You want funny? Read his comments and expectations on BBC!

He's not top notch, he'd be cheap, experienced and clever.

Also, I think the main reasoning for the Lotus name is because its marketable. Besides that the Malaysian company in question does own Lotus cars anyway, so whereas Litespeed and Mike needed clarification from the Malaysian government, I think this entry IS the Malaysian government or whatever.

edit - Dave, if a young driver is looking for an F1 drive, and gets offered one I doubt the first thing on his mind will be Mike tbh.

Reality check? Its a new F1 team. They wont be expecting wins or points and probably not even top 10s, even if they had a Newey/Brawn combo. I think they'll have a pretty good idea on reality.

The only reality check they will have is the morning pinch to make sure driving in F1 is not a dream ;-)!

edit - Just to mention, its not like Mike is alone...

Dave, you and I seem to be in accord over a fair number of points recently. WTF is going on? :s

I think it's good that there will be some shite teams. I missed the days when you had Minardi, Tyrrel and Arrows to some extent who were constantly at the back and you would cheer for them when they finally had their day!

Yes, those are the only things they'll add really. I don't expect them to be even slightly competitive ;)

Except in wet or wet-dry races! Then they might surprise a lot of people, particularly if they're being driven by Petrov, Senna, di Grassi etc.

Epic description, totally agreed. Chapman cared about building cars that could go quick enough to win races, and not much else.

If his Spyker and Force India efforts are anything to go by, then yes. The fact that the only performances from those cars that seemed impressive were down to a combination of the driver and wet/changeable weather conditions says it all.

He loves adding wings upon wings... this fits for basically anything, the more you add to something the more chances you have of making it go wrong. If for 2010 there are more strict rules regarding the pseudo-bardge boards, mirrors working as aero devices and perhaps a limitation on the amount of front wing parts then the new teams theoretically should benefit.

But if Chapman is a cunt for not caring about driver safety, then Enzo Ferrari is more or less also, I remember an interview with him saying he is sitting ready every race with a red pencil for when he gets a phone call a driver of him is killed to stripe that driver off the list.

You won't be getting jack with Gascoyne. The car will be junk, even compared to the back of the grid. Mike on a monumental budget couldn't do anything, whats he doing to do with less?

Look at Mikes career. He started off in good teams, slowly made his way to the back of the grid after being fired by pretty much everyone, and then the back of the grid sacked him and he has had to create his own team just to get work.

This team is doomed from the start.

One thing that caught my attention on the BBC's highlights-of-yesteryear thing for Monza is how, in the 1990 highlights, 26 cars got through the Rettifilio without so much as touching - do you think that could happen next year?

Thing with Mike is that he's been whilst part of Jordan he gave them their most successful season and nearly won a championship, though they dropped back in 2000. He was not sacked from Jordan, he left for Benetton/Renault and saw a huge improvement in 02, and 03 but then was put on gardening leave for reasons unknown to us. With Toyota it was obvious he had the same issues Geoff had with Honda, decision making time, and a lack of influence. However he did bring them their most successful season, like with Jordan, but was later sacked due what Toyota said were disagreements with others in the team I think! Then the whole Spyker thing just went to shite. His salary at Toyota was a joke, but the team are a joke if they wanted to pay him that much.

Im not saying he is a saviour for new teams, just that his experience will be useful and you can not deny that.

He spent a long time in motor racing, just under 20 years. If he was that bad he would not have lasted that long. If he was that bad he would have been technical director of several teams. He played a role in the success Jordan, early success of Renault, and also Toyota. Just how much we dont know. But like I said, I dont think a great deal of him, but you dont survive 20 years in the top-flight without knowing a thing or two, you dont become technical director of 3 teams thanks to chance/luck or because you build "junk" cars.

Your judging a teams future down to one man. I think theres alot more to it than that ;-)!

Ross Brawn changed the future of a team for good, him, not Jenson not Barrichello and not Fry

I'd add Fry along with that ;-)! And perhaps the hundreds of people, and £ which designed the BGP001, and also Mercedes.

Ross himself says everything was there for the team to win. It was not Brawn alone which has allowed the team to be so successful. The whole team is generally pretty good. Success is never down to one man.

the resources where there, the drivers and everything, but he made the good use of them, the team hasn't changed much since it was HONDA F1, i doubt hadn't Ross Brawn been there it would've been as succesfull

During the announcement they showed a possible livery:

Looks like someone vandalized with it or some gay support thing.

If they changed that pink to a red, that would be a beautiful car!

I know I've got strange tastes, but I love colour and it reminds me of Yamamoto's helmet, which I like so much I considered getting something similar myself:
