I agree they were unlikely to make the same mistake under a green-flag stop, and as such it did cost him the title in a roundabout kinda way, but the fact remains that it's Ferrari who blew the race, not Piquet.

Massa had a few good races in 2008 (Hungaroring was great...despite the engine, Valencia...) but he also had a few crap races (Japan, Sepang, Melbourne) so the champinship was lost much before. It is childish to complain about that.
I could agree that the result may have been another one in Singapore, no doubt, but that fact did not decide the champ. It would if Lewis and Massa had 120 points at the end showing consistency, etc...but with such a messy champ I don't think Massa can claim that event was the key.
