Greatest drivers not to make it to F1

Hi Guys

Thought I'd start a thread on the greatest drivers who should have but for some reason didn't make it to Formula 1.

I'll start with Gil de Ferran. Brilliant driver multiple cart champ but over looked by F1 for some reason. Tested a Footwork in 1993 but split his head open on a cupboard in the motor home so only drove a few laps!!!! Never seemed to get a look in after that. Also if I remeber correctly drove a williams renault but that test was in torrential rain and was a prize for something.

There are a few I can think of.

Gil de Ferran
Little al
Paul Tracy (can not belive i said that lol)

Paul tracy...lol, no offence, but if tracy would run in f1, we will se the new Local Kombat F1 Racing and fighting lmao

Yeah loads of CART drivers that should/could of made it in F1.

I think Liitle AL would have been awesome, also Greg Moore was a brilliant driver. But sadly he was cut short in his prime.


didn't Paul Tracy test a Benetton in 94?

I think more that way that all "poor" F1 drivers should go to cart to beat those guys.. Seems to work well till now.

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

On the evidence of their admittedly limited testing Unser Jr and Tracy would not have made a great impression in F1.

Sebastian Loeb is a driver i would have liked to see in F1.

Tom Kristensen and Nicolas Minassian

Kristensen I think should have had a shot. He'e the Man in Sports cars, would have been interesting to see how he would have gone

Minassian impressed me massively during his F3000 days, winning races and running the competition very close yet never being with the favourite team. Was super close to Heidfeld and Montoya.

Should have been France's next big thing yet somehow it just never materialised

Problem with him though was his temper, he had many arguments with other drivers and teams. Nicolas Minassian is who I am talking about.

Gordie gene should have been given a chance in f1.

Or McRae who did also test Jordan car over 10 years ago.. (btw if somebody have any pictures of that test drive, please post to me. thx) But he is getting maybe bit too old but it doesnt change that fact that he is fast on gravel and also on track.

Not a racecar driver, but still: Valentino Rossi.

May be he will make his appearance in F1 in the future.

Felipe Massa, World Champion 15:34:11pm- 15:34:21pm.

Tom Kristinsen had a shot. Tested a Minardi in 1998 and got shunned in favour of Esteban Tuero, though he probably brought more pesos to the team than Tom did.

Tom Kristensen was also the Official test driver for The BMW test hack that went into the Williams in 2000 along with Jorg Muller but it still doesn't change the fact that he didn't start a GP, which is what this forum is about

Scott Dixon definately!
Hes incredibly quick and needs to get off the ovals. He tested for williams a few times but i think hes tied up in contracts with IRL

The best not to make the final step?
Gereg Moore, Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti, Bruno Junqueira, Alex Premat, Bjorn Wirdheim.

Jeff Gordon, some might laugh, but this guy is for me one of the best drivers in the world
