When was the last red flagged race?

AFter watching a Caterham race at Castle Combe that had just been red flagged, me and one of my m8s got talking about F1 and couldnt remember the last time a grand prix was red flagged? lol the last time we could remember was spa 2001 (we think) for the Luciano Burti smash.

So when was it, we were probably missing out a really obvious race lol

I think it was 2003 rather than 2002?

it was the 2003 gp, when webber crashed out on the last sweeping corner, alonso hit the debri and then it was red flagged

When was the last race that was restarted after a red flag? As in one that had only had a lap or two before a pile up or something?

When was the last red flagged race that was restarted after more than two laps (causing two aggregate races)?

Suzuka 1994, Damon Hill´s best win, was a case.
Red flagged after Martin Brundle (Mclaren) "hit" a trackside marshall...and then restarted, all under rainy conditions.
But, as far I remember...it was Spa 2001 the last one...the race was restarded after Burti´s crash.

Spa '98 springs to mind for the first, for the second Suzuka '94 i think.

Champ Car had one this past weekend at Montreal. The rain was so bad that they had puddles a foot and a half deep at turn one...

I saw a bit of that race, and I'm sure the puddles weren't that deep? Surely that would be a bit more than half the height of a tyre, and I don't remember a boat race around there!

This was after the race had stopped. The rain continued to come down in torrents, and the drain located in a grassy section near the first turn couldn't handle the overflow, so essentially it formed a small pond that covered the inside section of the track at that corner.

On TV they showed the various auxiliary vehicles of the circuit driving around the course, and when they reached this section it looked as if they might drown their engines because the water was so deep.

As if that wasn't bad enough the wind was blowing extremely hard and leaves and small tree branches were littering the track in some areas. No way they could have restarted that race on Sunday....

Belgium 2001 was the last F1 race stopped just after the start.

I don't believe a race at Monaco has been stopepd since 1995, and that was on the very first corner. Spa '98 was the same. Spa 2001 I think, was the Burti crash, and that was on lap 1 also.

Spa 2001 was stopped about 7 or 8 laps in. The Monaco incident that Matt is referring to was in 2000 on the first lap when a couple of the backmarkers had a tangle at Loews and totally blocked the track. As far as my memory serves me think Brazil 2003 was the last race to be red-flagged after half distance, Belgium 2001 was the last to be stopped after more than two laps and restarted and I'd take a guess that maybe Germany 2001 was the last to be red-flagged before two laps were up (when Burti vaulted over Schumacher at the start).

Button was one of the guys stuck at the Grand Hotel Hairpin in 2000.
