Monaco GP Thread **SPOILERS**

The Monaco GP is upon us, and activities on track will start tomorrow (Thursday) instead of the usual Friday. The race was won the previous two years by Fernando Alonso from pole position. Ferrari's last success at this circuit was in 2001 so I'm sure they'll be looking forward to putting the 7 year hiatus to rest. Tests last week indicate that both McLaren and Ferrari are on form to mount a challenge, but BMW Sauber is also indicating that they can do it. Being Monaco though, anything can happen as we've seen in previous years. The circuit remains unchanged from last year with its 3.340 km and a full race distance of 260.520 km over 78 laps. The circuit record remains with Michael Schumacher driving the F2004 with 1:14.439.

Sorry for the double post, but I didn't want to put my own opinions on the first post :) Kimi should have this one, unless McLaren surprises a bit. Felipe Massa has said previously that this is a track he doesn't like and isn't very good at as shown last year where he just cruised around for a very distant 3rd place. Anyway, should be an interesting GP, as there's some rain forecasted for the weekend.

Yeah thursday 22C and Sunny, the weekend max of 19C and 60% chance of showers!

Im tipping Kimi also, but I have a feeling Heidfeld is going to be up there, maybe even pulling off win number 1! He is due for one after all!

I'm not listening to forecasts anymore. Especially since a 99% chance of rain was predicted in Malaysia and not a single drop fell ;)

This one is Hamilton's. The trend in recent seasons has been for McLaren and a few of the other dark horses to out-perform or be much closer to Ferrari than normal - be it because of their relatively long wheel base or not.

Looking forward to seeing how they cope without electronic braking assistance here... guessing we'll see a few cars stopped at 90 degrees to the barrier around the Swimming Pool and the likes over the weekend.

Gav: I agree with you partially, but Ferrari has said that they've been actively looking into what is the problem with car in Monaco and that they should have it fixed for this race...we'll have to wait and see I guess.

Same here.

Should be a good battle between Raikkonen and Hamilton. Alonso maybe a podium?

Plus watch out for Trulli, Webber and Fisichella, they always go well here.

Despite generally good cars also won here, this is a track for specialists, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Fisichella close to the points with the Force India or Alonso, Webber and/or Trulli much closer to the top guys than in any other event. And if it rains+SC even a Toro Rosso can win...

Monaco, though has a lack of overtaking is always a race to look forward to.

Expecting a good race from Alonso and Trulli has a very good car underneath... would be please me to see him near the podium :)!

"Trulli was slowing down like he wanted to have a picnic" LOL

Alonso for pole I think he could have a very good race.

I think Kovy for the win and lewis in the wall.

I think the battle will be between Kimi and Heikki (whose qualify speed at the moment is superb). Massa isn't so good at monaco ..and suprises can be expected from Alonso and Webber!

I do think a few people will go light for quali as there is bound to be a saftey car due to preditcted rain and the lack of driver aids, I really can not see all the cars getting round the 1st corner.

I am not sure about kimi, some years he has been good at Monaco others years really bad. I dont think Massa has ever shone last year he did ok but nothing great.

If anyone has a weakness in the gearbox it will show here.

this will be a very close race, with the three major teams, as well as alonso and webber fighting for the podiums. Webber has done very well at Monaco in the past, and i expect him to do very well!

Hoping Webber can keep up his points scoring form by getting some big points this weekend. DC got a podium last year, so he should be strong. Fisi should go well here, maybe even an STR sneaking into the points, depending on retirements etc...

DC got a podium in 2005 there...not last year.

You feeling alright marc? ;)

Lewis should be fast but can't afford to hang it out like he did last year, Ferrari seem to have good speed in the low speed corners so i expect them to be more competitive than last year.

I hope Heikki can get a win this time, if not then Fernando, Mark or one of the BMW boys.

I think Lewis will get the pole (or close). After last year affair, I think Lewis will go much lighter than Heikki this time (as the five times before :-P ). The race is another story...
