If they changed that pink to a red, that would be a beautiful car!

If they changed that pink to a red, that would be a colombian car!

From that autosport article: Update: Alex Yoong yesterday referred to the car as ‘project raibow’ on Twitter. Is this paint scheme serious?

Guess someone's bitter about not getting the drive.....

But otherwise, like I said, it's Lotus in name only, seems to have virtually 0 connection to the car company, they're trying to prey on nostalgia, and that tactic will only be good for 1 season.

Thing with Mike is that he's been whilst part of Jordan he gave them their most successful season and nearly won a championship, though they dropped back in 2000.

A common misconception. He didn't design the car. He tacked some bits onto the previous one (Gary Andersons iirc) and then rode the coat tails of that design for the next 10 years. Funnily enough, Jordans most competitive season wasn't really due to Jordan being great, but rather everyone else being rubbish. Irvine spent half the year having to suck up to Schumacher, so had his title chances crippled. Schumacher broke his leg and was literally crippled for half the year. Coulthard was out classed by Hakkinen. Hakkinen spent the year trying to give away the title. Jordans best season was only because everyone else had a rubbish season. So Mikes design that he didn't design wasn't even that impressive anyway.

A summary of Mikes career from another forum:

He's had 7 different posts (8 if you count the FI rename):
Mclaren - A wind-tunnel worker who 'Left' after one year to join...
...Tyrrell - Was taken with Postlethwaite after one year to...
...Sauber and 'left' after one year to return back to...
...Tyrrell - Stayed with the team as it decayed and died before being fired when BAR stepped. He was responsible for the mono nose wing and other diabolical innovations... that basically involved sticking mini wings on in various places. Next he headed for...
...Jordan - After resting on Anderson's 99 Jordan, a masterpiece, he designed the 00 challenger that, along with EJ's mismanagement killed them before 'leaving' for...
...Renault - In their biggest slump in a long time Gascoyne didn't do much to help. He was placed on 'gardening leave' for 2003 after which their results started to pick up until that famous first victory in 2003. Renault won their first title in 2005, Mike went to...
...Toyota - A team to whom design and micromanage mean the same thing. He designed their unimpressive 04 and 05 cars taking a step backwards from their 03 form before being sacked and heading for...
...Spyker - Oh dear. So Spyker left before they could sack him and he did a great job of rehashing the old Jordan he'd mutilated so many years before. They then became...
...Force India - Who weren't slow in sacking him.

As I said before - he has slowly made his way to the back of the grid, and now even the back of the grid won't give him a job so he is having to create his own teams to get a job. That should be enough for anyone to call him crap. He has produced exactly 0 decent cars.

Don't know what you mean about Renault being in a slump, they met their expectations in 2002 and the car was a podium contender at the beginning of 2003 before it contended for win at the end of 2003. Plus 2005 was Toyota's best year in F1 to date, so not sure what you mean on a step back in form because 2003 for Toyota wasn't impressive

2002 car scored 23 points. Hardly brilliant. Mike was on gardening leave and then suddenly the car got good.

Toyota just wasn't impressive full stop. One minor upwards blip in the trend doesn't do anything for it. Massive budget and almost unlimited resources and the result was one good season before leaving to continue to taping wings onto his old Jordan chassis for a few years.

It is no co-incidence that Gascoyne was sacked from Force India and then the very next season they produced the first different car for a good 3 or 4 years, and not only that - it is bloody good too.

Mike needs to take the hint.

Well, Gascoigne has to design the car now, from the ground up, so it'll be a real test of just how talented he REALLY is.

Haha Mike Gascoyne, oh lawl! Yeah, don't get carried away with Gascoyne's glorious 199, it was effectively Gary Anderson's car....

How competitive can any of these new teams really be? I would seriously fear for all of these new teams, maybe with the exception of Team America (@#$%& yeah!) who'll probably get a bit of hype going about themselves if they do things right...

I'm forced to think anyone with Cosworth engines will be doomed.

hard to say.

Campos we've not heard much about them, especially in terms of staff and funding, but then dallara are building the car.

Manor, seem to have got themselves some decent backing with Virgin, and nick wirth's designed F1 cars in the past. ok they weren't world beaters but they weren't completely useless either. if i remember right he's been involved in the Acura LMP program recently.

USF1, again seem to have cash but don't appear have the experience, though then they seem to taking a different approach running a team to the others. also, they've had the biggest head start.

Lotus, pretty much as has been said on here, very little startup time, and pinning their hopes on Mr G to deliver something could well backfire.

but as others have said, a lot hinges on what the Cosworth engine is like

Pah we wont agree.

Whilst at Renault he did complete most of the design work for that 03 car, and though I would put the win down due to the tyres and michelins contribution to the suspension. The 2002 adn 2003 cars were massive improvments after the transition to Renault.

As for Toyota, he joined the team at a time when most design work for 04 had been done, and so he little influence, he then designed the 05 car which if you look on F1.com scored points points in all but two races, one being the USGP. 4th in the WCC? Not impressive?

I'd like to see anyone else spend 20 years in the sport, and become technial director of several teams for helping produce 'junk' cars.

This lotus team should snap up Pat!!!

edit - like to add. If that model is genuine then they should be denied entry for making little kids cry because of the shear fuglyness of that car!!!!!

Also, a representative livery on a 3/4 model car?? Great first impressions. Almost as good as USF1!

"Trulli was slowing down like he wanted to have a picnic" LOL

They'll probably reach a compromise and add a disclaimer on the garage doors: "CAUTION, contents may cause temporary blindness or nausea."
