburello's walls.

Maybe the section after Clark Kurve is sealed off, so they moved it closer to the new track so modern fans can appreciate it on a race weekend?

since we are at memorials, Iwas to monza about dozen times, and only memorial I saw was Fangio's in the section behind the paddock, but When I went to the end of the back straight to parabolica enterance, a place where Von tripps and Rindt were killed I couldnt find anything, just like nothing ever happened there. So I wouldnt be surprised if they just took memorial away in some museum or something like that, because I think they do not mind too much.

I never saw anything where Von Tripps died, and where Rindt died there are just trees behind the wall though they could definitely have something behind the infield barrier:
