I actually received an email from Stefan GP HR at the time!

Jenson drives it like he owns it; Lewis drives it like he stole it

Can I say that in such a crap car anybody would look like a crap driver ?

Alonso impressed no end of people driving the back-of-the-grid Minardi. Webber too showed he was someone to keep an eye on.

Conversely, you get people like Diniz, who was atrocious in the Forti, but came alive driving the Prost and in particular the Sauber.

You just need to look at the reputation that Bianchi has built up over the last year, with his drives for Marussia.

Beforehand, I think many, myself included, thought he would be a huge disappointment, especially after being the nearly-man in GP2 and WSR.

I remember being particularly gutted that Luis Razia had lost his drive.

That is, if he is not going to prison, which still is a very likely outcome.

He also has a tendency to completely alienate key members of staff and world champion class drivers to the point that they either quit the sport entirely, or go make some other team world champions *cough* kimi *cough* DC *cough* Newey *cough* JPM *cough*...

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

At a moment I was wondering if you were speaking of Ron Dennis or Frank Williams (in the cough series you have Reuteman, Piquet, Mansell, Prost, Hill, Frentzen... for Williams).

Exactly - two of the best examples of all.

cough hamilton

one could argue that ron's backstage games made lewis leave. from what i know, lewis had told whitmarsh he will stay, but after lewis found out about ron's backstage little dirty games, he decided to leave.

On the other hand, ron found lewis, and brought him into the team, so there's that too.

Caterham have confirmed that Pic is out for 2014. No surprise if the comments I've heard from some of the mechanics about him are true.

While all of VDG's sponsors have been removed from the partner section of the team's website.

Looks like Caterham will confirm their line-up tomorrow. I suspect it will be Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson.

One suspects that Hamilton decided to leave some 4 years after Ron stepped down...

Kobayashi and Ericsson confirmed at Caterham.

Not a brilliant line-up, but at least they've gone for talent in regards to Kobayashi, he's far from useless.

Its got nothing to do with him driving for free. Good to have him back though. Ericsson is a waste of a seat.

Sauber? I think you read my post and got confused, they're actually at Caterham ;-)

another lame choice of driver numbers for the new Caterham drivers - 9 & 10 (N) (N) (N)

might as well have kept the old system of 1-23

Why do any of us care about numbers? It's not like it's going to have any immediate effect. In 5+ seasons, when there's a bit of history around them, it might be another issue, but personally I couldn't care less who picks what at the moment.

All I can say is this: give Ericsson a chance.

He's only 23, so he's got time on his side. He's also won Formula BMW and Japanese F3. Perhaps his record in GP2 hasn't been amazing, but neither was Kobayashi's. Let's see if he can make the step up before we nay-say.

You might say their numbets are boring, but I suspect it's just coincidence. Don't know about Ericsson's choice of 9, but Kobayashi's 10 was the number he used in his first 2 races in F1, with Toyota :)

Alex, I did mean Caterham, my bad, that post of mine was an utter clusterf**k.

I'm not so sure about Ericsson, as Jake has said he is far from useless, but three wins in four years of GP2 isn't great.

Another interesting point that came out of today, Fernandes has said that he will walk away from F1 if Caterham don't make a step up this season.
