It snowed again here last night in the middle of the night, and it didn't stop till mid-morning. Nearly 2 inches! For here that's not bad at all.
Some of it's melted now since it's been a nice sunny afternoon, but there's still plenty left, and the sky's clear so I'd imagine it'll absolutely freeze here tonight.
This could be our first white Christmas for what, 5 years? :)

Well my reverse tactic worked extremely well at home, still at work at the moment... Hasn't snowed anymore yet and I made an effort to make some decent groves whilst parking here.

I decided on the reverse tactic because I found yesterday that I was getting more traction in reverse than I wad in forward gears. Yes I know that means the front wheels are then pushing the rear as opposed to pulling, but the weight balance seemed more suited in this case, which seemed to be vinicated by the ease of reversing out of the snow this afternoon where was as much snow outside my flat as there was and is the car park at work

i can get up our gently sloping driveway in my FWD Escort, my dad can't get his RWD C Class up, even using the semi-auto 'box in a higher gear (plus it weighs a lot more than mine), so it shows the effect of which wheels are being driven.

RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael

Well.... it seems that my work car park is the major problem. Being on a bit of a hill that's a given I suppose... my reverse tactic very nearly failed. But at least this time I didn't need to get down on my hands and knees and scrape away the snow and ice with my screen scraper... just got away on about the 4th time of trying.

So inspite of my best efforts it seems that I fail at failing ;)

A colleague had enough trouble simply just getting in his car.... doors frozen shut. Ever resourceful I checked each door in turn... until we got to the boot... it opened...just. So I got him to climb into his car through the boot. Lucky him that it isn't a saloon.

My right door also was frozen shut but it's a thing I take for granted every year. The other never get frozen, only this right front one.
My dad also had to get into the car through the boot one day.

It's good that the reversing technique worked this time but as you see, it's not the best way to get out of snow.

Luckily, in Poland we're having a thaw right now, so snow has become loose and it's not piling up anymore. I only hope that it won't be frosty at night. Otherwise the water from the melted snow will turn into ice rink.

We haven't had any more blizzards here yet. Some snow is still forecast... but it doesn't look as major. Still if it's on top of what is still on the ground then it's still going to expose Britain for the shambles it is.

I'm hoping to be able to get a more level bit of car park tonight... or at least get a bit that slopes down! I'll also dig out this cover thing i have for my windscreen that helps to prevent the windscreen from frosting up.

haha Isn't Northampton technically in the midlands??? - I play rugby in Northampton and it's a midlands league we're in??? (well I'm not from there originally so it may as well be the north!!!!)

It's only down the road from the towns most will associate as "midlands" - Birmingham, Cov .....

You guys not had much sno then?

It was a white Christmas here from 10am, it started snowing at that time.

It lasted to 10:05am when the snow turned into rain...

Ouch dude, that's harsh.
I was actually walking home from the pub last night(I always go out for a few quiet drinks on Christmas Eve, but always go home when the pubs shut rather than go clubbing) when it started raining, and I just thought "NNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" fearing that it would melt the snow in the small hours of Christmas morning, after having had snow lying here since the night this thread was started! Luckily it was a passing shower and the rain stopped after about an hour, and it hasn't rained here since.

That's just the kind of snow we usually get in the part of Scotland where I live. What I call Tesco Value Snow.
As an example, I remember one afternoon in late January 2007 when I happened to have the afternoon off uni. Heavy snow had been forecast, and at exactly 2PM the first flakes began to fall. So I started watching it as I do when I notice it snowing, and all I noticed was it stopping. It stopped snowing at 2:03PM, and didn't snow again that day. Pathetic. I remember being so underwhelmed, I didn't know whether to find it amusing or be disgusted. :P

In the UK we're now officially in the longest cold snap since 1981, and it's forecast to continue for another week or so at least:

How's everyone else in the UK coping at the moment? I've got to say, personally, although the constant slipping on ice is annoying, I'm quite liking these conditions overall. I've always complained in the past that we don't get proper winters here anymore... not this time!

Here in Oxford, we've had a shed-load of snow. All a bit of a mess, i didnt bother trying to get to work as they always shut the office at the slightest drop of snow it seems... I was right. Just been out for a drive to see what its all like, think its going to be messy in teh morning. The roads are fully gritted, yet at 40mph in 5th gear, i could nail the throttle and spin up the rears. Someone is going to come a cropper.
