Jenson hasn't got that "something special", that "killer instinct" to take victories. If he has the best car he may accept a victory given him by his team, but I don't think he'll snatch one away from an equally matched competitor.
Brian Hodgson

Jenson is the most overrated driver in the F1 grid and I think he is going to find it very difficult to win his maiden grand prix. Good luck to him anyway.

First of all the car has to be good enough, and even then I feel it's crunch time for JB. Rubens is an excellent driver, and there were more that a few occasions where he outpaced Schumacher at Ferrari. I think JB will be pushed hard by Rubens who will be out to impress his new team. Unless Jenson can beat him consistently then he will not win in 2006.
J. Smith
Doncaster

I think the question shouldn't be can Jenson win in

is that the same James Hewitt who sh***ed Princess Diana, you know, Prince Harry's real father?

the comment above that one you selected Zeppelin is interesting, bordering on dellusional:

"Of course he can, he's up there with Raikkonen and Alonso in terms of speed. Lets enjoy watching Jens, Alonso, Raikkonen and Schuey all fighting for victory in 2006!

Chet ? lol

I personally think it´s all down to the car , the season is long, so if the car is good enough , he MAY win races ... or not , there are so many variables in here so we will see

Which one is it to be? Or are there just so many variables, but all in the car?

I kinda feel the same as Vader on this.

Can Jenson win? Who cares?
Can Kimi win? Who cares?
Can Fernando win? Who cares?
Can Webber win? No.

They're all just lab rats in a big technological experiment. Yeah, it's all about the car... which is enough to conclude that Schumacher didn't just suddenly become the third best driver on the grid.... Where's the fun, where's the battle between real beings? Who cares?

many variables -> mechanical problems , rain etc ... about the car I was talking about raw-speed , because if it isnt fast enough , it wont win unless a indy 2005 happens again

button is the leading brit, so our nation follows that hero as he is our most likely equipped driver to achieve success so we all back him, hence the hype.

no matter how good or bad they are comapared to other drivers, he is english and us english fans pump lots of speculation and hopes onto him to try and gain awknowledgement as a great f1 racer.

sometimes it just doenst happen.

but you shouldnt let that arguement errupt that 'theyre crap, all that hype'

narain was hyped in india as he was the first, and onli indian in f1.

outside, he is barely mentioned. i cant even spell his surname (actually most people cant bad point sorry!) but yes he is not pimped up outside india much, if at all.

how much do you think button is hyped in say brazil, or spain?

probably little, as it all about senna, rubens and alonso... the nations favourite and hopes for the titles.

there wasnt much distributed hype when there were more brits in earlier years, and it usually is only with the major favourites, ie the nigel mansell/damon hill years.... people didnt take much note of warwick, herbert, brundle, blundell, coulthard, firman, wilson, davidson etc

so why does button get so much attention?

simple, hes our main man. take button out, who have the english got to support loyally as a national fan?

so thats why we all bum button, hes our main hope.

There has been a recent spate of threads on this forum lifted directly from ITV-F1. Have people just become incessantly lazy, or have we all forgotten how to read?

I agree Damn, just don't forget that this forum is not British, but international. Outside the UK Button doesn't get mentioned more than any other driver on the grid.

Did the majority of people in here leave Michael Schumacher alone? Not that I'm a fan of him or feel the need to protect him (and certainly not to attack you personally, eddief1) but I feel a lot of hurt pride in Brits when people attack Jenson, even though they were less gingerly with Michael. What goes around comes around, I guess.

yeah people are obsessed with him, but then saying that the last two spectacularly supported main 'english gents' in major teams were mansell and hill.

they both happened to win races and titles, and fans worshipped them something insane, so button being in a considerably good team as well has yet to amount a win let alone a championship to his name.

he is under expectant pressure from fans, whether they intend to or not, and until he does get that first win the pressure will not ease.

our fans dont mean for him to be overhyped, we get full into backing our team and sometimes blind ourselves out of reality of what we can realistically obtain... the english football team is a good example i feel. yes we know we have a great side but why dont we win championships?

perhaps the key there is 'yes we know...'

We dont KNOW anything so much, as its likely to be biased. we like to believe we have the best goods and the ability to deliver, so we excited ourselves to the point of dillusion that we WILL WIN.

when we dont we simply feel disappointed, and blame the competitor, when really it is the fault of the fans asking too much in the beginning.

as an englishman there is a great sense of pride when something of our own home soil becomes the best at something, whether its cricket, rugby, darts, snooker, the worlds largest runner bean... its our nation and we feel proud to be part of that seed of glory.

im sure many of you other feel the same when your individual nations do so well, and rightly so.
