Quite easily too. Despite problems with the door latches on both cars, and a gear linkage problem on the second car they finished 1st and 3rd and lapped generally 2 seconds faster than everyone else, and at some points up to 6 seconds faster. The prediction of it being rubbish was garbage.

I hope they'll beat audi in Le Mans this year!

I don't like diesel cars, but that thing is fast. I just hope that we'll never see a Ferrari MJet (=FIAT's diesel engine)

Well no they cant do that at the moment can they? ACO is pushing for disel power in the LMPs, and later ethanol (its a bit behind the times, IRLs done that for years and ALMS is already doing that), but for GT cars you still need the same basic engine thats in the road car. So unless Ferrari start fitting Ford Transit engines to the back of Ferrari 430s next year then it isnt going to happen.

Dont see why people are against the diesels anyway. People who dont know what they are talking about say they smell and sound wrong, well I'll tell you from personal experience they dont. They sound, look and smell like racing cars. If nobody told you it was a diesel then you'd never know.

I wouldn't count on kristensen being there... I work within the motorsport industry, and a guy i work with is racing at lemans and apparently he wont be there.... still getting double vision if he's in the car for long periods of time, but the organisers have asked audi not to release anything in fear of the large legion of fans that he has not turning up?

well so i'm led to believe........

I guess we'll know come the weekend...

Your sources are really not well informed at all... Tom is not the kind of guy to pull a media stunt like you describe. He did a test this weekend in England, and on monday he announced that he was fit for fight for his 11th Le Mans.

This is the article from the danish state-owned TV/Radio:

"- Jeg er glad for at være tilbage, jeg er glad for denne beslutning, sagde Tom Kristensen på dagens pressemøde."

Translated: I am happy to be back, I am happy with this decision, said Tom Kristensen at todays press conference.

One thing's for sure, the actual Peugeot is estremely ugly, and nothing like the "greyhound" prototype unfortunately :S

Audi looks nice as always.

i think the peugeot looks nice, and im sure aothers do too, so your oppinion of 'one things for sure' is a pretty bad and pointless one. a lot of people find beatuy in the way the car is engineered, much like people find the brm 1.5 v16 to be the best sound, which i and others dont think it is. the exact same thing you said can be said of audi. personally i prefer the peugeot, even though i dont like france and french people. but then things can be aesthetically ugly (in my oppinion, every ferrari since 1996, others may also agree) but people think they are beutiful because their favourite driver is in the car, or because the car is successful.

what i have against diesels (but only in racing) is that they have to be built to massive proportions (capacity and number of cylinders) or have to have turbo charging usually to beat an equivalent normally aspirated car. there has to be equivalence set between petrol and diesel

These new diesels in lemans fascinate my racing mind, and also remind me of a time in australias motoracing history, if you let me remenise:

let me start by talking about road cars on road cars.. im very impressed with how diesel technology has progress over the last 20 years, but the use of turbo charging... does that hold technology back?
in petrol engines it has, look at all the jap turbo cars, impreza, lancer, skyline... people who buy these cars are buying late 80a engine designs. even with their dohc etc, their are many simple NA engines, pushrod designes with greater efficiency, power and very free reving.

to me something interesting is how a nissan skyline turbo racing engine reaches, what 9000rpm? and a big nascar v8 pushrod on carbies can do the same. whats the greater engineering feat? the v8 of cause, because it has more limitations. imagine the performance of a nascar engine with dohc and all fancy stuff.
in racing trim when both engines are about 800hp, which uses more fuel? i dont know... but i think
Its interesting iv spoken to people with subaru wrx. only 2litre motor, but uses as much petrol as a 5 litre v8. in my experience iv owned a large capacity 6 cylinded, and a high performance 4 cylider turbo. performance was similar, fuel economy similar, but the engine lasted longer on the 6.

australias touring car series in the late 89s, early 90s:
there were two types of cars. pushrod v8s, and turbo skylines. the turbo skylines car had an unfair advantage, they had turbos! (skyline fans will complain, but they should use their brains, turbos are a HUGE advantage for the internal combusion engine. whereas the simple v8s didnt use forced induction) deservedly the nissans were kicked out of the series, a racing series should be on equal terms, i bet the skylines wouldve lost by 5 laps if they werent turbo charged. the engineering of the v8s was incredible for what they had to play with. f1 has proved what can be done with engineering performance out of a design limitations, the 2.4l v8s or todays 600kg cars are a hell of a lot faster then a 3.5l v12 of a 500kg f1 car of early 90s, or a 1.5l turbo of a 500kg car of the 80s.

so in summary my only compaint of the diesels in lemans, is that they should be equivalent to the petrol engines of the series. creating

But obviously JV chose LMP, but Salo said, Jacques said to him, "Your one of those wankers driving the slow cars!"

Alright alright, didn't expect people got offended by the way i expressed it, ofcourse i meant IN MY OPINION that Peugeot is extremely ugly. Neither do i like te diesel engine sound.
IMO the audi looks nice, as i also said in my first post.

Ofcourse i understand yur point, but if i even have to defend myself just because i was a bit harsh about the peugeot, then it's taken a bit too serious. The point in that post was completely clear, if somebody posts "one thing's for sure, that peugeot is extremely ugly" it is clear that at least the autor of that post doesn't like the peugeot, and so that post isn't pointless. What you do with it is your problem, i have expressed my feeling and opinion, and that's what a forum is for. Next time i'll try to do it more subtile.

And one thing's for sure, that finish from Peugeot was extremely pathetic.
