Yeah, I was wondering if Adrian decided to run away from our team :P
I wasn't entirely sure about the test. Then this was my mistake. My apologies for that. But for the practice session I was absolutely sure and so the corrections are very much appreciated.

2006 Hungarian GP - Qualifying

Q1

It didn't take too long for the spectators at the Hungaroring to witness the first surprise of Saturday's qualifying session as Ralf Schumacher, who's team mate topped Friday's Free Practice session, dropped out of the session in last place whilst Ferrari fans were once again left disappointed by the adventures of Jos Verstappen who could only manage 18th. In addition to Verstappen and Schumacher, we also lost Frentzen 21st, Montoya in 20th, Davidson in 19th and Glock in 17th.

Q2

Q2 failed to produce as many surprises with many of the usual suspects, such as Montagny and Villeneuve, failing to make the cut in 15th and 12th, with the largest scalp of the session arguably being Fernando Alonso who will start tomorrow's Grand Prix from 16th place. In Q2 we also lost Paffett in 14th, Leinders in 13th and Button in 11th. This left both McLarens, both Red Bulls as well as Massa, Lotterer, Heidfeld, Coulthard, Da Matta and Schumacher still with a shot a pole position.

Q3

For the first half of the session, pole position seemed to lie firmly in the hands of Ferrari's Felipe Massa, but, as ever, it was Kimi Raikkonen who rose to the occassion by first bettering Massa's time and then his own to take pole. Massa will start tomorrow's Grand Pric from 2nd on the grid with Andre Lotterer putting in a sterling performance to take 3rd. The rest will line up with Heidfeld in 4th, Coulthard in 5th, Kubica in 6th, Webber in 7th, Da Matta in 8th, Rosberg in 9th and Schumacher in 10th.

Midland

Lotterer proves his worth once again. Great stuff by him.

Frentzen, however, is in danger of premature retirement if he doesn't get his arse in gear.
Red Bull

7th and 9th is the best we can come up with by now. But considering where we stood just a few weeks ago, that is an astonishing result for us. Now we have to hope that we can bring both cars home and into the points, since these would be desperately needed.

GPGSL : Team Owner of 'Maverick Track Performance' (MTP)
What is going on with Montoya? Well, lets hope for good result in the race. Coulthard on the other hand did good again. I'm hopefull.
Toro Rosso
Underwhelmed by Franck's lap, but great result by Nick. Should be a good race from there.
Super Aguri

A average result, hope we can have a better race
Honda
Well, that was disappointing after Anthony's 2nd place in FP.
Williams F1

"Average session for us. Hoping to end the race in TOP 8."

By the way, my phone died two days ago. As far as I'm away from home, I'm offline. Till I get a phone that can go on Internet

My GPGSL Career
Toyota

Not bad from Da Matta for 8th,his race pace has been good this year...Ralf was just awful,Last place is no good..Hopefully he can turn it round in the race with a decent strategy...
McLaren

After our poor performance in the pracitice session I honestly didn't expect such a good result. Hopefully we'll be able to achieve a better race result as in the last GP.

Hello and welcome to coverage of the 2006 Hungarian GP. Yesterday we saw Kimi Raikkonen return to the top of the timesheets in his McLaren and the Finn will hoping to do the business, especially with his team mate down in 6th. Anyway, all five lights are on and we're ready to go

And we’re away!

And immediately Lotterer into 2nd off the line

And by the time we get to turn 1 Coulthard is also through!

But at the front Kimi leads the race

Looks like things have got a bit cosy at the back of the field

A look at the replay shows us Paffett chucking it up the inside of Montagny

Which doesn’t end well for either of them

They rejoin right at the back of the field

Kimi starting to pull away from Lotterer and Coulthard, adding half a second to his lead in the second sector alone

But it’s Coulthard who’s shifting as he sets the fastest lap and lines up an overtake on Lotterer in one swift move

But Lotterer manages to hold him back for now

Further back however, Button is on the move as he pulls a move on Rosberg for 9th

Kimi’s wasting no time in getting away

Here comes Button again, this time on the Red Bull of Mark Webber

But Webber is slightly more resilient than his younger team mate

And on that note, Schumacher overtakes Rosberg to move into 10th

There’s chaos down at turn 3!

A look at replay shows Leinders, Villeneuve and Alonso three abreast

Alonso goes up the inside

Crashes into the side of Leinders

And then into Villeneuve as well. Not a bad days work in all

Whilst Alonso’s busy making enemies, Button’s continuing his advance through the field as he overtakes Webber to move into the points

Back towards the sharp end, Heidfeld’s having a go up the inside of Massa

But his plan backfires as he’s force to get out of the throttle, which allows Da Matta to sweep around the outside

Massa’s starting to develop quite a train behind him, looks like he could be carrying a lot more fuel than those behind

Onboard with Montagny, as Paffett redeems himself for his earlier misdemeanour to move into 18th

Back with Massa and Da Matta, it looks as though Da Matta’s got a run on his fellow Brazilian

But the better traction of Ferrari allows Massa to keep his 4th place

Back in the midfield, Rosberg and Ralf are at it

And they make contact!

Ralf gets away scot free whilst Rosberg is now at the back of the field

Glock and Montoya are bickering over 14th

And it’s Montoya who’s the braver of the two on the brakes

But Glock is trying to come back around the outside

And he makes it stick, impressive stuff from the young German

Back with the battle for fourth, things are starting to get out of hand with 5 drivers now stuck behind Massa’s Ferrari

It seems as though Kubica’s beginning to lose patience and he jumps ahead of Heidfeld in the queue

Is that a McLaren I see in the distance…

It is! It looks as though Kimi picked up a problem as Lotterer takes four seconds out of his lead in sector 2 alone

And he’s forced to pit and the end of the lap, Lotterer now leads!

But whilst we’re watching that there’s chaos at 12 now!

A look at the replay shows us Paffett having a sniff at Frentzen

Before he accidently rams into the back of the Midland and spins

Leaving Montagny with nowhere to go

That’s the end of Montagny’s race

Whilst Paffett’s may as well be over, he’s going to be well off the back of the field once he pits

Back with the Massa train, Da Matta is starting to get desperate as he lines up for a move round the outside of 2

But that doesn’t work, giving Kubica a sniff up the inside

But Da Matta is able to shut the foor just in time

Kimi rejoins right at the back of the field, he really has had some rotten luck at times this year

But it’s unlikely that Lotterer nor Coulthard would really care for Finn’s misfortunes much, with Massa doing a brilliant job of holding everyone up they’re both now well clear of the pack

Looks like one of the William’s has conked out at the final corner

It’s Schumacher who’s the unlucky driver, his luck this season hasn’t been much better

With ten down, let’s take a look at the standings

After fending off Montoya’s advances, Glock is now eyeing up Webber’s 10th place

Easily done

A lap later and it’s Verstappen’s turn

He makes it through as well

And a lap later and Montoya’s through as well, Webber just going backwards

Back with the battle for 3rd, Massa actually looks like he’s starting to pull away from Da Matta, who now also has Kubica for close company

Whilst at the very front, Coulthard and Lotterer are still going toe to toe

Things are getting worse for Webber as he runs wide at 12

Which gifts 13th place to Leinders

The pitstops are now underway as both Glock and Verstappen make their into the pits.

They rejoin 18th and 19th

Massa’s off at the top of the hill!

Which has allowed Da Matta through

A look at the replay shows that it was completely Massa’s fault as he loses the rear at the top of the hill and runs wide

And it doesn’t take long for Da Matta to get away, two laps in clear air and the Toyota is three seconds clear of Massa

But a lap later, he’s into the pits for his first stop of the day

And he’s joined by Heidfeld, and team mate Schumacher. Can they release Da Matta in time…

No! Ralf is forced to wait for his team mate’s stop to finish! Disastrous!

Da Matta’s back out in 11th

With Heidfeld in 14th

Unsurprisingly, Ralf is stone dead last.

Up at the front, Kubica is eager to get past Massa

And they’re side by side on the exit of turn 1

But Massa again is able to get the power down first and get away. Kubica needs to get past the Ferrari sharpish if he wants any chance of staying with Da Matta

Button’s now in from 6th

Whilst Kubica is once again thwarted by Massa

His team mate meanwhile is suffering no such problems as he easily makes his way past Webber for 7th

Button meanwhile is back out just ahead of Heidfeld

Back with the lead, Lotterer’s coming in whilst Coulthard is staying out for one more lap. This could be close

The German is also joined by Kubica and Davidson in the pitlane

Lotterer rejoins in 3rd

Whilst Kubica rejoins in 10th with Davidson 14th

As predicted, Coulthard’s in next time round, has he done enough to jump Lotterer

No! Coulthard comes out of the pits just in time to see Lotterer sail past

And if anything Coulthard’s actually lost time there

But whilst things are going so well for Lotterer, Frentzen looks to be in a world of problems

And he quite sensibly pulls off to the side with a water leak

With all the two stoppers having made their first stops, let’s take a look at the standings

Montoya’s on the move again as he lines one up on Heidfeld

And he makes it stick

And a lap later, Davidson joins him

Kimi’s now in for his second stop if the afternoon. He’ll rejoin 16th

Bad news for BMW as Montoya’s car fails for the third time in four races

Coulthard meanwhile is thriving as he is all over Lotterer’s Midland

But the two make contact!

Lotterer runs wide

Whilst Coulthard’s spun!

Luckily the pair manage to get underway without losing their positions, but they have lost quite a bit of time

The one-stopping Rosberg is still going backwards as Verstappen fancies a crack

And the Ferrari man moves up to 6th

Massa’s now in from the lead

Which puts Lotterer back in front

Webber’s also in now

As is Verstappen

And the Ferrari crew are the quicker of the two, giving the Dutchman the jump on the Red Bull

The last man to pit is Rosberg as he pits from 6th

And he rejoins just ahead of Verstappen in 12th

Webber’s spun!

He’s lost it at the top of the hill

Luckily however there’s no obvious damage and he gets underway in 16th

Looks as though there’s yet another ill car on track

Which play beautifully into the hands of Massa as it allows him to pull away from Heidfeld and Kubica

Meanwhile it’s Davidson’s car which is slowly dying on him

Verstappen’s having a go at Rosberg’s 12th place

And he makes it work

On the main straight, being held up by Davidson has given Kubica a run on Heidfeld

And he’s through as well

And just two laps later he’s already caught up to Da Matta

But that Toyota’s has a tad more traction than Heidfeld’s Toro Rosso

Back with the battle for the lead, Lotterer and Coulthard are once again inseparable

And Kubica’s spun it now!

On the replay we can see the Pole lining up Da Matta for a move

But it all goes horribly wrong when the Brazilian shuts the door

Da Matta’s able to rejoin with his third place intact

Whilst Kubica’s loses a place to Heidfeld and drops back one spot to 5th

Lotterer’s in for his final stop as Coulthard again decides to stay out another lap

And he’s joined by Kubica

Lotterer’s out in 4th

Whilst Kubica’s back out in 11th

And Coulthard does indeed pit next lap, has he done enough this time

He has! Coulthard’s already at turn 1 as Lotterer flies under the bridge!

Whilst things get worse for Lotterer as Raikkonen overtakes him under braking for turn 1

Leinders is now in in the sole remaining Honda

And he’s also joined by Button who pits from the lead

Which puts Coulthard into the lead of the Grand Prix

Button’s back out in 7th

Whilst Leinder’s will rejoin in 15th

Raikkonen’s now in from 2nd

As is Heidfeld

Kimi rejoins in 9th

With Heidfeld just behind in 10th

It’s clear to see now just how much pace Coulthard’s had in hand this race, his gap back to Lotterer is about the break the four second mark

Leinders is up the inside into turn 1

And they’re still side by side on the run down to 2

But Webber’s not giving up that easily as he’s the braver of the two on the brakes

But it’s all in vain as Leinders powers round the outside! Great move from the Belgian there

Now with everyone having made their final stops, let’s take one last look at the standings

Coulthard’s now well onto his way to taking his first victory in over four years

Kimi’s still not done yet as he’s the latest driver to get a run on Rosberg

And he’s through, it’s been a very impressive drive today from the Finn

His team mate is also looking to get on the move as he challenges Button

The two are side by side through 1

But Button manages to keep the McLaren at bay

And whilst those tow are fighting, Kimi is catching at quite a rate

A lap later, it’s clear to see that Kimi is getting closer

But once again Kubica rams into the car in front and spins! Seems the pressure was too much for him

Button just manages to rejoin ahead of Kimi

Whilst Kubica’s now 10th and out of the points

There’s a bit of Toro Rosso on Red Bull action as Heidfeld lobs one down the inside of Rosberg

Easy move in the end

And two laps later, Rosberg also drops behind Villeneuve and out of the points, looks like the one stop startergy was not the way to go today

Meanwhile, Kimi’s managed to do what Kubica couldn't, overtake Button cleanly

Three to go now, and with little action left on track the end is in sight for Coulthard

One to go now

And Coulthard wins the Hungarian GP, great job from the Brit but we have yellow flags out on track

And it’s Massa! The one stop was definitely not the way to go as his Ferrari runs out of fuel just two corners from the end!

Lotterer meanwhile does come home second

Da Matta inherits 3rd

Kimi’s 4th

Button just holds off Heidfeld to come home 5th

Heidfeld’s 6th

Villeneuve picks up two points in 7th

Whilst Kubica’s now 8th?

And that will explain why, Rosberg's been forced to coast round the final lap, pulling off just two corners after crossing the line with an empty tank

Toro Rosso
A really exciting race, with action from back to front and start to finish. Great coverage by the race director. Bitterly disappointed with Franck's accident, but it's always a possibility when you doing get it right in qualifying. Nick drive a solid rave to pick up points, and the pave of the car was probably a bit better than we were able to show after being held up by Massa in the first stint.
Red Bull

Without words. Marc should have been more experienced that this and should have known that cold tyres have to be treated carefully. And Nico...he already drove in fuel saving mode! What do you think why he was so slow? Nonetheless it was in and out of the points all the time. The one stop strategy didn't work here, but when two teams, Ferrari and us, have cars running out of fuel, then something clearly went wrong there with the track or the tyres.
To conclude, a disastrous weekend for us.

Honda
Seems like new parts completely failed. What a shame.

PS: What's the version of this Hungaroring Track? 2006?
Midland

Another fantastic result from Lotterer. We're giving Frentzen one last chance to prove himself. If he fails to impress, he will be forced to look for a drive elsewhere.
Renault F1 Team

Great result from Button, unfortunately we can't say the same for Alonso.

DOTD

Diver of the day unsurprisingly goes to Daivd Coulthard for winning his first race since the 2002 Monaco GP.

You've got to be kidding me .... losing a podium over a few tenths of liters of fuel.
Unsatisfying race to say the least.

*I suggest this track to be checked to disable further 'fuel events' if it's going to be used again. Two cars DNF'ing because of fuel is quite a lot.

If you are racing, keep on racing and get some points!
