In my mind the Lotus Renault livery does look nicer - than it did in the renders - a) on the new car and b) with the golden trim slightly thicker. I may still come to *like* it over the course of the season but as chet said (and I've said before too) it's not patch on last year's and to further what chet said - you don't need a string of rFactor nostalgia skins to tell you that many liveries from the 80s and 90s simply won't work when applied almost directly onto modern F1 cars. It's especially frustrating given the scenario behind this particular livery's creation...

One thing though that surprises me between the renders, livery unveiling and now today - I thought LADA was out o' here (Renault can advertise LADA because it owns it, why would Lotus Group want to advertise LADAs?) while all the renders so far have had SNORAS Bank where the GЭИII logo now is. Has SNORAS abandoned the team?

Lotus Renault is simply Renault, Group Lotus just sponsor it. Just like Vodafone McLaren. Group Lotus don't actually own the team. So Renault can still advertise with Lada (which IIRC is also a sponsor of Petrov).

Pic is now on the Merc GP website, so it's definitely it, but it's also a 2010 front wing, like Ferrari they must be hiding a few things, or still working on it

No, you're right, though I thought with Renault not actually owning the team now and Group Lotus (I thought) having a controlling share - or am I confusing that with Marussia and Virgin? Never mind, I didn't think at the time that LADA were brought to the team by Petrov himself (though it'd make sense why LADA never appeared on Kubica's clothing) but with their logo missing from the car until now, even after Petrov was re-signed, I just thought that, given the (possible) potential for conflict of interest between Proton and AvtoVAZ, LADA would not re-appear.
*shrugs*
I was wrong.
I quite like seeing LADA appear on an F1 car so what the hey!

Snoras never sponsored the team, they were only there as a part of debt payments if I remember correctly.

Sauber to have Jose Cuervo (Owned by Diageo) on their cars this year. Will be awkward in Turkey when McLaren and Sauber turn up with Diageo on their cars :s

Genii have the controlling share in Renault, and GL have about a 20-30 % stake. Not sure on the correct value.

So tomorrow, we have Team Lotus, Renault and Sauber I believe. Sweet.

It won't be Lotus anything soon, 'cause I'm fairly sure Gascoigne's Lotus will win the court case. Then you'll see the Lotus sponsors on the Renault turn into Proton instead. I don't really see it going any other way since Gascoigne bought the license off David Hunt, they already have the name, you can't have two teams called Lotus just because the other one has road cars by the same name.

If an oil baron from Qatar bought an F1 team and tried to call it Mercedes after his dog, he would get told to go @#$%& himself. It's a bit of a shaky comparison, but it stands to reason.

It's me or does that Mercedes looks slightly like a BMW F1.09?

I can't see it go another way either. The question in the court case is whether Proton have rightfully terminated the contract (I believe David Hunt had some ties to Group Lotus, so that's where Proton come in) with Fernandes. I think not.

If you're literally meaning the front wing itself, then fair dos, but the nose is much higher and a different shape.

Yeah just the front wing, the nose is very different

Love the high nose on the Ferrari, probably my favourite Ferrari since 08

The Mercedes looks awesome too, looking forward to the actual full unveiling of the car

It took them a couple of years to get the look completely right but I think this year's cars are going to look brilliant!

Yeah, It's something similar to what happened in 1983 when they banned th ground effect. The cars looked odd, but eventually people got used to them. The same applies for 2009-spec front and rear wings.

Also, I think that the narrower front tyres made them look a bit better.

I'm glad about the 2009 changes. The cars' aero has been cleaned up nicely, it had become ridiculously complicated. They did look a bit strange to begin with, but I easily prefer them now.

Yeah, here's a comparison...

Although, I do still love that Sauber.
