Nah, it's backwards compatable, so you can choose any of 7, 8 or 9 in the rF config menu.

rFactor is bloody good :D It's got me back into simracing. Been away playing FPS for the best part of 3 years now, and only ventured back now and then for a days play. I hope rFactor changes this, and for now, it seems like it will.

It is DX9, I have the same card, but I couldn't tell the difference runing in DX8 mode, so gladly took the extra FPS.
