80 °C is 353 K, which is 29% warmer than 0 °C, so according to the ideal-gas law the air density should be 29% less. As the engine power required to overcome air resistance increases with the cube of speed, top speed increases with the cube root of the reduction in air density, which is about 9%. This quite accurately matches the observations (at 80 °C the top speed is indeed 9% higher). At tby TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4

Similar problem here. I was trying to install GP4 on my relatively new laptop, which has no CD-rom port, so I had to download the original (unpatched) game from the internet (GP4 Central). I managed to install the game successfully, but when I hit play, nothing happens. What can be the problem?by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
QuoteSoutsen At least at Monza, Spa, Hockenheim and Sepang player's fuel consumption is only 180-966 higher. Dunno why the difference at Magny-Cours and Silverstone is higher than at Hungaroring though. Maybe this difference is connected to how the game is operating with the car acceleration. QuoteI tested several failure rates with the no chicane version of Silverstone 2001, but the results were pretty random. Definitely need more testing to hopefully understand the mechanics behind these values. Any new insights? I must say I've never understood the way these failure rates worked. I've always assumed higher values means higher failure rate, but that appears not to be thby TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
The default gear ratios are usually quit good. Otherwise, first get the final gear right and then adjust the other gears in such way that the ratios increase roughly exponentially. By the way, in those days most teams were running a slightly "tall" final gear, presumably to reduce the strain on the engine or because the engine produced more power at slightly lower revs.by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Thanks for the replies! I don't think there's anything wrong with my computer. The game runs fine for some time and then it suddenly slows down a lot, usually during the pit window or after a car retires from the race. First I thought my anti-virus program was to blame for this slowdown, but now I think the pitstops and car failures for some reason have become very memory-consuming.by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Hi all, I'm planning to upgrade my current outdated version of GPxPatch and I was wondering what the performance files should look like if there is car-dependent engine power and failure rates. Could someone please show me the basic outline of such a performance file?by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
I must say I'm a bit reluctant to downgrade to Windows 8 because I fear I might miss crucial Microsoft updates, which may become a security problem. But maybe it's a good idea, because I haven't yet discovered the benefits of Windows 10. By the way, setting the CPU parameter to 1 instead of 0 in GPxPatch seems to help. The game is much faster overall, but still it gets slow from tby TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4

Hi all, Unfortunately GP4 runs very slowly on my computer after the Windows 10 upgrade. At first it runs fine, but then it gets incredibly slow (>200 processor occupancy) periodically for quite some time. Initially I thought Windows Defender was the problem, but it happens even if I turn it off, so I don't know what is causing it. Has anyone had the same problem and know how to fix it?by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Tire wear may become another performance parameter, so it shouldn't be unfair. It of course needs some finetuning, but it can be used to create some (further) difference between a driver's qualifying and race performance. It also can give cars a long-term performance advantage in the race, which may be quite cool: tire-friendly drivers may get enough of a performance advantage to finallby TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Is it possible to have driver-dependent tire wear (cc shuffler) values in the performance files? That would be quite cool.by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Very interesting post! I was looking for parameters that make the CCs keep their distance to each other in corners. In slow corners the car behind will lift for a while and therefore lose contact with the first car. Reducing the slipstream effect will then reduce the probability for the CCs to overtake each other on start/stop circuits. For more 'flowing' circuits the CCs can followby TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
I probably corrupted the exe. The game runs fine and the races are more realistic than ever before. Thanks!by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
No, I forgot... One question: how can I save the changes in my GP4 exe? The game doesn't recognize the edited exe on my computer.by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
You're great SDI! But is it normal that these offsets only store zeros in my exe? They seem to be in a sea of zeros.by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Wow, that sounds difficult. Thanks for helping! Yes, these few offsets seem most promising to me.by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Ok, even after subtracting hexadecimal 400000? Is there a straightforward way to find the right offsets in GP4? Or is it just a matter of trial and error?by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Thanks! I tried to find the right offsets, by subtracting hexadecimal 400000 from the original offsets. These are the values in my exe: 013D78 (unchanged) 60 00 (Grip as AI?) 552EE4 --> 152EE4: 00 00 (Slipstream_384) 552EE6 --> 152EE6: FF DD (Slipstream_256) 552EEA --> 152EEA: 86 00 (Slipstream_512) 552F78 --> 152F78: 0F 8D 06 FF (Blocking amount) 42BCA6 --> 02BCA6by TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
Hi everyone, Some time ago I e-mailed Belini if he knew how to cure the unrealistic slipstream effect in GP4. He gave me a lot of potentially useful data relating to the slipstream effect, AI blocking behavior and many more. The changes are made through the exe by using a hex editor. Unfortunately, the entries below don't seem to match the entries in my hex editor. I'd like to know wby TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4

In order to create some more realistic (2000s-style) races I decided to test some variables in the magic data. Overtaking is too easy and it usually leads to a few odd-looking collisions of the CCs during the race, so it's rewarding to find a way to reduce the number of overtakes in the race. The other thing is that it would be nice to see the track improve over the session (which can possibby TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4

Am I the only one who thinks that GP4 is more suited for the "modern" F1? The lack of a dirty-air effect mimics DRS and the pitstop strategies are mainly driven by tyre wear. Yesterday, I watched a post-2009-style race in Indianapolis. Tyre wear was the same as in the original game, but fuel and fuel consumption were vastly reduced (to 1/40 of the original value) in order to mimic thby TheFueleffect - Grand Prix 4
