2012 Belgian Grand Prix: Spa Francorchamps

Length: 7.004 km (4.352 mi)
Turns: 20
Lap record: 1:47.263 (Germany Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull, 2009)

Sorry to start it over two weeks early but im so excited to be going to belgium again I thought Id start a thread!

After going last year with my dad for my first grand prix I thought id go again this year but with 4 mates! Should be an eventful road trip, me and one other in my MX-5 and the other 3 in a bmw! (lets just hope theres no breakdowns!)

I was just wondering if anyone else had beeb before, what time does the pitlane open for the pitwalk on the thursday? I think the two of us in my car are heading down for the 2am crossing on thursday morning, whilst the other three are going down later in thursday daytime.

As the two in my car are the biggest f1 nuts in our group we thought we'd get down to hopefully see a few drivers and some of the mechanics at work!

Could you add the usual stuff, like track map, statistics and a qual lap video?

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

You might want to check this link, easily found using a certain search engine... ;)

But make sure you're there early so you're further up any queue :-)

Anybody else think the red/yellow kerbs are hideous? Reminds me of that crappy test track in Valencia.

Good to see the thread up, I don't think it was too early at all!
Always look forward to this race, I can't help but feel the changes of the last 10 years have begun to spoil Spa though and take the challenge and excitement out of it.
Kimi for the win, this should be his best chance!

I know what you mean, although it's still special to watch a race at Spa it feels a bit... diluted? I'm not usually one to moan about tarmac run-offs but I think they have nearly ruined Spa. They're far too over the top, Pouhon is a perfect example.

I watched the Indycars last weekend at Infineon Raceway, and it was brilliant - not for the racing, but to see cars as quick as them driving on a circuit with no tarmac runoff whatsoever, just dirt and grass, and even several places where there were no barriers at all!

Moaning aside, I can't wait for this race ;) I wonder if Bruno Senna will do well here after his qualifying last year?

Exactly - diluted sums it up pretty nicely. It's like a Tesco Value version of the old Spa. More of Tilke's work towards @#$%& up all the tracks.
It was brought up by Gav in a recent post he made, and I thought what he said was spot on.

Yeah, I'll be there. I'm trying to make the most of my European trip - have been at Silverstone and Hungary so far this year and Monza next weekend. Haha. But seriously, I'm really lucky to be able to get to some races this year and it's a good season to be at! I'm in GA.

By the way, I'll try and be more active around the forums from now on, travelling around Europe for a while doesn't make it easy but I have a lot of threads to catch up on!

McLaren have come with some rather extreme visual upgrades. I doubt it's a major upgrade, but it's not often updates as obvious as this are seen mid-season.

After a five-week layoff, Formula 1 returns this weekend with a race at the historic Spa Francorchamps circuit. As the favourite track of many current F1 drivers, Spa Francorchamps promises to provide an intriguing Belgian Grand Prix.

Good to see a dry track today after the washout yesterday, that was a bit too extreme - it's nice to see some rain but that probably would've rained quali off if it'd come down today.

What a great quali and what a great race in prospect!! This season is surely one of the most epic. :D

That was stunning stuff. If seeing Button blowing everyone away in Q2 wasn't enough, we've got a top 3 nobody would ever have bet on.

Can't wait until for the race now. :D

Two horrendous incidents in the GP2 & GP3 races...

Nigel Melker had a huge one coming out of Eau Rouge, and in GP3 Cregan was forced into the wall at Pouhon where a wheel looked to be lodged into the cockpit. Just awful.
