i can understand them taking an American and Spanish team from a commercial point of view, as these teams should gain some support in these places.

however, they really need a US GP, or at least a Canadian GP so the fans in the USA can get to a race and support 'their' team

Phwoar, I think the Manor car will look gorgeous! This is their F3 car...

But yes, I was very surprised, if a little disappointed, about the new teams chosen. But, the more I think about it, the more I'm looking forward to it. I'm glad USF1 made it. Very disappointed Epsilon Euskadi didn't get a spot.

I'm still not convinced Toro Rosso will be on the grid next year. And mark my words, if they withdraw then Dave Richards will pounce on their assets, resources and facilities faster than you can say "sold".

Don't rule ProDrive out yet. :)

Two obvious choices and one wildcard. I like it. But, as Lopper says, I would love to see published justification for these choices.

Wow, what fantastic impartiality by Max there... ;)
@Chet, thanks, now it becomes clearer....

After having read what Gui wrote and Locke Cole's thoughts on Dave Richards buying STR, I hope that DOES happen and it irritates Max to no end.

@Schueyfan, I think it's the other way round, now that there's an American team, it makes a US GP a bit more viable commercially.

Ah yes, Guilherme Cramer, that famous motorsport journalist with all those inside contacts.

From what I can gather Ferrari are listed by the FIA as an unconditional entry. But if this is the case, what exactly have they supposedly signed up for? They submitted a conditional entry; so, does that mean they are supposedly racing under the cap or not in 2010? Kind of confusing working out exactly how their unconditional entry would work in theory, as I'm not sure their conditional entry specified they were going to run with the cap or not, but rather they would run if FOTA's rules were adopted.

Yeah, thanks to the FIA and their infinite "wisdom" we have NO North American GP to find out, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Canadian GP back in the next season.

guys, don't know how true or false is this, but one of my best's friends brother is a hardcore car designer and knows a lot of people in italy, he told my friend that apparently Ferrari are very serious about leaving the sport, and that pissed Mosley a lot and that's why he singed them as unconditional, Ferrari are looking on ways to get out of the contract that keeps them tied with F1, and if the breakaway series is created, Ferrari could end up racing a non-official team, something just to keep with the contract, they might not even race but attend the races
i know it sounds crazy and that's why i don't really believe it's 100% true, but tbh this whole thing is crazy!

And unless your mate's best friends brothers cats vet (know knows a lot of people in italy) is a director in Ferrari, then I doubt he knows more than any of us. Those on the floor, doing the day-to-day motorsport stuff, won't know anything. :P

Ferrari are right to stand tall atm.

In the past i probably said Ferrari are not F1, and we could live without, and I would still be right.

But Ferrari not in F1 would be a HUGE loss and very painful for the sport and undoubtably will end in a sport that is not as complete.

Come Friday everything will be sorted, and we will see Ferrari and the others in F1. I think FOTA should now push to out Mosley and sort Bernie out!

Then again, in a way I hope it's not sorted, the prospect (whether its high or not) of seeing a full proper Ferrari factory effort at lemans would the best thing since sliced bread imo!

Lol I find it somehow funny that Mosley said they asked for all documents from new teams for desiding wich teams are most ready ones for F1, but still Lola and Prodrive are not in.

Prodrive had in their future plans to make their cars to be real Aston Martins including engines. In my opinion they were most serious racing team of all these newbies.

Lola was even already testing their own car in wind tunnel. [www.autosport.com]

But instead they take in some nobodys who dont most propably even have needed knowledge and will most propably use some crappy Cosworth engines throught their whole short visit in F1.

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

I dunno, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I mean sure Campos and Manor have plenty experience in racing and working with champs, but they won't have the same draw or clout that Lola and Prodrive would have. Lola and Prodrive would immediately had fanbases, and they've had plenty of success in various fields - They're big names in motorsport. I really would love to see how they justified this one. My choice would have been Lola, Prodrive and USF1 anyways.

Really that provisional entry list was great surprise to all of us (and some FOTA teams). But not to have Lola and Prodrive on it is another nonsense by FIA. By me that two teams have best chance to build their cars without support of some manifacture team. I excepted Lola, Prodrive and USGP, because first two are the most serious racing names and can make in (today complicated) F1 and USGP because , we all know thy not maybe deserve it by some standards but because they will bring new fans and big market to F1 (and possibly soon return of USA grand prix).

Even situation is far from over, and I'm really have enough of constant roole changes by FIA and some nonsense from year to year (sometimes race to race) really would see some thrue top open wheel series with FOTA teams and some of those new aplicant for remaining slots for F1 that didnt selected by FIA for F1 in 2010 like Prodrive, Lola, Epsilon Euskadi, with some new names. By that I dont want dead F1 because it seems to repidley going for seldestruction, just want some great championship with great racing teams like manifacture ones like good private ones. Love that happen with F1 (because F1 deserve that but with this 'dictator stance' governence I cant see happen that). Sadly...

Commercial. That's the only reason for 2 of the teams.

How the hell Manor got in there I've got no idea. No motorsport heritage anywhere near the top, no real facilities to speak of and no commercial links that we're aware of. They've probably got half of the old Prost cars sat away in a hanger somewhere and just claimed they've got a car ready. They're not Phoenix F1 with a new name, are they? :P

It really is a shame that it comes down to who will impress Bernie with the biggest motorhome and can draw the biggest names from their country when successful and genuine racing companies, the very foundation on which the sport is based, are overlooked.
