BMW Pit Lane Park in Manchester (UK)

BMW's Pit lane park is to come to the Trafford Centre in Manchester for it's first visit to UK shores as a build up to the GP at Silverstone.

It will be there from the 4th to the 6th of July. The only downside (well for me anyway) is that the driver of the BMW Sauber F1 Team car (doesn't state what year this car will be from) will be Augusto Farfus.

For more details look to F1 Live (link below)

So who's going then ?!!

i might go, it's in the car park of the Trafford Centre and it's free. a work friend of mine went there shopping on saturday and said there was (to quote her) "some sort of blue and white racing car, i think it was a BMW, with lots of people standing around looking at it" inside the centre.

just got home from the event, it was pretty good, and a bonus that it was free. apart from the main attraction of the F1 car (which only runs 5 times in the day, every couple of hours, and only for about 1 min 20 seconds), there were many other exhibits and interactive things to keep you occupied.

and Vicki Butler Henderson and her brother, Charlie, were the announcers, talking to the crowds, giving stats and facts in between the car runs. we saw some young guy Marcus Ericsson drive a Formula BMW car, and also compete in a remote control car race, and then the final thing was the F1 car running, driven by Augusto Farfus, but disappointingly it only ran for about 80 seconds.

here are a some cropped pics, i'll try to upload the videos over the weekend:

VBH:

Ericsson getting strapped in:

doing a donut with the steering wheel detached (the black horizontal lines are on a protective plastic screen in front of me):

chatting to VBH:

the track from one of the ends, the other end has a grandstand:

one of the pitstop challenge cars:

an acrylic car where you can practice refueling the car, the display shows how many litres an F1 rig puts into the car compared with a standard fuel pump:

Nick's helmet and HANS device:

some random guy and his kid having a photo with some "beautiful" girls:

Ericsson and Farfus chilling:

the car those promo girls were standing by. we're F1 geeks so we obviously don't want the photo to have the girls in it ;):

Farfus and VBH:

Pit stand with headphones that you could listen to, hearing the transmissions between engineers and drivers:

PitStop challenge:

simulators with Live for Speed:

if you can make it go along, it's a bit of fun. we spent about 2 and a half hours there looking at stuff. it took long enough to even find the car park it's situated in, as the Trafford Centre is massive.

i don't think it was even an F1 car, it looked too small. i think it's an old lower formula car, i don't know which one though.

it's the 2002 Jordan Honda... one wonders how BMW got their hands on that! I couldn't make it in the end as had a wedding to go to and rehearse for, so hopefully it'll come back again

I'm fairly sure it's not: [commons.wikimedia.org]

I agree, the front wing supports and sidepod openings are identical to the EJ12 but the rest is a lot different. If anything I'd say it's a pick 'n' mix of F1 car designs made into a show model just for the Pit Lane Park.

not convinced by the rear wing but everything else looks the same. I thought it could have been the sauber c20 (thinking of front wing in gp4) but im clearly wrong

yeah, different rear wing. But wings change throughout the season. It IS that car, just some of the ancillarys have been changed by bmw.
