From my understanding Genni are attempting to find an extra 10 million to invest in the team to balance the budget.

The Honeywell rumour is an odd one, as the proposed deal between them and Lotus that was mooted for 2013 never came together.

From speaking with Crofty, he is certain that we will not see the Quantum deal happen.

On the topic of Chilton, ah well, he's solid enough, and he has got to be a better bet than Rodolfo 'Speedy' Gonzalez. You can only assume that he will make Bianchi look decent once again as well.

Can someone who understands explain to me why we have these "Aardvark" noses this year?

I know that the overall nose height has been reduced to something like 180mm in the interests of safety, but why would the teams want to have the pokey out bit instead of just the nice, Brawn-esque nose which all ends in the same place?

I don't understand.

In short, teams are trying to get the air to flow under the car as much as possible. Creating the aardvark nose increases that since there's less surface area in the way.

In other words the cars are designed with performance in mind and not what what a "fan" might think aesthetically pleasing.

So why didn't they impose a minimum width too, to outlaw it??

I'm really getting excited for this season now, even in the last couple of days I've started feeling more fired up. It could be one of the most chaotic seasons we can remember watching, and the first few races in particular should be crazy. That can only be good.

Because the technical group which writes the regulations are made up of engineers... not fans.

I'm a Max Chilton skeptic.

Last year I confidently predicted that he'd be the "Prince of fail".

However to give him his dues for a rookie he had remarkably few incidents except a clumsy incident with Maldonado at Monaco. Naturally some blame would need to be apportioned to Maldonado there ;)

Sure, Max never really looked particularly quick.. he usually got out-qualified by Bianchi and more often than not out raced as well. But he finished every single race which is a creditable enough feat for experienced drivers let alone a relatively inexperienced rookie.

Pay driver he may be.. limited potential he may be of. Yet he's not exactly Yuji Ide who was basically a bit of a liability.

It's been a big day for news in F1.

As Lez has pointed out we've got Bernie steeping aside, which is huge.

Not only that, but Ron is on his way back,

In addition, we've got three teams allegedly joining the team entry process already.

Gene Haas has submitted an entry, as has Colin Kolles and...wait for it...Zoran Stefanovic!

I can't wait to see what StefanGP come up with.

I'm guessing it'll be a chopped-up 2010 Toyota.

Nah, it'll be a 1985 Zakspeed. They're experts at this stuff!

Haas is an interesting one. Is this the same 'Haas' who ran Lolas in F1 the mid-80's? ;)

More often than not is being kind to him, he got annihilated! :D
And I think in one of the qualifying sessions Bianchi had a technical problem. Even in free practice Bianchi was always quicker! ;)

Qualifying

Faster qualifying time: Bianchi 17 / Chilton 2

Poles: Bianchi 0 / Chilton 0

Front rows: Bianchi: 0 / Chilton 0
Best qualifying finish: Bianchi 15th (Belgium) / Chilton 16th (Belgium)

Races

Wins: Bianchi 0 / Chilton 0

Poles: Bianchi 0 / Chilton 0

Points finishes: Bianchi 0 / Chilton 0

DNFs: Bianchi 3 / Chilton 0

Ahead in two-car finish: Bianchi 14 / Chilton 2
Highest finish: Bianchi 13th (Malaysia) / Chilton 14th (Monaco)

Lol at Poles and wins
Can I say that in such a crap car anybody would look like a crap driver ?
The difference doesn't seem to be such important in their best Q/R finish in your stats

No it's a different Haas, not the same guy who had the mid 80's team and link-up with Newman in Indy.

Kolles has been linked to the "Romanian" entry and is also reported to be building a LMP1 car.. so might still have some useful infrastructure to get involved in F1 again.

The Bernie news isn't particularly significant... he's still in charge. The only change is that he has to consult the board before "buying something". Other than that there's no practical change and he'll return to the board once his court cases are finished.

Ron's return to greater influence at McLaren could well be significant because what Ron wants Ron tends to get, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he convinced Ross Brawn to take up the team principal post, which is a shame because as a Williams fan I'd like him to go to Williams and turn them around. ;)
