Probably going to be a convincing performance by England tonight to silence the critics (and also follow the pattern of the other bigger nations so far in the tournament). I say 3-0

England have been anything but convincing this campaign, i see it as 1-0 to sweden

It'll be a draw. If it's a draw, Sweden qualify and England win the group. Sven is a Swede. And we're both in poor form.

...And if we draw then England don't have to play Germany

brunoboi, if we're going to win it (and it'll be a fluke I guess), then we've got to play the best teams at some point. It doesn't matter when you play them. You don't get anything more for finishing a runner up (other than a silver medal which will undoubtadly get locked away for ever) than you would for getting knocked out in the 2nd round. If you've lost, you've lost.

Frankly though I'd rather play Germany at the moment, rather than in the final. As the host nation, if they get on a run, they might be difficult to stop.

I agree with Gav,

I'd even go to so far as to say i'd rather us go out early, than have to suffer the heartache of going out in a penalty shootout later on in the tournament

I can hardly bring myself to watch any of the old replays on tv against argentina and germany even to this day.

It's all well and good saying that, but nearly every "big" team has been unconvincing so far. Only Germany have got into gear in their final match. No reason why England can't do the same.

But it isn't as if Sweden doesn't have big guys at the back to fight on crosses, and a reasonably balanced defense to hold a tie. And upfront they have been disgusting so far so it's unlikely they score on England, but also have a good chance of not suffering a goal. Maybe that Ällback guy will not play and Sweden may be able to finish better though, or even better, Ibrahimovic could play the way he does in Football Manager 2006, then I say Sweden 4x0, 3 goal by Slatan and 1 assist ;)

I wouldn't worry too much about that mate (not that you would, being a 'zillian of course). Even if Crouch was playing (Rooney is starting this time), he's not that good in the air. His shear height leads you to think he'd be very good, but he's not got the strength to use it most of the time. Despite looking like Bambi, he's actually quite good with his footwork - that volley he sliced against T&T isn't par for the course for him... saying that, volleys aren't anyway, but you get what I mean. ;)

Of course we are quite dangerous on set-plays though - Beckham's deliveries (one of his remaining strong points) and with a couple of big centre backs (Terry in particular), and Owen's bloody good too considering how little of him there is.

Good point Gav, I wonder if Rooney will play standing more by himself at the front with Owen feeding him, seeing as he isn't match fit yet. And Crouch could take some lessons from Klose with headers, he'd be unstoppable if he had a good form!

It'll be the other way around, the way it was, with Owen standing on the shoulder of the last defender, and Rooney doing the hard work.

We're not going to get anywhere by changing what they do best, and they both need fitness, both match and in general - the best way of getting fit is to play. Rooney will be brought off though, no doubt. Owen could do with the full 90mins if at all possible - he's only had 40 minutes of action in the past 6 months prior to the 2 friendlies before the finals (both of which he lasted ~60mins)... I think this time Sven is aiming for him to do the distance.
