even though i dont like him, i feel like putting $100 down on massa to win championship. its obvious ferrari are the team to beat, and unfortunantly i think massa is the better driver, he was better then kimi last year, but bad luck ruined his chances.

maybe not getting disqualified would help him alot last year... driving trough red, stupid mistake to do. Kimi had his bad luck to ;-)

Cool looking nose from BMW :) I really do fancy their chances this year, and they're a good team too! Williams had a good test today by the looks of it, but its way too early to draw conclusions.

I'm not liking the pace of Ferrari though, not because I'm a Ferrari hater but because I fear we may be in for a few more years of domination :( ...

From AFCA

- Massa set a 1:12.182. He was often trying to find out how good the F2008 is over one lap (using new tyres). This was one of Ferrari's problems last year but it seems to be solved, just like the problem of driving through slow corners and over high kerbstones. Raikkonen, being six tenths slower mainly concentrated on long runs.

- McLaren was doing long runs as well and one of the development aims has been reached: the MP4-23 conserves the reartyres more than its predecessor. Meanwhile, Kovalainen had a new seat fitted in the car which made him feel much more comfortable: ''We've gone through our programe, without caring for Ferrari's times.''

- Rosberg is more or less the surprise of the day ending third. In the longruns he was as fast as the McLaren drivers. On average he lost out on Raikkonen by two tenths. Rosberg is happy: ''The new car is a clear improvement. I definately had more grip. We were able to do 84 laps without problems. That's a good starting basis.''

Michael expresses his enthusiasm also: ''It's been a long time since I've gone back to the factory with such a good feeling after testing.''

- At Renault things are relaxed and Alonso has indicated the car feels better than last years car straight away. Briatore indicates the R28 encounters little problems at his debut: ''The car is driving here in the same way as when it came out of the factory being put in the truck.''

- Heidfeld is complaining about balance problems in his F1.08. A driver's mistake ending up in the gravel confirms the problem. Despite the difficulties the German is optimistic: ''We know which things we have to address.''

- After an oil leak in the morning, Coulthard was only able to really drive the RB4 in the afternoon. First comments: ''Positive thing is that our weak point from last year - the gearbox - keeps up. But we still have to look for laptimes. I hope that we'll be faster than the Toro Rosso at the end of the week.''

I was about to post that Kimi looked like doing long runs. And if you think about it, 5 tenths slower on long runs is pretty damn great. Also, very nice form from Williams. Not so sure about BMW now...

I'm not one to read much into testing times, but the Williams looks encouraging as expected, and Ferrari look like wiping the field next season. I think they've been fastest everyday since the F2008 was run - certainly not far from it. That said, I don't think there were many who expected anything else in 2008.

Testing is testing last year ferrari won the testing battle and only just about won the championship.

All teams are working on different things, alot of teams do not even have their new areo package on the car yet. Mclaren are working on gear box and rear tyre usage.

BMW are having probs already with balance thats a worry for them, and renault are off the pace as well they are only getting close to the leading times but doing short runs and other teams are setting the pace on long runs.

Yes, but Ferrari seems faster in every circumstance. McLaren is far from them and has been testing the 2008 for some time already (I think McLaren is worse than last season related to Ferrari). And yes, BMW seems to be less competitive with the new one than with the 2007 car. Renault has started today to evaluate/seek performance because they have not worked on the setup yet, so it is difficult to say if they are far from the rest. The same for Honda (although I would not bet my money on the new RA108 :-P)

There are already stories some teams are cheating and ferrari is making some strange sounds coming out of tight turns. Lets see what happens.

I thought this was not meant to happen.

Trivial, but how does Alonso know that this year's car is testing better than last year's? Was he able to test last year's Renault in the lead up to Valencia? Or is he saying that this year's Renault feels better than last year's McLaren?

Judging by Briatore the Renault's going about 2kmh!

As I said testing is testing and this track does not show if a car is good or not, the rubbish mclaren a few years back was fast here and rubbish every where else. This track tests traction not much else.

In Jerez ferrari were fast but on longer runs mclaren were faster according to some stories and others said ferrari were faster so no one really knows.

Mclaren dont even have the new wings on the car yet its still last years rear and front wings I think people are looking into times far to much.

@ marcl

Ferrari don't have new wings either ;) and yes at Jerez Ferrari and McLaren were equal on long runs and at Valencia Ferrari has been few tenths quicker ..however Kovalainen said that they don't even mind about Ferrari so far because they just do their own things.

about that some teams are cheating..well McLaren is the one who gets perfect starts without wheelspins and first finger should be directed to them because it's their electronic system that's been used :)
