I agree its a bit of a taboo subject, but like I tried to say in the post, its not what they are, being nuclear weapons which I agree will never be used, its more what they represent which is just a card on the table. If any serious talks or negotiations occur in the future, I think with the less cards you have on the table to push some weight behind you, the less seriously you will be taken.by 97kirkc - Off-Topic
I think I'm in the same boat as Sim on this, I do like what Nick Clegg is doing and he has done a brilliant job at these debates but his stance on trident is rather concerning, and very naive of the modern world. Yes we do need more of a budget for the armed forces, but leaving us defenceless isn't really the way to do it. Every major and quite a lot of minor players has defences siby 97kirkc - Off-Topic
If it really did get a bit desperate they can fly directly to Spain at the moment as well as Greece, Lithuania, Portugal, Russia, Turkey or the Ukraine in terms of what's available in and around Europe.by 97kirkc - F1
As I posted in the F1 section, the last time this volcano erupted of similar magnitude and style in 1821, it kept on erupting for 2 years. So yeah, airlines are possibly kind of screwed. They're already talking about having to be bailed out by the government here in the UK.by 97kirkc - Off-Topic
To have an idea how extreme it could be, the last time a similar eruption happened of the same magnitude, it kept on erupting for 2 years in 1821. Air companies are currently flying trials as we speak. Basically they're very worried about a repeat of a 1982 BA Jumbo that flew into a volcanic ash cloud. Once you're up in the air its very hard to know as it won't be detected on standby 97kirkc - F1
I have to say, your query doesn't really make any sense in modern F1. The cars/garage equipment and general containers will be packed up and sent to the airport as freight as normal. This will then be impounded prior to the six 747 freight planes to be cleared for loading which all the F1 teams use. Once the airspace problem has been lifted the planes will be loaded and sent back to the UK.by 97kirkc - F1

I'm not sure what's worse, that some of those quotes are worse than I remember or that some people are highlighting them as if they're something positive! There's being emotional in commentating and then there's trying to use metaphors, back tracking and sounding like a complete tit!by 97kirkc - F1
Pretty standard last ditch approach, but nice and old school, the way it should be! A similar tactic can be used to try and get a bit more juice out of a near-to-buggered laptop battery.by 97kirkc - Off-Topic
In a way I do feel sorry for him, as it has been stated on many occasions his hands are very much tied on what he can get away with when designing these circuits. As the majority, if not all, of these new circuits that he has designed have a large government backing, he is under enormous pressure to translate the powers-that-be's wishes into the track itself. Shanghai for example is based onby 97kirkc - F1
F1 does seem to have quite short memories with something like this. Lotus and Virgin are already within 107% of the pace so far, about 5ish seconds out, which is Minardi pace from 2005. Hisperian is going to take longer to get upto speed but it will most likely have come by the time we get to Monaco etc. Even so, what do you suppose they did back in say 1992? Have people suddenly forgotten that 5by 97kirkc - F1
I think its worth pointing out that without new teams, including Sauber in this case, we would be down to a grid of 16 cars. F1 needs new teams to be viable, now more than ever. If Genii hadn't bailed Renault out it might have been 14. It doesnt help that with the new extension to Bahrain making it a very long lap, it will exaggerate the gap between the new teams and the old.by 97kirkc - F1
Jake Humphrey et al have been recording videos prior to the new season, check them out on the link below: This particular one is fantastic at the end! (Probably UK visitors only)by 97kirkc - F1
1) Ferrari hasn't really been the same since that era. 2) Brawn found and exploited a loophole in the regulations which gave them an advantage, as the regulations had essentially been wiped clean. With that honeymoon period now over there is nothing like that to exploit this season. The Brawn/Honda 09 car was started much much earlier than the time your talking about with Ferrari, some reby 97kirkc - F1
I think ESPNs Claire Funnell sums it up pretty well: "Prospective team Stefan GP has bought what remained of Toyota’s F1 operation - which had already surrendered its grid spot – and Serbian boss Zoran Stefanovic says his team is ready to race in Bahrain. It is now far too late to re-open the tendering process for 2010, but allowing a team to effectively jump the queue makes a mockery ofby 97kirkc - F1

Good decision by the FIA if you ask me, even Bernie said they have to have a tender process and its just too late for that. I imagine Prodrive may try again, at least.by 97kirkc - F1

Hulkenberg, although it maybe slightly biased, says that its far better than the Toyota powerplant which he drove with in the December test, but they were extremely cautious bringing everything up to speed which is complete expected. I'm sure they are doing everything possible to not remind themselves of 2006 with a poor installation. It will be interesting to see how they have done with theby 97kirkc - F1
It's worrying how none of you checked the Stefan GP website, where everyone has got it from :Pby 97kirkc - F1

I think everyone was hoping for a David Croft/Martin Brundle partnership, sadly its not to be. I also read on another forum that Brundle actually has a stipulation in his contract stating that he won't work with him for whatever reason(s).by 97kirkc - F1
They still have some way to go (labelling it precautionary doesn't mean that its all fine and dandy!) they are at the moment the most unreliable except for Virgin, the car stopped out on track again today.by 97kirkc - F1
2 or 3 engine changes in quick succession isn't serious?by 97kirkc - F1
Im sure we can all agree Alonso is looking forward to working with Ferrari and betraying them at some point in the future.by 97kirkc - F1
Did you even read his post? As far as I know there isn't anything available for the windows mobile as of yet that can do what you're after. The live timing should work on your windows mobile though if you have a realitively new model with Opera mobile for Internet, as far as I know that should support the java required. I did try to test this out by loading live timing from the formuby 97kirkc - F1
