GPGSL S9 R10 European Grand Prix
QualifyingGood afternoon race fans. After watching the excitement of the F1 qualifying session from Silverstone, it's time for the GPGSL to start their own qualifying for the European Grand Prix here at Donington Park.
We also have similar weather conditions to Silverstone, so anything could happen here and there could be a few disappointed drivers here today.
First out on track is Aston Martin's John Maverick, the spray is already being thrown up by his wet weather tyres.
Maverick naturally sets the fastest lap.
Snake's Jo-Ann Hayes edges her nose in front of the Swiss driver.
Only to be beaten by Max Schieder in his rain MAC (see what I did there?)
Jack Elleker quickly beats that time to take provisional pole.
Van Renselaar puts his One into 4th positon and Maverick is slipping down even further.
MPR's Ed Greenhalgh struggles to 5th place, is the rain getting worse?
Debutant Jason Mathew is slowest so far by a good margin. His inexperience probably a factor here.
Seems the track is getting wetter as Tobi Kederer struggles to 7th place.
But SCR's Joseph Gilson doesn't find the conditions that bad and takes 4th.
Owen Edwards hangs his nadgers out on the wing mirrors and sets a fantastic time for fourth. Dan Mills will be smiling for once on the TNR pitwall.
Gareth McCarthy also hangs out his testes, but his are much bigger than Edwards and he puts his JHR onto the front row.
Eric Moinet is the first out on track form the 2nd group of drivers.
His lap however is 2 secs slower than pole.
VSM's Matteo Scala is also over 2 secs down, the rain must have worsened since the first group did their runs.
That pretty much confirms the worsening weather as Chris Warrington struggles to make an impact on the first 11.
Nobby Horváth slips and slides to 14th.
This has more or less become a separate qualifying session as Carlos Rodríguez finishes his lap in 14th spot.
14th has suddenly become a popular position as now Jake Legge steals it.
Ruben Greidanus breaks with tradition to post 16th fastest time.
Sebastian Nell reluctantly and sullenly takes the wooden spoon.
Michael Pedersen takes the fastest time in this 2nd group.
Ross Cartwright will be disappointed with 17th in his SCR.
More disappointment, this time for Charrel Jalving, 19th place for the Dutchman.
The first group come out again and the weather may be improving as Maverick sets a time that's faster than the 2nd group of drivers. That's got to give them some encouragement.
As the conditions are worse for the first group, there are no improvements.
However, Scala seems to have come out instead of Schieder and manages to improve from 21st to 14th.
Nell is first out for the 2nd group's 2nd runs. He is just over a second down at the 2nd intermediate.
Seb jumps from last to 13th, seems this session has still got some action to come.
Moinet moves up two to 12th, much faster than Pedersen now in 13th.
Greidanus jumps seven places to 13th.
Schieder and Hováth fail to improve, but Legge moves up to the ever popular 14th position.
Warrington takes 13th.
Quickly beaten by Rodríguez.
Pedersen retakes 12th place.
Jalving sets a faster time on his 2nd run, but it's only good enough for 18th.
Last runner, Cartwright moves up from 21st to 13th.
So, that concludes the European Grand Prix qualifying session. Congratulations to Jack Elleker and Aston Martin Racing on their pole position.
Stay tuned for the official results.
