i hope geoff reads all posts and gets a little amused about the "wet-dreams" we have -- the source code...
but serious guys, i don´t think with the code we can do too much, or it will take a long time to be able to bring a stable edited gp4.exe.
geoff, for some kind of reason i can understand why you don´t like getting your sim edited (and everybody talking about leeching etc. in that forum should understand this, too).
but it was/is the only way for us to keep gp4 updated and alive (after all this years it is still alive) !
i think geoff, you can admit, with this tools and options we had, we made a good job with modding your simulation. and yes in some ways it was even looking better than the original (e.g. gpxpatch, tweaker).
maybe you can just consider:
will you ever make a successor of gp4 or not ? will it be based on the gpx-series code ? you like to be a bit "more amused" with the mods, or modding ?
i don´t know how much spare time you have, but with a little effort you could bring some tools or editors for changing this or that (like the number of teams and tracks, better physics editing, better flag rules, explanation for missing magic-data values...).
or just to release gp4 as finished as you wanted to have it, without the pressure of infogrames...
if there is a legal-issue, preventing you from releasing something for gp4, we will find a way...
i think after all this years we tried to keep gp4 the jewel of f1-simulations, it should be the time for stopping being sour and try starting a dialog with your fans and bring gp4 to the next level.
the fans, the creator and the simulation deserve that.
matt.
btw: just see over all this "gimme-the-source-code" screams (sorry guys), but i don´t know if many people out there can handle the code without making things worse.
if there are some (got some in my mind...
), maybe there is a way to create some contact between them and geoff...
