GPGSL Rd12 San Marino GP - Race DayPart 1Finally. Race day has arrived, and we have the cars lining up on the grid after completing their warmup lap. The MPR of Jack Hunsley is on pole position, and next to him is the AMR of Ed Greenhalgh. Other championship contenders are Charrel Jalving in 4th, John Maverick in 8th, and Stefen Van Renselaar the worst off in 17th. Weather reports are showing we are in for yet another dry session. Let's head down to the track, where the director is ready to hit the go button.
Here we go. It's every driver for themselves once the lights go out.
Lights out, and away they go. Hunsley takes the lead.
But he may not get the chance to keep it, as Greenhalgh attempts to pass into Tamburello.
Still side by side on the way up to Villeneuve, with the SCR ready to pounce behind.
Ruben Greidanus looks out of shape, and runs into the Christel of Michael Pedersen.
And puts the Christel into a spin.
The Christel rejoins in 22nd behind the Demon of Jake Legge.
We have a new leader. Greenhalgh has gotten past Hunsley, and most likely at the hairpin.
And already Greenhalgh has a sizable gap back to 2nd place.
Hunsley having to fend off Joseph Gilson.
Gilson going for a pass, while the split shows that Greenhalgh has a 0.3 second lead.
The pass didn't work out for Gilson, as he drops in behind Hunsley.
2nd to 6th through the last corners.
Ed takes fastest lap.
Hunsley at the front of the cars behind him.
Greenhalgh out at the front of the pack, with no one to challenge him.
Hinz has taken to the pits. Did he make contact with someone and break his front wing?
Let's see what happened. Hinz is bunched up with the cars around him into the chicane.
And has a brake lockup.
Which results in a curb jump, sending the MAC car airborne and into the Shadow of Tobias Kederer. This results in a broken front wing for Hinz, and a off for Kederer.
Kederer keeps the car off the wall, and rejoins in 22nd.
Back to the front, as Greenhalgh continues to lead.
While Hunsley remains in 2nd ahead of Gilson in 3rd.
Demon's Somogyi having a good run so far, sitting in 5th ahead of Jalving in the 2nd MPR.
The back end of the field as they negotiate the chicane.
Tobias Kederer down in 21st.
Here's Dominic Brunner as he tries to find a way past the Scuderia Minardi of Scala.
Meanwhile, his teammate is having to hold back the ONE of Van Renselaar.
But locking up his brakes won't help hold the ONE back. Van Renselaar succeeds in passing the Snake.
Greenhalgh sets yet another fastest lap. With a 3 second lead, it's no wonder he can set the fastest lap.
Two battles going on here. Gilson and Elleker, Somogyi and Jalving.
It's very close between Gilson and Elleker.
Likewise Somogyi and Jalving.
But Jalving isn't going to sit behind Somogyi. He attempts a passing move.
But couldn't make it, so drops in behind the Demon.
Another battle. This time between Rodriguez and Scala.
The view from the back of the ONE.
Should there be a incident involving the VSM and ONE, the Snake behind them will have a chance of passing.
No sign of Greenhalgh.
Hinz stuck at the back of the pack.
Placings on Lap 7.
We'll be right back after a short break. So don't go anywhere.
