I was thoroughly disappointed by the Beta 2. There's virtually nothing new. IE 7 has the same html interpretation problems as its predeccessors (sp), and still has no new way of dealing with activeX controls.
Nothing new in Paint or Notepad. Install took 7Gb off my hard drive, took 3 hours to install properly. Has some nice transparency and GPU rendering of windows when thye aren't open, but to be honest, KDE has been able to do that in Linux for a while
It does make me wonder what Microsoft have been doing over the last 5 years - they have very little to show for their work. They do say a lot of the work is under the surface, in moving to a more kernel-based system, and focusimng more on security, Trouble is, their way of giving more security is by a very irritating 'are you sure?' to just about everything. Almost every click, you have to tell it yes, you really do want to do what you're doing.
As you'd expect, product activation is mandatory (14 days). I'm not planning on buying it when it comes out, it's a waste of money in my book.
Oh, and it didn't recognise my onboard sound card, which is the same chip as what comes on most, and I couldn't find where to change the screen resolution
