If what you want is to race Formula 1 cars against AI, then yes, it's still the best option out there. The AI is superb, the weather is superb, and the community has done a remarkable job of updating and improving the game as much as possible as the years went by. I'd still recommend getting rFactor though. It's true that its AI is utter crap, but you get zillions of different kby paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4

But then what? Nobody is going to build a new full game for free, and even if they try they'll never have the resources to have it anywhere near complete enough in comparison to the other sims out there. AI for other games, even the very moddable rFactor isn't very flexible to edit. I'm sorry, but this thread is nothing but a daydream.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
rFactor is a far more immersive sim than GP4, and far superior in many areas (cars and tracks lineup, physics, force feedback when with Real Feel, modding support, online code, etc etc etc). It's just a shame that it can only be enjoyed in online leagues and lonely hotlapping sessions, that's why it'd be near perfect if it had the AI (and the weather) of GP4.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
I remember reading that Ligier themselves were surprised at the 1979 success as they didn't know why the car was quick! I think by 82 things just went back to normal - as much as I sympathise with the team they probably just weren't that good technically.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
Making a 300 lines assembler program in university was confusing enough (although fun in a dorky way), GP4 would probably have hundreds of thousands of lines like that. It'd be absolutely fantastic if someone managed to take GP4's AI and transported it to rFactor, but that's pretty much impossible. You should look at what's causing your crashes instead. I remember my GP4by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
The file still needs tweaking, I'm finding in game that the gap between the front runners and the backmarkers is too big. It's about 3 seconds when it should be more like 2 seconds in normal length tracks. The best thing about this mod is the sound, it's just superb.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
Just been testing this for 90 minutes or so (the CSM version) and having fun with it, it's quite nice. I like it more than the original rF mod which looks great but has some problems with physics. The thing that annoyed me the most was that the performances of the AI drivers didn't really reflect very well the real life season, Chandhok and Zuber didn't dominate GP2. So I went tby paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4

I believe you can make them shorter without any problem, but not longer (that will get you some kind of error somewhere).by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4

No disrespect to the original authors, but it feels a lot more fun to drive to me than the GP4 version did. And I can't see why on earth is it a crime to have the same content in different games/sims. It does need a couple adjustments as fast corners seems a little too easy to drive flat. I'd say it needs less downforce and more engine power.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
You know, CTDP is doing a 1994 mod for rFactor right now as well, maybe you guys could team up or something and share the work done in the models. Makes no sense to be wasting time on modelling if there's someone else doing them as well. Both your work and theirs seem like top quality anyway and perhaps could fit both projects. Just throwing out a suggestion.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4

The FIA got the Ferraris numbers wrong in their list, it's Massa who's #3. I'm pretty sure I've read on some forum that this is the way it is, and it's been confirmed by Ferrari, I just can't find my source right now.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
Be prepared because the biggest part of the work is now, filling the track with objects, perhaps making your own if your good at modelling, and fixing all the little bugs and the little details. There can be A LOT of them. In a way you're lucky that you've made it all flat, because it's going to be a lot easier to make the land surrounding the circuit. I've never played F1 Challenge, but as someone who ditched GP4 for rFactor recently, this is my opinion on these 2 games... basically it depends on what you're looking for in a racing game/sim: 1. Graphics: The original GP4 looks horrendous, however with mods it is pretty damn nice and above all, has great performance in my computer. This is one aspect I'd give to GP4 over rFactby paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4

I don't find it difficult to scale a track map, if you want a 10 metre bar just start a .dat from scratch with 4 straight sectors, and displace the last one until GP4Builder says the length of your track is 10 metres. But I guess this feature would save some time.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4

I found land building to be the most difficult thing while making a track... It's not exactly a GP4builder issue, but some tutorial on how to do it with Zmodeler or something like that would be cool.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
I vote for 1, but have no clue which would be the best new feature, really. A track editing tutorial would be nice, but there are some already around, unfortunately track editing just isn't a very easy learning process.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
I don't know what happened to you, but surely a lot of things in life are way more important than videogames, so you don't need to feel pressured to finish this. If you take the option to quit developing this, then yes, it'd be better if you could hand it over to someone who could finish it, but take your time to make a decision.by paranoik0 - Grand Prix 4
