Gilson hoping to improve form at Suzuka

Tafuro GP test driver Joseph Gilson wants to return to scoring points, as the GPGSL heads to the Land of the Rising Sun for Round 9 of the season. After scoring points in three of the first four rounds of this years Testers Championship, Gilson has only scraped a single point in the latest three rounds, with that point coming at the Dutch GP event at Zandvoort.
"I'm hoping for a better result here in Japan, as the last two rounds have been terrible." said Gilson, after arriving for the first time at the Suzuka International Racing Course, "Everyone knows that this is a great race track, and I can't wait to get out there and drive."
After coming away from Germany empty handed, Gilson is currently eleventh in the GPGSL Testers Championship, three points behind True North's Owen Edwards, but seven points ahead of fellow Tafuro GP driver Jake Legge.
"Although this is my first time at this circuit, I'm confident that I can get some points, and more importantly, a good amount of setup data for the team's race drivers." The Briton added, before heading for a ride on the big wheel that overlooks the circuit.

Cool. Hopefully, I will get the Free Practise run today, and posted. If not, hopefully by this time tomorrow..... Qualifying will hopefully be done within 24 hrs too, and the main Race, should be all finished by early-mid next week at the latest, all going to plan.

GPGSL Japanese Grand Prix - Suzuka

Test Session

The Friday test session for the Testers Championship was held earlier this morning. The weather was gloomy to sart with and a steady drizzle had set in at the start of the session.


The weather as it was, didn't prevent the drivers venturing out on slicks. It looks like this could be the only chance for drivers to set a time.


The rain was getting worse. So one run could set the results.


Tafuro was first to set a time.


Legge followed his team boss over the line with a very disappointing time.


Thomas beat that quite easily, but left a large window to take that 2nd place.


However Rodriguez was not the one to do it.


Stokel struggled on his first run, just over three quarters of a second adrift.


At this point no-one seemed to be matching Tafuro's time, looked like the rain was getting worse.


Mills seems to be a very contented team owner at the moment, but did that lap make him smile? Only time will tell.


Looked like Copeman struggled with conditions in the VanSmirren.


Main series driver Pedersen got closer to the pace setter Tafuro.


Van Smirren himself slotted his Christel in between his own two drivers in 3rd.


The remaining race driver taking part today slipped his way to last place.


De Boer grabbed 7th all be it half a second down on the mafioso.


Paddock finally beat his team mates time putting bith MPR's at the top of the time sheets.


McGregor really struggled with the worsening conditions, setting the slowest time so far.


Aston Martin boss Ingers was happy to get in the top 3.


Somogyi split the MPR's.


Edwards must have been very unhappy with that lap.


Davies just beat his team boss to 4th place.


Van Renselaar could only manage a time stuck in the 1m 39's


As did Grant.


Gilson fought his way through the weather to take 12th.


Last man over the line was Cannot, I mean Connor Steer with 14th.


First runs complete.






As the rain worsened Rodriguez was already three seconds down at the first intermediate.


At the second he was a further 2 seconds adrift.


By the finish line Rodriguez was reporting to his pit that the slicks weren't getting warm enough to work.


Davies too was finding the track conditions difficult.


It was looking like the first runs were going to be the fastest.


And so it proved, no improvements were made for the rest of the session.
