...but im not in Neutral, im hurtling down the straight changing up the gears happily at 22,000rpm, which no F1 car can reach in terms of rev range.

I actually said to myself how long til Ellis has slagged nK off and what happened once you got back, a post back slagging it off.

BOLLOCKS :D Complete BOLLOCKS :D I have always said the graphics and physics engine are extremely strong (altho may be a bit exagerated on the tyre model), it is the menu and interface and bugs that need work in netkar and some additional conetent for those not into low range single seaters

If rFactor has been approached by so many companies why has it not got any real cars ...

Because ISI have been there done that and the idea behind rFactor was to find more teams like simbin which they can licnese out the engine to, which they have actually achived :) You dont have ANY idea what companies have approached ISI and ISI related companies and for what reasons so you can continue to make such comments of "why this" and "why that", but your so underinformed its not even funny :)

I'm not sure if theres anything wrong with the car reving to 22 000.

theres something extremely wrong with that. The BMW site states over 19,000 RPM, and the rev counters on FOM coverage are only around 20,000 max, and no team has reported breaking 21,000 yet afaik :)

the fact is, the LFS car shifts at 22,000 RPM. The real one shifts at around 19,000 RPM

Peak HP for the F1 in LFS is 720 @ 19000 rpm. So revving to 22,000 isnt actually helping you.

Dont turn this into an rFactor vs lfs thread. This is about LFS so you guys can take your crap elsewhere.

The LX6 and RAC are good fun to drive now. Although overall i cant say im overly impressed with this patch.

Nobody mentioned rF until Kieran did :) My thoughts were simply on this patch, and like you, overall i was not massivly impressed by the patch. After such a long gap in development time it was a bit less than i expected.

Reving it that high has no advantage, you have no idea what the red line is on an F1 car. None of us do. In real life you'd probaly blow the thing up but until engine damage is implemented properly then you can shift at 22, 000 if you like but you aint going any quicker.

Yeah we do. All it takes is to actually watch the F1 coverage, watch the rev counter, or listen to any driver talking in the correct context.

F1 cars also run rev limiters so you CANT reach 22,000 RPM...

Keiran...come on...No F1 engine can reach 22,000 rpm.

They don't rev to 22 000rpm because there is no need for them to rev that hard. Watching TV coverage only shows you the car shifting at the optimum revs which is around 19 000, and is around that in LFS. The only difference is in LFS you don't have to worry about blowing your engine up. I stick by the fact we don't know where the red line is on an F1 engine.

But we do, its around 19 to 20k RPM as shown by Cosworth and revealed by Mercedes.

Cosworth hit over 22,000rpm in the winter testing, though they've not used it in any racing sessions or simulations yet.

I'm a bit bored of these arguments to be honest. You know exactly before the patch/sim arrives who's going to say what. Not just LFS, but I also knew who would complain about nK, rF, and I know who will gladly pick out the problems with iRacing.com and anything before.

It's all the same drivel brought up time after time, nothing new. I've been guilty of it myself, but I like to think I'm pretty neutral, and take each to their own, something I'm pretty sure the majority of the posters in this thread haven't done, simply comparing it to their own personal favourites. None of the above mentioned are great simulations. Not even close. They all have huge glaring flaws.

As for the patch, I've not tested it personally, as I've no FFB on my wheel atm, but I've seen Kirky's video, and it looks the part. The sound is good in the low ranges (TC especially), and maybe up high (a touch too high in my opinion). The handling looks the part too. No idea about the rest of the patch, but I've got it installed ready.

Another video (30mb, shows quite alot tho)

Looks good in some (well, quite alot) of places, but then it goes happy drifting again which is worrying.

Is there a TC override button?

The servers with BF1 only are nothing short of chaotic. When you do get a clean race going in them it is really good fun tho. Driving around south city in the BF1 is an absolute blast.

I've had a quick go in some of the other cars, one thing that disappointed me is that the XRR is still off the pace of the other cars in its class.

Its a definate improvement on the previous version, and lets not forget LFS is still an alpha release and so there should be more improvements to come before they reach the beta and full releases.

You can set it to different levels too, not just on/off.

Just tried the new patch myself.

I've gotta admit, the basic handling does feel quite realistic in the way the car moves around and generally handles. In fact, I do generally believe Live for Speed is right up there when it comes to suspension physics (especially at representing them graphically), and the other models needed for a sim, but it doesn't communicate back to the driver very well. It feels very much like rFactor in the way it feels like there is an invisible layer between the tyres and the tarmac which is diluting the feel.

At the moment, it'll probably still keep a slot on my hard disk, and I wouldn't turn down some fun races either, especially at the rally cross tracks, but probably only in the more road cars if you see what I mean. Given just a little bit of feel through the force feedback like with netKar and it would move leaps and bounds. Given the level of feel Papy sims have and I'm sure with a few other things sorted (we know this is release 2/3 in alpha stage) it could be "the sim" in my opinion.

We should really do a lx6/RAC/FZ50 race as those cars are so much fun to drive now.

Here is a vid of half a lap of some good online racing before i managed to lose it. [rapidshare.de]

Does anyone know of any good setups for LFS?

i just want to get hold of some to be at least half competitive :p i'm being left for dead on the straights so any setups for the single seaters would be great, i can tweak the tyre pressures etc and ride height but its the ratio's that do me :(
