Just uploaded a "modder-friendly" version of the original Imola 2001 track. By that I mean all LOD relationships have been broken, so objects can be deleted at will (which was previously a limitation in modding this track). On the other hand, the track loses its ability to correctly calibrate graphics as was its function in the original game. I also threw a couple minor updates: patcby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Now the forum is back online, time to revive this thread A few years ago I started a full redo of Sakhir from the ground up (I wasn't too satisfied with the accuracy of the available versions, including our own). The project eventually stalled along with everything else, but last year's race at the Outer layout renewed my interest and I set out to not only to finish what I had startby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Really nice atmosphere at this track. Great job.by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
It's a known bug, please read my message on the first page.by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Hope you all enjoy this return from the shadows. Let me warn you about a small bug (in case you do not read the readme): in the no-chicane version, track markings such as grid lines and skid marks do not appear correctly. This happens because both layouts use the same .wad file. Fixing this issue would mean rebuilding the track mesh for the no-chicane layout (.gp4 and .bin files), and thusby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Is it this one? http://f1virtual.blogspot.com/2009/02/step-by-step-inserting-google-earth.html It may be somewhat outdated since it was written in 2009, but the general principles should still apply.by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Don't know about the rest, but my newest PC doesn't have a physical CD drive and I always need to mount the ISO to a virtual drive for GP4 to work.by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Great work, Heikki! I've been watching silently, but as the B201 was the only car I ever worked on, I'm curious: how much work did you have to update it? I remember we didn't include non-tobacco textures in the original release, for example.by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4

Merry Christmas everyone and a wonderful New Yearby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Well, no one really knows yet what the updated track will look like. They announced changes to two or three corners but I don't remember seeing any drawings being published and I believe work hasn't yet started on these changes. Anyone who starts building the track right now will only get frustrated when the changes are eventually revealed - possibly only a few weeks before the actual rby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
The game handles car textures differently. All car textures are DXT5 and the transparency layer is not used to control transparency, but reflectance under dynamic lighting. Compare the chrome McLarens from the Lewis Hamilton years to the more recent Red Bulls and you have a nice picture of what I'm talking about. I believe z_cockpit_visor is a special case (all the z_ objects are), and itby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
In short, DXT1 is for fully opaque textures, and DXT5 is for textures with transparency. As with every compression, a bit of detail is lost during the process. You might see an uncompressed texture every now and then when the creator desired to keep the highest possible image fidelity. And of course since they are uncompressed, they need more memory to be stored. I'm not sure about PO thoughby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4

Hello viking75, I do plan on making more videos, but unfortunately I've been way busier than I had expected so I don't know when I'll be able to get back to recording. However, objects like horizon, fences are simply objects with textures assigned to them. I don't know if you saw both of the videos I did, but in the second one I talk about the Add object menu, which is pby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
The quest to ever find that last hundredth of aero performance makes the cars look ugly. The area around the cockpits nowadays is so crowded with tiny appendages, makes me want to go back to 2008. Modern cars' wheelbase are a stretch too. I find the cars from the late 80's to early 2000's with much better proportions and overall aestethics than current ones. But someone onceby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Took a little longer this time, but subtitles are up for Part 2, in English and Portuguese. Part 3 should come soonish. I did have free time to do it this weekend but I felt the script was a significant jump in complexity from Part 2, so I ended up rewriting it instead and ran out of timeby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Somehow I forgot to turn my microphone on for more than half of the video, so I'm going to re-record the lesson. New video: @Landex: No, for most textboxes the only way you can change them is by typing a new value. There is a feature however that lets you change the same value for multiple sectors at once.by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Part 2 going live on F1virtual's YouTube channel today at 1 pm Brasília time / 4 pm Central European time (I might be a few minutes late though) EDIT: My mic was muted for most of the video, so I'm going to re-record it and update the link soon.by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
The first three values are coordinates (X,Y,Z), the last three a direction vector (X,Y,Z). The middle two may be related to intensity, I'm not sure. Keep in mind that coordinates are stored in the "perspective projection", that is, the Y-axis points up, while GP4Builder displays coordinates in "cartesian projection", in which the Z-axis points up. So if you pick the coby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Theoretically yes, but there are some additional data on the .mdb format (probably related to animations) that I didn't really try to understand, so more investigation is needed.by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Something small and random. Some time ago I had an idea to convert the 3d models from the team engineers to .gp4 and use them in tracks. After I found out how to do it, I realized it could be useful for people doing new pitcrews textures, for example, to check their progress quickly. I don't remember if anyone did this conversion before, so I'm sharing the models here:by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4

I couldn't get this version to work correctly on my PC. After I click "Start GPx", the game doesn't start and GPxPatch.exe disappears from the GP4 folder. I reverted to 4.44 for the time being. EDIT: Just found out it was because my antivirus (Avast) didn't like it. The executable was quarantined due to "IDP.Generic".by Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Thanks for all the positive feedback guys I plan to start the streams next weekend. The first video will cover some very basic stuff, as I intend to also guide those who never opened a .wad before - so not building a track from scratch just yet. Will get there in the third or fourth video I hope @Excalibur - I don't think I'll ever leave GP4 for good, I keep coming back in randoby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Hi everyone, long time no see and all that stuff. Some time (years?) ago I planned to do a series on video tutorials on how to use GP4Builder, aka THE TOOL for track modding in GP4. I eventually gave up on that after I realized how much work out would be to produce anything more or less professional looking, or at least at the quality I wanted. Recently I decided to revisit the idea in aby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
Congratulations Bernard, top quality work! About the start-finish line, I didn't notice it was moved until today really. I originally used Google satellite imagery from May 2016 to build the .dat file, but even today if you open Google Earth the correct start-finish line isn't there yet. So it must have been something decided only a few weeks before the Grand Prix. The difference isby Prblanco - Grand Prix 4
