Hoping to be able to make good use of the GP4 blender plugin, I started to do some modifications on wheels and I might need some help as I don't understand the issue I'm facing.

I'm willing to modify the 2001 tyre & rims set (published by Hega: [www.grandprixgames.org]), to add some grooves.

I didn't have any issue (apart from discovering Blender ^^), until I started the game and noticed some glitchs.

Here's what I have in Blender's 3DView. Seems Ok.

Rendered by blender. Nice.

Imported in GP4builder to check if everything's alright.

Launched the game: have some king of weird stitching in the middle of the groove. It doesn't match any polygon edge, it's in the middle of the faces.

Anyone encountered something similar before ?

If everything looks good both in Blender and in GP4Builder, I would proably put the blame on in-game reflections. I don't know what the alpha channell of the textures you're using looks like, but I would try darkening it in the grooves area.
Also, looking at your pictures, looks like your tread mesh needs vertex welding and/or some normals smoothing (I can see the polygon rows pretty clearly)

I'm using the mesh & textures from Hega's pack. Textures are unmodified and I only added grooves, without changing the number of polygons round the wheel.
When checking how the wet textures were looking on the mesh, I realised the textures were stretched a lot compared to what it looks like on my old mesh

Mesh from Hega's pack.

So I scaled the UVs to get something in between the two to get this:

New Mesh after export

Good news is: if kinda fixed the issue on the slick tyres, here's the comparison without and with grooves for all kind of tyres:

If the UV was stretched, what you were experiencing was definitely a reflection issue.

Looks like you need to stretch it back to Hega's original sizing though, take a look at this picture:

Goddamnit, i've been fooled ! Finally found the reason for the glitch.

The issue comes from the bridgestone slick tyre texture ! It's different from the michelin one and the grooves are not in the same place. Since we can't have separate meshes for the internal view I'll have to modify the brigestone texture so it matches the mesh.

I've redone the textures, here's how it looks like.
(I have yet to smooth the normals on the mesh)

For intermediates, I got inspired by Michelin's "shallow wet" tyres as they have nice grooves that fits the mesh in the middle.

I've done a few tweaks to the mesh (reduced the depth of the grooves) and made a more "flat" shape for michelin.

Also I made a texture for Michelin monsoon tyres.

What do you think ?

I'm quite satisfied by the visual in-game, I'm just wondering if the Michelin wheel shape is too flat ? In a way it's nice because you can really spot the difference between cars when using track side cameras, but on the other hand it feels almost concave when compared to the Bridgestone one.

Here's a full pack containing the modified tyre shapes and matching textures.

Question for Zifox:

Could i get weird results for simply replacing the tex files and placing the gp4 files in the cars.wad?

Or the tex wouldn't work with the 2001 Tyres & Rims from the authors wich you based your work?

What do you mean by weird results ? Which files have you replaced ?
Have you followed the steps in the readme, or are trying to replace only the base wheel shapes only ?

It should, I haven't touched the per team textures. The pack I published contains the 2001 tyres & rims pack.

Thank you for the reply Zifox.:-)

Simply put, what are the main graphical changes in that work?

Tyre threads?

If i want to do it manually and in a handmade way, i will have to choose between wheel_bridgestone.gp4 or wheel_michelin.gp4 for the cockpit view and the rename it with car_wheel_front_cockpit.gp4?
