what's the last alfa you've seen? they had rust problems in the past but in last 10 years they rust as much as other cars and no more

But thats why Alfas depreciate so badly. Because they rust and come to bits easily :)

As anze said, Alfas are fine. Everyone relies on history far too much when making car decisions - I bet most people still though german saloons were bulletproof reliability wise between 2001 - 2005, as they always have been. In reality, the mercs have broken a lot, as have the Audis.

Don't believe everything you hear ;-)

Mercs have improved there reliability in the last year, drivers are paying lower servicing costs and making less trips that previously. It was a brief sint from the late 90s to early 00s where they cut corners to save cash

That's why I put the years I did, because its better now, but not anywhere near where it should be.

I actually quite like the Smart Brabus Roadsters! Not a great car, but a very good idea.

But thats the thing with Company Cars isnt it, you drive it for a set number of months, give it back and then you presumably get another one to drive around in.

And on that note, what do you do for a living to be getting a Mercedes Company Car!

Other than the gearbox the Smart Roadster isnt a bad car at all!

I knew he worked for McLaren on the SLR. What I didnt know is that he actually built them. I figured he must be a designer or something, to have a company car.

Cant be that they give the grease monkeys company cars? If they do, what qualifications do you need to work for them. I may need to do a Career change. In fact thats a question Id sure many on here would like answered. What qualifcations are required, and are they hiring right now?

he's like one of these dudes in this pic, I don't think he's actually in this pic though:

yeah he physically works on building them.

I think he did some sort of engineering degree, and they don't get the Merc as a free company car, they have to pay for them (but they get a discount), then trade them in after a couple of years for another one.

A engineering degree! Just to screw together bits of car! I think I'll stay in my present job then. Seems like McLaren have standards which are a bit high!

Like the black coupe version more than the silver "saloon" shape.

They so cool. I drove a regular one a while back. And I sooo wanted to hate it. But its great. The gearbox lag is only noticeable if you use the paddles on the wheel. Its kind of a psychological thing in that when you pull the paddle you expect it instantly, but the stick feels mpore like a normal gearstick so it feels more like a normal change.

This is the DADDY version though. But at £320K I should hope so :-D

It stands to reason in order to work for a top engineering firm, you have to be a qualified engineer

Good on him I say.
