ROUND 2 - MALAYSIAN GP - RACE DAYHello and welcome back to Malaysia for round two of the 2004 F1 season. Last time out we watched Jos Verstappen take his maiden F1 win, but with a Williams taking pole for the consecutive race, could we see a different winner today? One thing that is certainly going to add a bit of spice to the race is the weather. We start the race under light rain with more rain predicted later in the race. So let's not waste anymore time and join the commentary team ready for the start of the 2004 Malaysian Grand Prix.
55/55 The lights go out and they're off!! It's the Williams of Juan Pablo Montoya who leads into the first corner. There's action just behind him though as Verstappen runs into the back of Sato sending Sato off at the first corner. He rejoins last. Further around the lap and Verstappen recieves his punishment as he tries to defend against Raikkonen. They make contact and Verstappen spins it while Raikkonen takes the position. Verstappen is now last behind Sato
54/55 Ralf Schumacher passes the impressive Davidson for 8th
53/55 Well this isn't the start Glock was hoping for as he retires yet again for Toyota. It's an oil leak this time around as he retires from 15th
47/55 Raikkonen is on the move as he passes M Schumacher to take 3rd. Wurz is the 2nd retirement of the day as he retires from 15th with an engine failure
45/55 Coulthard makes a silly mistake spinning him off. He was in 6th but finds himself in 20th now
44/55 A look at the top 8 after just over 10 laps
43/55 Jani is the next to make a mistake as he spins off. He's now 19th. A few laps later and he's off again though, demoting him to 20th
38/55 Jenson Button has been struggling all weekend, he spins off from 16th and is now 20th
37/55 PIt stops begin. It looks like Alonso, Villeneuve and R Schumacher are all on two stop strategies
34/55 Jordan's day is getting worse as De La Rosa spins in 16th. He is now 19th
27/55 Sato is forced to make his pit stop early as he has a loose wheel. Troublesome day for the Japanese driver
26/55 Disaster for Williams as Montoya spins off from 3rd. He looks like he's having trouble in the gravel trap as it takes him a decade to get out of it. He's now 20th and has been lapped a staggering 5 times!
25/55 A look at the top 8 after those pitstops
24/55 Well it's another double retirement for Toyota i'm afraid as Massa pulls out of 12th with Engine Failure
23/55 Pizzonia makes a mistake and spins off. He was in 15th but is now 17th
19/55 R Schumacher is eager to gain as much time as possible before pitting as he passes Wilson for 4th
18/55 Drivers on a 2 stop strategy begin their final stops. Verstappen is now battling with Davidson. Verstappen passes him on the back straight but the Brit comes back and repasses the Ferrari. Supurb drama there as we see a Minardi fighting with a Ferrari. But it's not over and heading into the hairpin Verstappen tries a similar move as the one he tried on Raikkonen earlier. But once again it doesn't pay off as Verstappen hits Davidson. Verstappen spins while Davidson runs wide. They don't lose positions just time
17/55 It looks like Verstappen may have picked up a bit of damage after that incident as he spins off. He is now 14th
15/55 It's been another tough day for Panis as he retires from 18th with an engine problem
14/55 Looking out of the commentary box and we can see light drops of rain once again
12/55 A look at the top 8 after those final pit stops. Sato passes Jani but forces Jani wide as he loses a few places from 10th
11/55 Alonso starts his fightback as he passes Barrichello for 4th
10/55 Jani is off again as he moves down to 14th. Sato is on a charge though as he passes Webber for 9th
7/55 Alonso now moves past Wilson to take 3rd. M Schumacher is miles ahead but he can certainly challenge Raikkonen for 2nd. Dissapointment for MInardi as Davidson is unable to hold off the recovering Sato for 8th
6/55 A strong performance from Villeneuve comes to an end as he retires from 11th, resulting in a double retirement for Arrows
5/55 Webber is forced back into the pits from 10th with a loose wheel. He rejoins in 15th. But we have action upfront as Alonso passes Raikkonen to take 2nd! And it's more bad news for Renault as Barrichello passes Wilson to take 4th
1/55 Coulthard passes Davidson with just 1 lap remaining
0/55 M Schumacher brings it home to score another win for the team! However Ferrari may be slightly disapointed as once again only one car scores points

DOTD - Alonso - Hard to choose between him, M Schumacher and Davidson. MS dominated the race once out infront while Davidson nearly secured points for Minardi. But Alonso made a bold choice for the 2 stop strategy and his late moves secured for 2nd against the likes of the impressive Renault team
