I’ve got a relatively new Lenovo laptop on windows 10 and I’ve got Grand Prix 3 set up and running with dgvoodoo2, all thanks to the guide on the first page so I’m buzzing with that, thank you.

But after that I’ve installed GPxPatch and that runs too but nothing seems to convert into the game, like GPxinfo for the onscreen graphics etc. The same goes for GP3 edit, I installed the 2020 car set to see if it works, and on the menu the 2020 graphics and team driver and names are there, but when the race starts it’s just the 1998 cars with 2020 names

Any modding (or GPxPatch specific info) is only available in Hardware mode. If you run in Software mode (which I suspect is the best way to get a stable framerate out of a laptop), then those things won't work.

And you have all my Sympathies... :D ;)
ok, if it is working I raccomand dxWnd. find in this post the setting to run correctly,
[drive.google.com]
because DgVoodoo is more compatible, but really poor in terms of CPU occupancy trouble. and you need gave compromises in terms of rcr distances and resolution for make it playable.

however if you have a desktop pc - not laptop, I think GT210 is a desktop machine -, I could suggest to have a better one, also used models, you can find many , better , with really cheap.
I have a GT610, but e still speaking about a HD2500 level performance, but very well for this game. You can find better, AMD or Nvidia.

I've frequently been getting requests for making a tutorial on GP3 with Windows 10 so I made one and thought I'd share it here as well. All required steps are included so anyone should be able to get the game up and running even without prior experience on patches, GPxPatch, Direct X wrappers or anything. I didn't get DxWnd to work on my PC so only dgVoodoo is included.

The guide includes GP3 installation, 1.13 patch installation, NO-CD patch installation, GPxPatch installation and settings, dgVoodoo installation and settings, racing wheel setup and how to get rid of the pink-striped-tyres bug.

Here's the tutorial:

I followed the tutorial to make GP3 run on windows 10 and have two hiccups:
- with dgvoodoo half the textures are white (both cars and ground)
- using dnWnd the transparent parts of the decals of the wheel and trees are greenish, and i can't start the game in full screen.

It runs perfectly fine in software mode, but... honestly I can't play it this way, I used hardware accel back in the days, and I'd like to make it work.

I'm not an expert with dgvoodoo but I did manage to make Severance: Blade of Darkness work with it after days of tweaking, but using the Glide Wrapper. I can't make it work with GP3, anyone tried it ?

The best way to play GP3 (my case, windows 7) is using DxWrapper. Don't even need to copy anything to game folder. Just create a GP3 profile is ITS dxwnd proxy (use pippozzo's settings) and launch the game FROM IT. In any track, your PO will be max 50 at race start and 30 average during the race. Same for GP32K. (both i edited FPS to 32).

Same result using DxWrapper as with dxWnd directly, which is not surprising given that directx7 is not part of the compatible version list.

I think it working correctly on windows 7 because there is actually a version of DirectX7 for this os.

In dxwrapper folder, open all settings with notepad and in [Compatibility], set Dd7to9 to 1.

This is my guide for Windows 10 in hardware mode with a DX wrapper (both DXWND and dgvoodoo options are shown)

I tried following the instructions video, but everytime I open the Gp3.exe the game tells me to insert the CD. I know the No-CD patch is supposed to solve this, but for me it does not work. I want to try to reinstall the game completely, but I don't have a CD reader on my laptop. I do have the game physically at home tho.

Does anyone know where I can download the game from, or is that question not allowed on these forums?

You only need to have a CD drive visible in windows, it's the same issue with GP4. Mount any iso and it will work.

Using your options (a few changes from the one I had from another tutorial, here's what i get:

Which is... the same as before. i'm starting to wonder if ATI/AMD cards have issues : I have the exact same render if I run GP3 with hardware acceleration without any wrapper.

Using Dgvoodoo (following PWM video), the result is...

a bit whitewashed. ;)

I tried installing as described on the first page, but I'm not satisfied at all with the performance.
I have the following system:
cpu: Core I7 6700k
graphics: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060
memory: 16 GB
OS: win 10 version 20H2 64bit

At the start of the race from a midfield, I have a PO of 350 - 400 %.
Once the dust settles, it hovers around 100%.
So software mode it is for me. (And no probability of rain, because software mode crashes in the rain)
If anybody has some useful tips to improve game speed, let me know.
PS: I refuse to play with a resolution lower than 1280 * 1024. I believe my system should be powerful enough to run this game.

I really believe you should be able to play with your pc ad less than 100% also in hardware, in dgVoooo mode or with DxWnd.
Make sure executable (gp3.exe) is setted in compatible mode, windows XP SP2 and gpxpatch and gp3.exe is setted with Admin privileges.
And add your GP3 folder as exception in windows 10 Antivirus setting.
