Bollocks - he intentionally stood on him - whether he got sent off for the challenge or pushing Ronaldo, he deserved to be sent off.

Impressive performance after that though - we really should have won - thought the tackle on Lennon was a penalty, but looking at the replay, the ref did well.

I never thought I'd say this, but Hargreaves was immense.

I didn't watch today's match, but so far he was one of the best in the WC. He doesn't have to make England lose, you can do that very well for yourselves ;)

And Mr. Poll isn't great either, everyone knows that after after 2 yellows you should show a red card :P

And the other guys didn't deserve it? They grabbed his arms, and pulled him back.

Here we go with the list of excuses from England.

1.Rooney shouldn't have been sent off.
2.The ref was clearly biased as he's from Argentina.
3.Carragher's first penalty should of counted.

Anyone care to add some more? 4. It was too hot inside the stadium perhaps?

Forza Azzurri!

i hope that the guy rooney stood on has ball-bearings for testicles now, and about 8 of them. ronaldo deserves to get shot aswell, well the whole team does so they can understand what pain really feels like before they going rolling around on the grass again;.

only flicked in and out of the game, surprised not even 1 goal was scored in normal time.

and you always get a slight bit of hope in th penalties, at 2-2 i though England could do it, but as said previously, they choked (again).

it was as if none of them had taken a penalty ever[i/].

and what's with all the tears? they played crap through all the games, it's not as if they gave a masterclass in every game, then got cheated out of the win.

as much as i'd like England to win, maybe life can return to normality from tomorrow.

let's just wait for the rioting in Germany to start as a nice leaving present.

Has anyone ever been shown a straight red for pulling someone back?

Get a grip, and stop being bitter.

We weren't going to win with Rooney on the field, and we performed immeasurably better once he'd gone. It went to penalties, and we lost fair and square. No excuses. We put in one hell of an effort, and if you want to be all patriotic, show some bloody dignity and give them the credit they deserved. They were brilliant when down to 10.

Hargreaves was man of the match, crouch was really good too.

The ref was utterly biased though - summed up by making us lose cos he made carragher take the penalty again - the first one he took was brilliant, but cos he had to retake it, he couldn't do the same thing again, as the goaley would know. Also, you can't really place it if you have to take it again, as the thing with penalties is you have to pick your spot and then stick to it with confidence - if you have to retake it, especially with a goaley good at saving them, you have to change where you put it.

Lampard was awful all game except one good slide tackle near the end. Nothing I didn't expect though.

Rooney stamped on his balls but it was a pisstake - they were blatantly fouling him and wrapped his legs around his one, to trap it. It probably was intentional but you can't be certain, as it wasn't such a "forceful" stamp. I would have given him a yellow maybe and the portugese a yellow - if anything, he was being fouled more, and didn't really do that much.

The portugese are @#$%& cheats, which of course we already know. And then they were all boasting about it afterwards.

I can't see wanker boy ronaldo staying at man u anymore after that - there was already denied talk of him leaving and rooney isn't going to want him there any more.

As we always see, cheaters always prosper.

Also, I don't know if I said, but rooney did nothing when he was on the field - though he wasn't in his preferred position, I'll give him that. He is good but I just feel he is quite overated.

The ref hadn't blown his whistle. How is that bias?

I thought he was alright all match - it's the way it's been throughout the tournament - 'soft' tackles punished - that goes for all the African teams, Japan, Aussieland, all of us. It's nothing new, it's just the way it's been all the way through. I thought Hargreaves early 'fouls' were very harsh, but it was fine after that IMO.

the fact that he is argentinian apparently is enough to say he was biased, some british guys think that we only care about what they do...

Physical assault should not be tolerated. Whilst the portugese player should have been sent off for fouling, rooney plain flat out assaulted him by kicking him between the legs. That should be a banning IMO. Thats far worse than any shirt pulling or other such rubbish the portugese player pulled there.

I thought he had, ok I am sorry. He was very susceptable to portugese play acting though and portugese demands.

Also, what are the rules about keepers on the goal line for penalties?
Is it just before they are kicked?

Sheesh calm down, it's only football

On the bright side, it may be a bad day for England, but it's a good day for Britain, Murray beat Andy Roddick in straight sets at Wimbledon ;)

the goalkeeper is supposed to remain on or behind the line until the ball is kicked
