"That may be true. However, you guys were the ones who got "pwned" in this round..."

I never disputed that. I never made any excuses up either really. My first post was wondering what the two players Rooney was trying to get past were doing to him. I never said he shouldn't have got a red card either.

In fact, the only derogatory thing I said was: "Ronaldo is a cheating bastard", which he is. It's sad that footballers are pathetic really; "oh an opportunity for a dive" and all that.

Seems to be getting more common in football, although some players are a hell of a lot worse than others.

Oh, and I'm not particularly a football fan either ;-)

I reckon that Ronaldo should start an acting academy when he is retired.... :P

On a lighter note, congrats to Portugal, they have proved once again that they have the nerve and the skill when it comes to penalties :)

A heartfelt round of applause to both teams here.

England had the best team they have had in decades, and I think that was reflected in the worldwide media (not just British) expecting England to be a contender for the overall victory. But we didn't play well, although everyone put in 110%. Terry put his body on the line numerous times throughout the tournament; Beckham played with a stomach bug just long enough to score the winner against Ecuador; Rooney set a new World record for the fastest ever recovery from a broken metatersal, just so he could play.

Of course I'm disappointed that 'my' team are out, but it's not as if we've been showing signs of brilliance and been dealt a cruel blow (i.e. Argentina or Spain).

Andt he ref wasn't biased. Fans always look to someone to blame, and this time it appears to be the Argentinian ref. Portugal got more decisions but this is because they dived a lot more. It WAS a red card, and it WASN'T a penalty.

So in conclusion: don't get too upset by this, guys, I've enjoyed this World Cup and the positive feelings about England's performances, but we're out now. Let's not hear any more poor excuses.

Don't think that was the best England team i've seen over the years but it was a gritty and determined squad, England just don't do penalties. I hope Portugal can go on and win the cup.

As an Aussie, I have to say I am pleased that England is out, purely because you've got the Rugby World Cup and the Ashes, if you guys won the soccer it would be unbearable ;)

but bad luck and comiserations all the same, what a bugger of a way to go out! you'd almost prefer to get blown off the park 5-0 than lose on penalties (at least I would)

I can't imagine girly-man Ronaldo lasting too much longer at Man United

And to think pretty much all of England were wishing the Aussies well!

Hahaha... I'm just stirring and taking the proverbial!

Australia vs England in the final, now that would have been a game!

Without having read all of this thread:

You can complain and whinge about the game itself, some complaints may be noteworthy, others may be just bitter, but when it came to the shootout we lost fair and square, and that should be the end of it.

Oh yeah, regardless of the result i f**king HATE Christiano Ronaldo. Did you see the wink when he thought the camera wasn't watching? The whole Rooney thing was contreived. He could also be seen at half time headbutting Rooney, they said it was playful but the look in his eyes tells me otherwise..
He did similar things in Euro '04, he would wait until he thought the camera's weren't in him then he would smirk and sneer with his teammates behind the other's backs, I think it was Beckham last time. He's a filthy cheat, he reminds me of the aloof, spoilt brat faux-popular kids at school that would rally people against people who were rubbish at PE. I can't stand Rooney, but I hope him and Gary Neville knock him out infront of as many people as possible when they get back to Man Utd.

And here's my whinge/complaint.. he did that thing again where he staggered before he struck his winning penalty, which whilst impressive in it's self just made me think "arrogant c*nt".

i'm sure every footballer would like to be blown while off the park, but they do have the important matter of playing a football match at hand ;-)
