Gone are the days of the glitzy launches. The more functional launches, simply rolling your car out of the garage, make much more sense.

Kevin Magnussen revealed earlier this morning that he will use the #20 during his time in F1, as it was the number he raced with last year when he won the title in FR3.5

Races: 163 - Wins: 23 - Pole Positions: 24 - Fastest Laps: 22
Season 9: Constructors' Champions

Yeah the days of things like

are very much long gone.

I always preferred the traditional Williams way of launching a car anyway.. turning up at testing and quietly admitting that they built a new car.

As opposed to Marussia turning up in Melbourne ashamed to admit they built a new car that will probably be even slower than the last one...

Sutil number is the best, is Greg Moore's!!!
Hulkenberg chose a hardcore racing legacy number, cool... some others are pretty lame

Lewis choosed a good one too

Hamilton's could be a reference to the +44 dialling code for the UK. Given that his GF is American that may hold some significance for him. What do you reckon???

So, we can confirm Hulk will be driving a Ferrari sometime ;-)

Toro Rosso is the only team that has consecutive numbers. They should rename the team as Ligier as well and bring gitanes as sponsor.

I'm surprised nobody took 12, I was convinced Hamilton was going to take it being him a big senna fan.

Just hoping for big and visible numbers!

anyway, still im convinced teams should had choose numbers instead drivers, although it brings back some identity to the drivers (well, not everyone).

Let's see...

5 Sebastian Vettel - Probably as he first won the F1 title with that number
3 Daniel Ricciardo
44 Lewis Hamilton - Used in karting
6 Nico Rosberg - The number that his dad won the F1 title with
14 Fernando Alonso - Used in karting
7 Kimi Räikkönen - "It's the number I already had last year and I saw no reason to change it."
8 Romain Grosjean - First number used in F1, later used it in his best season to date
13 Pastor Maldonado - Sense of humor?
22 Jenson Button - Won F1 title with that number
20 Kevin Magnussen - Won FRenault 3.5 title with that number
27 Nico Hülkenberg - Legacy, we presume?
11 Sergio Perez - Used in GP2
99 Adrian Sutil
21 Esteban Gutierrez
25 Jean-Eric Vergne
26 Daniil Kvyat
19 Felipe Massa - Won Euro F3000 title with that number
77 Valtteri Bottas - "BO77AS" branding
17 Jules Bianchi

Anyone mind filling me in on the rest? ;)

Well it's a relief for the numbers to be finally published because the general pitter patter about it was getting rather tiresome as well as the sheer ignorance on Facebook by people who clearly hadn't read up on it and didn't grasp it's premise.

But mini rant over... The over riding pattern seems to be "my hero had this number" and "this was my favourite karting number" or "I won my first championship wearing this number" or even "dad won the championship with this number and I'm superstitious as hell".

With that in mind, kudos to Maldonaldo for inadvertently picking "unlucky" #13, and Hamilton, Bottas and Sutil for going with larger numbers and being a bit different.

Spotted the Toro Rosso = Ligier link, I wonder if they'll be tempted to write the setup data on the back of packet of Gitanes?

No number yet for Chilten, it's almost a shame that #0 isn't open for choosing.

Given that Lotus are "subject to confirmation" for 2014 (along with Marussia) and still haven't signed with Renault, I'm beginning to wonder whether they'll make Melbourne, never mind finish the season.

You have to believe that Genii wouldn't allow them to fold as it would wipe away any chance of a decent sale. They appear to have money, but are refusing to invest in the team.

It's getting increasingly worrying with each passing day. When did the last good news come out of Enstone?

Lotus will 100% have Renault engines this season. Once Renault get paid, then the deal will be announced.

Apparently, the majority of the PDVSA money will go towards paying debts to suppliers and employees, so it should leave Lotus relatively secure on that front.

I've heard rumours that Honeywell are building Lotus' turbo units, but haven't been blessed with reliability thus far.

@smoglessbutton4, here's what I've come across for another two numbers:

14 Fernando Alonso - He used it in karting.
7 Kimi Räikkönen - "It's the number I already had last year and I saw no reason to change it."

GPGSL: S6 - TafuroGP Tester (14th) /// S7 - ART Tester (6th) /// S8 - Demon Driver (13th) /// S9 - Demon/Snake Driver (13th) /// S10 - Snake Driver (???) ///]

Turns out Hamilton's first kart was #43, but hey, he still used 44 with some success ;)

Chilton confirmed at Marussia :-/

I think Lotus will make it. The Maldonaldo PDVSA deal will provide a little bit of short term stability to settle some debts. And the consortium of owners will continue to bail the team out whilst they wait on securing a proper investor. But the silence on the Quantum thing kind of suggests that deal is definitely buried now.

My main concerns are two fold.

First... missing the Jerez testing is a blunder what ever it's justification and they're losing extremely valuable track time to react to any problems with the powertrain.

Secondly they seem to be losing more than their fair share of senior engineering staff in the usual merry go round of engineers between teams. And that could harm the longer term performance of the team.

That is so Kimi. Brilliant.
Gutting that he didn't choose #27 though.

RE the Lotus situation, I think they'll find enough funding from various sources to make it. The team's performance will suffer though, it's not going to be another Brawn.
