Lotus back next year....whut

Nobody compared Damon to Schumacher parking at Monaco, or trying to take out a rival. But Damon was very vocal about his disapproval of team orders, especially with Irvine and Schumacher at Ferrari. Yet when it suited him he was perfectly happy to suggest the same thing.

If Eddie Jordan had suggested it then that is one thing. But for a man who was supposedly anti-team orders to suggest it is a whole other game. Damon wasn't anti-team orders. He was anti-whatever didn't favour him.

You will undoubtedly enjoy this little article if you have not read it previously:

To be honest, for me, Belgium '98 doesn't sour my view of Hill. It was quite a bit different from the normal situation where team-orders apply, the situations where Hill complained about them, and I'm not sure if I'd be happy comparing the situations of Belgium '98 with the likes of the Schu-Irvine arrangement. Of course foremost in his mind was his winning the race, and you'd have to be naieve to think that he was really thinking of the team as a whole. All the same though, it's very likely that team-orders did everyone a favour that day, except Jean Alesi. Far worse is the hinted bitterness that you come across now and then from Hill that team-orders were not applied at Williams in 1995, when Hill did nothing to deserve such a service.

I'm aware of this, but I made the comparison. But in hindsight, you have to admit that there are worse things out there than going on the radio and suggesting to your team that 16 points is better than 0 points.

If you were a team owner and one of your leading drivers came on the radio and suggested that, you would agree and impose the order. Damon did what anyone of us would have done. Your in the sport to win. Morals don't come into the equation when your in the lead, much as Schumacher has displayed.

Think what's bad about it is the hypocrisy of telling the team to stop Ralf, while he was very vocal about Team Orders

Thanks for that video by the way, never seen all the radio broadcasts before

No, I disagree. That isn't what any one of us would have done, and it isn't even how most drivers would have done it.

Morals don't come into the equation when your in the lead, much as Schumacher has displayed.

Disagree again. The final lap of the NASCAR race this week was a perfect example of drivers using morals over winning at all costs.

If Damon felt so strongly about the 1-2 for the team, why then not let Ralfie boy pass him if he tried an overtaking maneuver? Damon could have simply not closed the door or blocked him and they'd still have a 1-2, but then that wouldn't suit him (Damon).

Ralf had some very great races but was too inconsistent and disappeared even before his big shunt in 2004. It must also be tough to get team support when you're an arrogant douche to everyone everywhere. Cora/Corinna(Corona even) obviously is the man of the house and Ralf gets his frustration out by playing Mr. Too Good for Everyone else outside his home!

And that's where you've got to stop talking. ;) In Damon's mind by far and away it was a Hill victory first, a Jordan 1-2 was merely a nice after-thought

Opposite views about Ralf me and you Gui :p

Thats why I liked him, because I didnt really see the, "Im better than you" the way I saw it with big brother Schumacher during those times.

"Trulli was slowing down like he wanted to have a picnic" LOL

That's fair, I guess it's just down to a matter of opinion. Some would, some wouldn't. I'm not arguing Damon is perfect, no racing driver is. I personally enjoyed the 98 race for the fact Jordan scored a 1-2. Nothing more, nothing less. I am a fan of Hill and loved watching him win, I'm glad it happened.

I did find it funny though that Michael had a go at EJ afterwards for not allowing his brother to win lol was a good little spat there!

Chet, Ralf was the unapproachable one who was rude to people. Michael was the one who actually won stuff but he at least played the humble card well when the media was around.

As Massa once joked, and he's a good friend of MS, Ralf is so arrogant that not even his family likes him ;).

Damon showed his true character a lot in 1998 - he pissed the Jordan team off even before Imola, annoyed Johnny Herbert by running into him in the Argentinian GP and drove shockingly badly against MS at Montreal, even before his Spa hypocrisy.

Yeah and the swerving he did in Canada was a bit overly aggressive too. I still like the guy though, no Nigel Mansell, but he was a good driver in my opinion.

Yeah. I know someone whos applying.

It's quite funny really. They don't even have the top positions filled yet. Nevermind getting onto filling the bottom slots. How they are intending on running a team off of that I have no idea.

Jarno Trulli could be a driver target for Lotus. He's worked with Gascyone before, and Mike hinted that the team would be trying to sign "drivers with reputation" for their first race squad.

He could be a target, but he has never been good in cars that aren't at their optimum level.

I think he might end up retiring at the end of the year if he doesn't stay with Toyota.

Bruno sent his CV there, hopefully something good happens!
Gonna have a look myself, I speak 5 languages, 3 of which I'm fully fluent. Won't hurt to try :P.
