F1 Manager - 2004 Main Season Thread - Season Over!

Toyota statement

Superb job by our guys again to finish 3rd and 5th respectively..Solid job and solid points to pull us a way from the jaguar challenge for 3rd in the constructors :)
Arrows Statement

Well that didnt go as planned to be honest. Firstly the drivers hitting each other. Both drivers have been given a warning. But Zonta did some great overtaking and overall we will take the positives and move on. We look forward to the next race.
BAR

Big improvement - however no points. This race showed that we're able to score points.
Raikkonen Leads Field in Rainy Shanghai
With European season now over Shanghai provides the first opportunity for Barrichello to take the title. If Schumacher fails to finish the race on Sunday and Rubens finishes 1st or 2nd, he will have a large enough gap to guarantee him the title with two races to spare. Anyway onto the racing and in Free Practice Kimi Raikkonen took advantage of the changing weather conditions by being the final driver across the line, pipping Christian Klien to the top spot in the process with Schumacher in 3rd. Further down the field Motoyama, Button and Coulthard performed well to make it into the top ten whilst Doornbos fell foul to the conditions and could only manage 16th.

Setup Reward
1. BAR +0.101
2. Jaguar +0.231
3. Arrows +0.354
4. Toyota +0.358
5. Sauber +0.812
6. Williams +0.930

Mclaren Mercedes Statement

Great by Jenson but Fernando was...........

Awful.

BAR
Could have been better, also worse though
Barrichello On Pole in Shanghai
Rubens Barrichello heads a consecutive Williams front row lock out in a rainy Shanghai after out qualifying his teammate by just over half a tenth of a second with Sauber's Timo Glock taking third. Barrichello's 6th pole of the season puts him in prime position to take the title should his closest rival Michael Schumacher, who qualified 5th, fail to finish the race. The rain as always has allowed some of the smaller teams to jump up the grid with Ricardo Zonta in 8th with his teammate Trulli in 10th. However none of the other teams managed to take as big of an advantage as Arrows did.

BAR

Toyota

Big improvement from practice makes us optimistic for the race :)

Apologies for the delay if the race coverage it's just that when I went to run it after quali the save had corrupted as all the grid positions were incorrect. So at the moment I'm in the process of trying to rectify that.

EDIT: Sorted, coverage shall be up late tonight or, more likely, midday tomorrow.

The race has been run and won and I have to say it was an absolutely incredible race. It was so good in fact that I can guarentee that my coverage will not do it justice and that in the excitement I forgot to save the full results ;) Luckily though I always take screenshots of everyones final positions just in case so we'll just have to do with text results this time around. It'll take me a while to write it up so coverage will be up sometime tomorrow :)

Chinese Grand Prix Race Broadcast
Hello and welcome to coverage of the Chinese Grand Prix live from the Shanghai International Circuit. Of course today the main talk during the race will be to do with both the drivers and constructors championship, both of which Williams can secure today. At the moment we have three drivers who can still mathematically win the title, Barrichello, Schumacher and Montoya, however if Barrichello wins the race Schumacher must finish 5th or higher to stay in with a chance but of course this is subject to change as the race develops. However things are much more straightforward, on paper, for Montoya, he must beat Barrichello to stay in with a chance. In the constructors assuming Williams take a 1-2 finish Ferrari must score 11 points to stay in the fight but again this is subject to change, and just to spice things up a bit whilst the track is bone dry now, there is a high chance of rain later on in the race. Anyway enough talk, it’s down to the track where we have all five lights on…

And we’re away and almost instantly Raikkonen rockets up into 5th from 7th

And Schumacher drops down to 7th, not a good start from him…

Meanwhile Zonta is up to 6th

And at the front Barrichello still has the lead, no doubt he’ll be looking to just run and hide now…

And now Villenueve looks to have more traction out of turn 6 and relieves Glock of 3rd

Meanwhile Schumacher has quickly snuck back up to 5th

McNish is looking for a way past Zonta and into 7th place

And he takes a tighter line through the second snail and gets a better run down the straight

And he takes the position

But things gets worse for Zonta as Da Matta seizes the opportunity and sneaks past his fellow Brazilian

Now Webber is looking to replicate his team mate

He gets alongside…

…and outbreaks him comfortably

And now Lotterer is looking to do the same

And he goes past Heidfeld as well

Da Matta appears to have to early pace as he sets a new fastest lap

And indeed he is putting it to good use as he looks for a way past Raikkonen

Simple move there

And even with that overtake he still goes quicker

Oh and Verstappen’s off!!! Disaster for Ferrari!!!

It appears he got terrible understeer through turn 7 and spun the car on the grass

He may not have been in the points at the time but he is now a long way behind the pack now…

And now Schumacher’s off as well!!!

As is Da Matta!!!

Seems as both just outbraked themselves, no contact was made…

Their error promotes Raikkonen and McNish back up into 5th and 6th

And Zonta sneaks back into the points, that means as things stand Williams would take both titles

And now as predicted, here is the rain as it appears Schumacher has already got past Zonta but he is still two places down on where he needs to finish

And now Trulli is having a go at his team mate, we all remember what happened last time right?

And it appears that in attempting the overtake Trulli has actually fallen back behind Da Matta

And now Zonta has gone wide in turn 1

And that quickly puts Da Matta back in the points

Now it’s time for some standings (Barrichello – 99pts, Schumacher – 78pts, Montoya – 78pts), (Williams – 177pts, Ferrari – 133pts)

Now Trulli is having another look at his team mate down into the hairpin

But nothing comes of it

Now Da Matta is having a go at Schumacher

But Michael shuts the door

Button is off at the final corner

Which allows Verstappen to come back through

Da Matta is the first into the pitlane

And it’s slicks for him

And for Lotterer as well

Looks like Raikkonen has gone off somewhere as he finds himself behind Schumacher

But not for long

Barrichello is struggling to pull away from the pack whilst it looks like the rain is not settling on the track

Villenueve is into the pits from 3rd

Slicks for him as well as he re-emerges 8th

And Montoya follows soon after

As does Schumacher

Montoya is back out ahead of Villenueve in 5th

Meanwhile Schumacher is back out in 11th

And now Rubens is in the pits

As is Glock

Barrichello rejoins comfortably in the lead

Meanwhile Schumacher is still stuck down in 11th with most of the drivers ahead having already pitted

OOOOHHHH!!! and Trulli is definitely out of the race!!!

Appears he had the same problem as Verstappen did earlier on in the race

Except he wasn’t as luckily

And unfortunately for Coulthard he is in the wrong place at the wrong time when a stray tyre bounces infront of him, removing his front wing in the process

And Da Matta is challenging Verstappen who has come back through the field with a one stop strategy for 7th

And he makes it

Now that the first round of stops having been completed here are the current standings (Barrichello – 99pts, Montoya – 78pts, Schumacher – 76pts) (Williams – 177pts, Ferrari – 132pts)

McNish is having a look at Heidfeld

And he makes it

And now Da Matta is looking for a way past Heidfeld as well

And the German is defenseless on his old tyres

Just past the halfway mark and Verstappen is into the pits

He’s back out in 13th

And Da Matta is into the pits, is he taking an early gamble on the wets…

Nope, it’s still slicks for the Toyota driver

And Schumacher and Webber have just sailed past Raikkonen very easily there…

…and it appears the Finn has a brake problem! He’ll have to pit

He does make it back but he is now out of the points

Glock has pitted and he has too gone with the slick, the rain is still not heavy enough to convince any of the drivers to go with the wets

But now it’s starting to settle around the track, we could be in for quite a finale

Now Webber and Heidfeld are in the pitlane

Webber rejoins in 10th whilst Heidfeld is back out in 12th

Hmm, that’s very odd as whilst it continues to rain a dry line is appearing in the braking zone for the hairpin…

Now Da Matta is having a look at Glock…

…and the pair almost touch…

…but he makes it

And now whilst it's not usually my style due to my intense hatred of them we'll be taking a short break, but as it stands Barrichello and Williams are on track to take both titles. We'll be back soon.

Chinese Grand Prix Race Broadcast Part 2

And as promised we're back adn we go straight down the track where that dry line has disappeared, can’t be long now before we see drivers going for the wets, this is exactly what Barrichello didn’t want

But still drivers are going with dry tyres as McNish pits

Which promotes Schumacher to 4th, could a late stop make the tyre dilemma easier for the German…

Webber is off the road at turn 1!

He just manages to keep it out of the barrier

And he rejoins just ahead of Raikkonen

It is now properly wet round the final few corners of the lap

As Da Matta is looking to overtake McNish…

And he makes it easily

Montoya and Barrichello continue for another lap on the slicks

And what’s this? Wirdheim has somehow managed to crash in entrance to the pitlane..

It appears Leinders was not anticipating the Swede to pit and runs straight into the back of him, spinning his car in the process…

Whilst on the wet track Wirdheim is just a passenger as he slides into the barriers

Leinders however can continue in 17th

And Schumacher is now into the pits…

And he goes with the slick, but more importantly he’s in 6th which means Barrichello is still in position to take the title

Villenueve pits from third and he too goes with the slick, who’ll be the first onto the wets…

And there is our answer as De La Rosa leaves his pit box

Leinders is alongside Zonta down the back straight…

And he easily outbreaks him

And Schumacher has now dropped to 7th! It’s all going wrong for the German now as the title is slowly slipping out of reach

Meanwhile Zonta on his wets has retaken his position from Leinders with his extra grip down the home straight, but the problem is that one half of the track is completely
drenched, whilst the other is bone dry

And Barrichello has pitted for the wets! Has he jumped the gun or has he just made a great call, we’ll have to wait and see...

He’s back out in 2nd behind his team mate but he’ll have the fast approaching Da Matta for company soon..

And next lap Montoya is in, looks like Williams are playing it safe and concentrating on the constructors championship, consider Ferrari only have Schumacher in the points

And that puts Barrichello back in the lead…

…and Da Matta into 2nd! Now we’ll see whether they should be on slicks or wets

… and even Villenueve has past Montoya as well, have Williams just shot themselves in the foot…

And it appears they might have! Da Matta slicks allows him to fly past Barrichello into the lead! How much of a gap can he pull out…

And now McNish, also on slicks, is alongside Montoya down the back straight…

But he’ll have to wait

But not for long as he overtakes him at turn 8, it appears that slicks are still the way to go...

And Barrichello has lost half a second to Villenueve in the middle second alone…

And Villenueve slicks provide him with acres more traction off the second snail and is alongside…

And Barrichello had no hope of fending him off there

And now Toyota occupying P1 and P2

But Barrichello has more grip off the wet final corner and is looking to regain 2nd place…

But they make contact! Villenueve is thrown into the air! (2 pics)

And the Canadian crashes back down to earth, there’s no way he’ll be continuing…

And whilst that was going on Webber has retired with brake and electrical problems, probably explains why his HUD has messed up…

And now Montoya has spun!

Seems he has just pirouetted off the track in front of Glock

He rejoins in 9th but more importantly this means that neither Williams or Barrichello are in position to take both titles as Schumacher is back in the that golden 5th place

Now Da Matta has pitted from the lead, where will he re-emerge…

Barrichello leads again

Whilst Montoya is promoted to 6th as other pit for the wets

Now McNish is in for the wets as well..

And so is Schumacher, where will he emerge

Da Matta has gotten past Montoya after the Colombians spin

Meanwhile Montoya has gotten back up 3rd after everyone has pitted for wets

And Schumacher is into fourth! Meaning that Barrichello cannot win the title if things stay the way they are, however Williams are in position to take the constructors

So with everyone now on wets let’s have some standings and championship updates (Barrichello – 99pts, Schumacher – 81pts, Montoya – 76pts) (Williams – 175pts, Ferrari – 138pts)

Schumacher looks under pressure with a queue quickly forming behind him

And Glock is first in line to have a crack his fellow German…

Meanwhile their team mates are having it out just behind

And Verstappen gets past Heidfeld

But Schumacher holds Glock off

And now Verstappen is looking to pass Glock…

But he doesn’t make it

Just look at the queue behind Schumacher now…

And Schumacher’s wide at the final corner!!! He’s dropped back to 9th!!!

That mistake means Barrichello can win the title, he’ll be furious with himself there

And now Glock and Verstappen are making a break from the group whilst Schumacher is struggling to stay with Lotterer

And McNish is alongside Heidfeld…

But he cannot get through…

And now Lotterer fancies his chances against the Scot

And he only just avoids contact, no doubt that’ll disappoint Schumacher, he needs a miracle to stay in with a chance of the title

And might this be it!!! Glock and Verstappen are on the grass!!!

And Glock’s spun it! What a shame he was on for a fanatastic result

That puts Schumacher back in the points but he needs to gain another 3 places in as many laps, it’s unlikely but who knows…

Glock meanwhile rejoins 14th

Now McNish is having another go at Heidfeld…

And this time he makes it

Now with just 2 to go Schumacher is just a second behind McNish in fifth, surely it’s too late now

Now Verstappen has gone wide at the final corner…

Which promotes McNish into 4th

But now Barrichello is just a few corners from the end…

And Schumacher is still in 8th, it has to be all over now

And Barrichello is round the final corner…

And he wins the Chinese Grand Prix, we just have to wait for the others now…

But Schumacher is still in 8th…

But his team mate is wide in the final corner on the final lap!

And Lotterer and Schumacher are through!

And it’s going to be a drag race to the line…

And Schumacher snatches 6th right at the end but that won’t be enough, which means Rubens Barrichello is World Champion and Williams are the World Constructors Champions
