Personally I'd prefer Adelaide, but we can't all have what we wan't I guess so glad it's looking like Melbourne and not somewhere else dodgy.

Well lets face it, us Sydney-siders would've ruined the race with a dodgy refurb of Eastern Creek or an even worse Street circuit!

Well I guess this means 2 things either they offered Bernie more money or they will have it run at night.

Glad the race is staying in Australia. We've lost too many good F1 venues to these shitty Tilke tracks Bernie loves now....

That's good news. I like the Grand Prix in Melbourne, and I don't mind getting up in the middle of the night for it either, especially since it's the season opener :)

Ah, well...ok I guess...though I'd have preferred it to continue on the same time as before, as that meant staying awake only till 1:30 am. Now, it'll probably be a bit later, but wth.

Come again? Anyway, it's not official. Negotiations are continuing on a new deal.

"Amid the delicate negotiations for a new Grand Prix contract, Melbourne's F1 race has lost the support of its local council.

City of Port Phillip mayor Janet Cribbes on Wednesday called on the state Victorian government to scrap the event.

"After 14 years, residents have had more than enough," she said in a statement.

"Why should they have to suffer the noise and the inconvenience of a car race in a park for a race whose public price tag blew out to $41.
3 million last year?"

She also said the annual race "does not benefit Victoria" or the country and "doesn't stack up on economic, social or environmental grounds."

Melbourne began hosting the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in 1996."

Who put a woman in a position where she makes decisions about Formula 1s future? She clearly has no interest in the sport and that's obviously all it comes down to.

If memory serves, the same reservations were made about the races in Long Beach and Detroit in the US, and they were far more popular than protesters were trying to make out. The race in Adelaide was a boon for the city as it was about the only thing to liven the place up all year. They don't call it the City of Churches for no reason ya know. ;-) Melbourne has a place on the F1 calendar for the foreseeable future, but I can see Australia losing it if a) it can't be held later in the day (and on a better circuit, I vote Phillip Island) for European viewers, and b) Bernie stops approving more races in countries closer to or in Europe!

Aye!

You can't tell me that my hard earned that I spent in numerous restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and in my hotel, together with the cash from the seemingly thousands of people wandering the streets of Melbourne in newly purchased Ferrari caps didn't benefit someone.

its a shite track but somehow always produces a good race. With the new regulations I suspect it could be a little better. Besides now it seems like home of the opener... Its only natural that it should be there. kinda like how Suzuka was the finale.
