I'm using the mesh & textures from Hega's pack. Textures are unmodified and I only added grooves, without changing the number of polygons round the wheel.
When checking how the wet textures were looking on the mesh, I realised the textures were stretched a lot compared to what it looks like on my old mesh

So I scaled the UVs to get something in between the two to get this:

Good news is: if kinda fixed the issue on the slick tyres, here's the comparison without and with grooves for all kind of tyres:
